a quilter's palette complete

Welcome to finish it up Friday! Did you know that I started this link up party exactly 5 years ago today?!?!?! That's. so. crazy!!!! I'm so thankful for it, or who knows how many WIPs I'd have today. Accountability is a great thing! Thank you for sticking with me for that long!
I have another quilt finish today! This pattern is A Quilter's Palette, by the lovely Rita of Red Pepper Quilts. This was a fun quilt to make! I loved digging in the scrap bins and building the blocks one at a time. My friend Brianne and I swapped scraps for some of the blocks, which was very helpful!
I don't often use blue or purple in my quilts, but somehow I still have scraps of those colors. I like what they add to this quilt! It feels good to branch out once in awhile.
I did a simple stipple all over in Auriful 2600, which has to be the most perfect thread color ever. I love it because it blends in with everything and it works so well in my Juki.
These blocks are great for fussy cuts. The butterfly block is one of my favorite parts of the whole quilt.
For the backing I used a fabric I had set aside for making a washi dress. I couldn't see myself wearing this color, and I had JUST enough (within inches) to back the quilt. I figured it was meant to be! The binding is the same fabric that I used on my last quilt finish. (The print is Citrus by Another Point of View for Windham fabrics.)
The quilt measures about 48" x 62". This is scrap project #184! This finish brings my WIP list down to 9! I'm quite excited about that!
Speaking of washi dresses....I spent last Saturday sewing up my third dress using that pattern. The fabric is chambray dots in indigo by Robert Kaufman. It makes a lovely garment! I'm fairly certain that this one will get a lot of wear.

How about a giveaway today? If you leave a comment in this post or if you link up today (or both!), your name will be thrown into a virtual hat. I will pick 5 winners that will receive 5 of my PDF patterns of your choice. I'll pick winners on Monday! I know I say it all the time, but I really mean it. Thank you for joining me for finish it up Friday!

  2. OMGoodness! I love that quilt! How fun that you got to swap scraps with your friend. This would be a perfect pattern for a round robin with friends, I think. Question: how much sleep do you manage to get a day? Or you are a super fast quilter!!!

  3. I Love this Quilter's Palette pattern...so beautiful in rainbow colors! and those cute little bees in the same section as the butterfly...love it all!

  4. Love the Washi dress. The second time I made the dress, I also used the simpler neckline which made for a simpler project. The dotted fabric is adorable.

  5. I love the quilt!! I'll be adding that to my list of quilts I want to make.

  7. That Washi dress looks perfect. I'm so intimidated by garment sewing, but I feel like maybe I should just put my big girl pants on and jump in!

  8. One of these days I will join in on Finish It Up Friday! I don't have too many WIPs but enough that I could use the motivation. *sigh* When my kids are older I will have plenty of sewing time.

  9. I have bins of scraps and the quilt you have featured here would help make a slight dent in them - I just need to get it done! Meanwhile, I am working on my sweet tooth project (and collecting more scraps)......

  43. congratulations on sticking to a link up for five years. I have loved it as it has also motivated me to finish - something I am traditionally terrible at!. The quilt you have done has inspired me. I am going to pull out my scraps today and sort it into colours. It will be a lot darker but at least it will be another quilt for the orphanage I support. I have always been meaning to make a washi dress but never have. They look so comfy. Thanks for the opportunity to win . karen.schulz@paradise.net.nz

  163. I do like this. Very good selection of fabrics and tone. My only finish this week was to actually practice my FMQ skills. I started a class last week and decided I'd better sit down at the machine and just DO IT. I strip pieced some fabric (actually 2 pieces) and did a different design on each panel. I'll turn it into a pillow. I just hate letting any sewing time not produce a functional item.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I love the colors. I wish I had a bigger stash to pick from. I've only been quilting for 2 years and I suppose I'll just HAVE to bite the bullet and buy some more fabric...poor me!

  167. I think you buried the lead! I love that dress! I have never really been drawn to Washi dresses, maybe because they're often done in girlie fabrics. I love yours, and would wear it out! Great job!

  188. Thank you for being such an inspiration! I have only 3 WIP's now. I made myself not start any new projects when I counted and found there were 14 WIPs on my shelf! Now I think I need to sort through the scrap bin to make a palette quilt. I think with only 3 WIPs I can be allowed to start a new one since all I have to do that is new is prepare course materials for a Quilting Course I will be teaching! I feel like I earned the right! Hee Hee. Love your Finish it Up Friday's. The giveaways are great, too!
