Lynn Harris wrote a wonderful scrap quilt book called Every Last Piece. I was anxiously awaiting the release of her book, knowing that she loves scraps at least, if not more, than I do. She did a great job on her book...so many quilts (with tiny pieces) that I would like to make!
I'm still working my way through reading the book (I'm taking my time) but I've enjoyed it so far. Lynn shares how she sorts her scraps (always an interesting topic to me!) and the quilt gallery where she shares quilts she has made over the years is very inspiring!
I love Lynn's quilts because they are scrappy, of course, but they are also authentic and timeless. She does beautiful work!
Here are a few of my favorites:
This one has to be at the top of my list. I literally laughed out loud when I read the caption next to the quilt. Lynn admits that if she had read the directions for the quilt beforehand, she probably would have never started the quilt. I love that!
Every Last Piece is published by Interweave and is available on Amazon, of course! If you would like to win a copy of the book, please leave a comment on this post. In your comment, I would like to hear what is the smallest size of scrap you save! (You can see my answer here. Please don't judge! :) )
The giveaway is open to both international and US readers alike. Please, only one comment per person. I plan to pick a winner on Saturday!
I already own the book. (So you can choose another winner - not that I ever win mind you, which is why I already bought the book.)
ReplyDeleteI don't measure my scraps, but if I had to guess 1.5 inches square is probably my smallest (though I know that some of my spider web scraps are smaller...)
I don't like really small pieces so probably 2 inch squares.
ReplyDeleteI typically save anything at least 2 inches square unless it's for the string pile and then it can be 3/4 to 1 inch wide and I keep it
ReplyDeleteThe smallest is probably 1"x2" pieces, although if I'm honest I have never managed to use anything that small again!
ReplyDelete1 inch wide strips!
ReplyDeleteI seem to have many different sizes. I think the smallest are binding triangles. But that being said, I have used them in a quilt!
ReplyDeleteI try not to keep anything smaller than 2 inches square or a strip of 1.5 inches.
ReplyDeleteI have a few scraps that measure 1" square, but mostly I keep anything that is at least 1 1/2" square.
ReplyDeleteLove that Stardust quilt too! Smallest I've saved is 1"...but usually at least 2" (it depends how much I love that fabric :) )
ReplyDeleteI cut 2.5 and 2" squares and strips, and also save some strips for string quilts that are skinnier than that if I really love them. This book looks awesome! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteTwo inch squares is the smallest I'd save.
ReplyDeleteI keep no smaller than a 2 1/2" square or a 1 1/2" string. Even setting that limit keeps me overwhelmed! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThe smallest size square I keep is 2 inches but I also keep strips that are between 1 and 2 inches wide and at least 3 inches long for strippy projects.
ReplyDeleteThe smallest I keep are 1-1/2". Would love to win the book.

ReplyDeleteThe smallest I save is 1 1/2" squares which are in the process of a "leader/ender" quilt and the triangles you end up with after trimming your binding.
ReplyDeleteI save 1 inch squares and 3/4 inch strips. And I use them.
ReplyDeleteI have so many scraps! I usually do not save anything less then 2 inches unless it is a fabric I totally adore, then I would save it as long as it is at least 1.5 inches!
ReplyDeletecaribousmom (at) aol.com
I think my minimum would be about 1.5" square. I live in Italy, so not only do I buy fabric less often and pay more for shipping when I do, but I also have to pay import tax of 21% in euros when I receive it!! So every scrap is precious to me! Could definitely use this book!
ReplyDeleteI save 2 inch squares or thereabouts, sometimes even smaller. It's so HARD to throw away a perfectly fine piece of fabric. This book looks very interesting!
ReplyDelete2" is probably my smallest scrap. Thanks for the chance to win such a nice book
ReplyDeletejennifercreech7(at)yahoo.com
I tend to save everything - then I sort through and decide what to really keep and those are usually 1 1/2 inches square or larger -
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this book!
I have a hard time throwing out scraps since I can use pretty little bits for paper piecing and letting my son do crafts. I'm trying to let them go if there's really no possibility of my using them in the future. If they're a blender, a 2.5" square is worth keeping. A hard-to-coordinate novelty piece needs to be at least a fat quarter, or it gets donated.
ReplyDeleteIneed to set a limit lol - I like strings and pieced no smaller than 2 inches;
ReplyDeleteI used to save all scraps no matter how small, but recently have gone bigger. I'd say a three inch square or 1.5 inch strip. The book looks great.
ReplyDelete1 inch strips and 1 1/2 inch squares. I just can't throw those pretty little bits away! I would love to win this book!. Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm with most of the commentors, 2" is about my limit to size. I just can't deal with all of the unraveling that comes along with small scraps. I usually pause before the srap hits the garbage can.
ReplyDeleteI save about 1"x1" squares and bigger. Anything smaller and I would be swimming in tiny pieces of fabric!
ReplyDeleteMy limit for scraps is 2"x2", unless I really, really love it. Then I hoard all those little bitty pieces. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThe smallest scrap that I save are probably the 1 1/2" triangles that I get when I snip off corners.
Although lately I have been saving even smaller pieces and throwing them into a pillow to use as extra bedding for one of my dogs.
Have a wonderful day.
I save every single scrap no matter what size. Crazy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for highlighting the gorgeous quilts in this book! I save down to 1.5 squares!
ReplyDeleteMy smallest would be strips 1 1/4 that I use for rugs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! This book looks like it would be so helpful in reducing the stash! I save anything larger than a smidge.
ReplyDeleteI'll save strips 1" wide or bigger, but squares have to be at least 1-3/4. I didn't think about it until now, but I have a different criterion for squares than strips! Probably has to do with string piecing, which I LOVE.
ReplyDeleteTiming is everything. I just got back from a two week vacation. Before vacation I was pressed to finish a quilt for a UFO class and when I walked into my studio, fabric was all over the place. Way to messy to just start sewing so for the past two days I have been sorting scraps! I am making a pile of all scraps to donate to next years annual quilt getaway. Lots of strings are in the bag along with odd shaped pieces. I have been cutting scraps into squares with the smallest being 1.5 inches. But I think I might change that to 2 inch squares from now on. Especially since I have a stash of yardage to last a lifetime!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway - thanks so much for the giveaway!!
The smallest scraps I save are about 2' squares, although I am currently working on an Americana Quilt and am saving smaller odd shaped pieces, hoping to do something fantastic with them.
ReplyDeleteI have hard time throwing fabric away no matter the size so I had to resign/limit myself to 1 inch or bigger.
ReplyDeleteI *try* not to save anything smaller than 2/5" squares, but I sometimes find myself hoarding 1.5" squares of my favorite collections.
ReplyDeleteI have hundreds of 1.5" squares I bought as fabric samples from an online company that used to sell them, and started using them a few months ago in a quilt inspired by "You Can't Rush Art", which is fabulous. I have a few strips or corner triangles in that quilt that finish at a bit less than 1/2" on one side, so I guess I save anything bigger than 1" in both dimensions. Any smaller and the seams start to overlap!
ReplyDeleteTHe smallest scrap I keep is 5" square., but I also keep boxes of leftover strips that can be as narrow as 1"
ReplyDeleteI am still learning about what to keep and what to toss. I try and save about 2" square.
ReplyDeleteMy smallest scraps are about 1.5" square.
ReplyDeletemy smallest scrap I save is about 2 inches or so!!!
ReplyDeleteI usually save anything 2 inches wide or bigger, but lately I've been saving almost everything because I love the fabrics I've been working with so much!
ReplyDeleteI don't measure my smallest size but just guessing--1/2 inch maybe less. I do applique with my embroidery machine so even the smallest pieces can work. That's why my sewing room is a mess!! Looks like a great book, can't wait to see one in person. Thank you for a great giveaway. vkh6210 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteStrip pieces can be any width, but mainly the smallest width size I keep is two inches.
ReplyDeleteI took my small scraps and cut them all into 2 inch squares. I now have an entire picnic basket full of 2 inch squares :)
ReplyDeleteI don't measure my scraps, but have lots of 2 inch squares, and probably a few even smaller than that. I would love to win this book; I'm a follower of Lynn's blog and really like her work.
ReplyDeletePretty much safe to say that I don't throw anything away. Reading through your scrap post is like peeking in my window...but not nearly as organized. So...I NEED this book! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI keep everything that is 3/4" wide or larger. Granted, I've only been USING 1-1/2" or larger, but I can't seem to throw out anything that can be used!
ReplyDeleteMy smallest keeper scraps are 1" square. I actually find myself using a lot of those lately so it's a good thing I've kept them! This book looks wonderful and I'd love to win, but if I don't I'm off to Amazon to get a copy. Thanks for a chance!
ReplyDelete1.5 " square are my smallest although some of my strips are probably narrower
ReplyDeleteI save strips as small as 1" wide and usually squares as small as 1.5".
ReplyDeleteThe smallest I save is one inch square.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy using tiny pieces in my Free Style Cobblestone blocks etc....but oh my what a neat book.
ReplyDeleteI probably have used scraps that are 1.5 square...although I have saved some smaller ones.
ReplyDeleteI love this book...I currently have borrowed it from the library, but would love my own copy!
I don't keep anything smaller than 2" square. I can't deal with pieces smaller than that, but I admire those who do.
ReplyDeleteThe book looks awesome. I save so much of my scraps. Even the long stringy ones when I'm squaring up my fabric. They are great for wrapping gifts with Kraft paper, and I always get compliments.
ReplyDelete1.5" is my smaller scrap. Anything smaller is too hard to store.
ReplyDeleteThe book looks beautiful. I too love to save my scraps. But it has to be at least a 1" square. By the time you take into account the seam allowance, you gotta have something left to see.
ReplyDeleteDianne
The smallest I save are usually around 2" square. I just started quilting, so I don't have much fabric to save scraps from.
ReplyDeleteIf I can squeeze seam allowances out and still have fabric showing, I keep it. So anything over 1/2" square.
ReplyDeleteMy smallest is 2.5" squares or triangles. I cut any scraps into only these shapes since that's what I use the most. I use my Accuquilt Studio to cut them up quickly.
ReplyDeleteDepends on the fabric, but my daughter thinks I'm a little crazy for saving >2" pieces.
ReplyDeleteSmallest scrap I keep is anything at least 1" square... Who knows if I'll ever get to using them though!!!
ReplyDeleteGeneral answer - anything that could make a 1 inch square even if I have to squeeze a scant seam.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great book! I keep pretty much all scraps :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win! Generally I won't keep anything smaller than 2 inches square, or 1.5 inch strips. But if it's something I consider "my precious" I'll keep anything bigger than 1 inch square.
ReplyDeleteMy scraps are taking over. This looks like a great way to tackle them!
ReplyDeleteI blame you and your ticker tape quilts for me saving anything over 1/2" !!! :D
ReplyDeleteThis book is gorgeous, i love it.
I save scraps as small as 3/4 inch square. I hate to throw anything out!
ReplyDeleteMy smallest scraps are 3/4" square. Anything smaller than that is thrown out.
ReplyDeleteI save 1" pieces.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great book. I think 1.5 is smallest I keep, but it's hard throwing the smaller ones away.
ReplyDeleteProbably 1 1/2" HST.....
ReplyDelete1-1/2 by 2 in if I really love it. I have never made a quilt from scraps yet, but I want to
ReplyDeleteAbout 2" square but depends on the fabric. Knowing Lynn from our quilt guild retreats, I always think of her when I pitch tiny tiny scraps that she might save.
ReplyDeleteI try not to save anything less than 2 inches. but then I save my selvage which is less than 2 inches wide. So I save just about everything.
ReplyDeleteProbably 1x2? I'll save strips that are a bit narrower than 1" though.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so excited! I've had that picture of the lady of the lake quilt for ages but I couldn't remember where I found it or who made it. Hurrah!
I don't really have a limit for how small a fabric scrap I'll save... I cut my large scraps into 5", 3", and 2.5" squares, and some strips no wider than 2" (if I can get them). Whatever is left over after that, goes into a basket for making 'found fabric'.
ReplyDeletegreycatquilts@yahoo.com
The smallest scraps I've been saving lately are 1 1/2" squares. I've tried saving smaller in the past but never seem to get them used up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the peek into the book. The smallest I save is a 2" square. :)
ReplyDeleteMy smallest scraps are probaby 2 inches, a few one inch only because I dont ever know what to do with any smaller...maybe this book will give me new ideas!
ReplyDeleteI've been saving some pretty all bits:3/4" !😜
ReplyDelete1 inch strings and 1.5 inch scraps.
ReplyDeleteI save scraps that are bigger than an inch. Anything less and it all becomes clutter.
ReplyDeleteThat book looks great! The smallest scraps I save are 1 1/2" squares, but I've been tempted to save smaller ones but I don't know if I'd actually use them.
ReplyDeleteI save up to 1" strips but my squares start at 2". nridder@hurontel.on.ca
ReplyDeleteI know I'll never use a scrap that's small than 1" so everything samller I throw away.
ReplyDeleteWhat's a scrap? ;) I save everything.
ReplyDeleteI save any odd piece I can get at least a 1/2" piece of fabric showing--lotsa crumbs!
ReplyDeleteMy smallest scraps are 2-1/2", sometimes I'll save 2" strips.....
ReplyDeleteThree quarter inch strings, one and a half inch squares, 'bonus' triangles from 2" stitch and flip squares. I LOVE scrap quilts and feel so virtuous when I make a scrap quilt from the 'dross', whilst totally neglecting my stashed yardage! I am sure you know how that feels...
ReplyDeleteI tend to only save large scraps, so probably 5"x5". But i have a girlfriend who takes all my smaller pieces. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still learning so I save the bigger ones...3" square is the smallest. I'll do better eventually! ;)
ReplyDeleteEver since reading Sunday Morning Quilts I save super small scraps - like 1x1 is not even too small - nor strips less than that! It's a sickness I tell you! o:) Thanks so much for the chance to win! And that girlfriend that Becky just mentioned - that's me - LOL!
ReplyDelete1.5" squares are the smallest pieces I save!
ReplyDeletetstanulis@verizon.net
I have just started to organize my scraps... right now the smallest I'm saving is 2" squares and strips. but its really hard to toss the pretty little scraps!
ReplyDeleteMy smallest squares are 2". My smallest strips are 1 1/2". I would be able to put this book to good use!
ReplyDeleteI keep 2 inch squares but I would keep smaller if I knew I could use them. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteIf I love the fabric I will save even 1" pieces. So no judgment here!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a consistent rule, but usually if it's an inch or bigger I save it.n
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a tiny scrap you save! I think I limit myself to 3" squares or 2" strips. I don't have a lot of space, so I have to toss quite a bit. I love this book! Just put it on my Amazon Wish List!
ReplyDeleteI have so many scraps...I just can't throw any of the fabric away...I would love to have this book to put a dent in those...and I always love tips on how to cut/store/save fabric...
ReplyDeleteThank you for offering this to us...
I save it all... all the tiniest pieces (even the dust and threads) go into the bag earmarked to be the innards of a floor pillow. (I've made 2 already.) The bigger ones (anything that can sustain 2 seam allowances) goes into the scrap box. I use lots of pieces out of it for paper piecing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance.
Hugs
I have had to make a rule to toss anything that is smaller than 2.5x 2.5 inches. Anything smaller I just don't ever use. I will keep strips that are 1 inch or wider though.
ReplyDeleteOf fabrics that I adore, 3/4 of an inch believe it or not. That gives me a 1/4" seem plus a little taste. Would love the book and sounds like it was made for me!!!
ReplyDeleteI save insanely small pieces of fabric 1x1 to 1.5x1.5 probably the smallest size, so am also always on the hunt for ideas on how to use them up!!
ReplyDeleteI save anything 1" x 1" minimum.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. I haven't thrown anything away yet. :(
ReplyDelete(That's just a small exaggeration)
2 inches square is typically the smallest I keep.
ReplyDeleteThose little stars!! I love them! I'm pretty new to saving and using scraps, so I just save anything that is the size of my thumb or bigger. I figure I'll learn if I should go bigger or smaller as I make more with them.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the fabric. Probably 3x3cm of very nice fabric and 5x5cm of "normal nice" fabric.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great book!
Greetings from Germany.
A 1 1/2" square. Looks like a great book.
ReplyDeleteI love quilt books! They are so inspiring! I keep scraps that are really small. I really haven't measured, but I have sewn with scraps that are 1 1/2 inch square. I like to use wonder under to applique and so you can keep the smallest scraps for that!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking book! I love working with scraps.:) I will save down to about an inch square sometimes maybe a 3/4" string. It's crazy, but you never know when they will fit somewhere!
ReplyDeleteI love scrap quilts my smallest piece is about 1.5 inches although I have used pieces smaller than that - would love to win.
ReplyDeleteI've been known to keep strips as small as 3/4 inch wide.
ReplyDeleteMy smallest pieces are probably around 2", but I only save ones that small if they have a good fussy-cuttable print on them. :}
ReplyDeleteI save one inch pieces, and minimum 3/4" strings. This book looks lovely. When you have little pieces, I think your expectations have to be modified accordingly, because these quilts do take longer to complete. I'd love to see this book :)
ReplyDeleteMy smallest piece is 3/4". A 1/4" is seen when sewng 1/4" seams.
ReplyDeleteMy smallest piece is 3/4". A 1/4" is seen when sewng 1/4" seams.
ReplyDeleteI've only recently started keeping tiny scraps due to some of the fun things you make! Most of my pieces are 1" or bigger.
ReplyDeleteas of today I save 1 1/2" but that's subject to change :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat book! It's inspiring to see all those little pieces come together. I save pieces that are 6"x6" or larger, as I am not that good at organizing much smaller pieces. They tend to get all mixed up!
ReplyDeleteI've made a small wall hanging with 1" squares that is now in Ecuador, and I use 3/4" strings in my string blocks.
ReplyDeleteI save strings more than one inch.
ReplyDeleteI save slivers. the tiniest pieces that other people throw away. Unless there is more fray than fabric, I don't keep those. I string piece them, or I collage them. Lemme at your rubbish bins!!
ReplyDeleteI save 1"×1". I learned from you to love every little piece! Thanks for the great giveaway, I would love to win the book!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this! The smallest I keep is probably 2x2.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, you are to blame, after reading your blog for many years, I save it all. I even save those little clippings from when you join triangles together, cause they look pretty in a jar. I think I need help, or at least this book!
ReplyDeleteOmg! I save everything! You have created a monster!! Your Sunday Morning Quilts opened up a new world for me and if it is too small I use it to stuff pet beds,
ReplyDeleteThanks to you I now save very small scraps. If I'm really in love with the fabric I'll save even a 1/4" bit to glue onto something but for sewing I'd probably say I save down to 1" pieces.
ReplyDeleteMy scraps aren't organized yet - that is on my to-do soon list, so at the moment I save just about all scraps except skinny strips and tiny snippets. If it is a square it will be saved.
ReplyDeleteIf I can get a 1 1/2 inch square out of the scrap, I keep it. This book is perfect for me. I love scrap quilts and am lucky enough to have friends who supply me. I find it is not intimidating to cut up scraps. I have a much harder time cutting up yardage!! Thank you for the chance to win the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'm still new to quilting and I haven't yet saved a piece smaller than two and a half inches square. Not very brave, but I'm also pretty tight on space!
ReplyDeleteI save anything bigger than 1,5 inches , as I do a lot of paper piecing. I use it all! Fabric is expensive at 17-25 euros per meter.
ReplyDeleteLove to work with the book to use more of those scraps!!!
Esther
esthersipatchandquilt at yahoo dot com
I have to be able to get a one and a half inch square from it to save a scrap. Unless it's fabric that would work in my landscape quilts, then I save it all!
ReplyDeleteI have tons of scraps so this book would be a big help to my "overcrowding". The smallest scrap is probably a 1" triangle. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteoh my -- this looks like a book that I MUST have. Thanks for sharing and giving us the opportunity to win a copy.
ReplyDeleteIf it's an inch in any direction, I'll save it! I need help.
ReplyDeleteI like my scraps to be at least 1.5 inches wide.
ReplyDeleteI usually save down to 1" pieces. Waste not, want not!
ReplyDeleteRight now the smallest piece of scrap fabric I save is about 2" square. I hope to excise this crazy obsession and to one day declare that I only save scrap 5" square pieces of fabric. One day I will get to that place :)
ReplyDeleteI try to keep myself to 1 inch strips or squares. I pass the itty bitty scraps to some quilty friends with more patience than I have lol! Looks like a beautiful book.
ReplyDeleteI save everything. I statted sewing gvery shortly before your color jar scrap along. So I kept every size bigger then 1in. I haven't used most of them I might need to rethink my process till I can really use them more.
ReplyDeleteI save scraps in random sizes, the smallest being 1" x 6" strips.
ReplyDeleteThe smallest I save is a 2 inch square unless it's a favorite piece and then I will save every bit
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm going to buck the trend here. I think the smallest I tend to save is a charm square size and I give the rest away to my son's daycare! I still love making things from small bits, but I like to cut them - if i have lots of small scraps I can never find any that look good together!
ReplyDeleteThe smallest piece I save is 1 1/2" squares.
ReplyDeleteOMG....checking back to see how small your scraps are I have discovered that some of mine are smaller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a cute daisy 1/2" square (that I have pinned to a larger scrap)that will someday (???) go onto a confetti quilt.
ReplyDeleteIn my sorted scraps its 1 1/2" but I make crumb blocks with nearly any size. I currently have over 220 8" crumb blocks waiting for me to use in charity quilts. I will choose two different fabrics and add 2 1/2" strips to border my crumb blocks. I then alternate these blocks so I don't require sashing. I can make any size quilts that I have need for and its very nice when I get them done.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a phenomenal book. The smallest scrap size I save is about 1.5" square, just big enough for a 3/4 hexagon and some therapeutic EPP!
ReplyDeleteI save even the smallest sliver. Fabric is expensive, so I can't bring myself to throw it away. I need a better storage system, so maybe I would use them more. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteThe book looks great - the smallest scraps I save are about an inch I would say.
ReplyDeleteMy smallest are cut to finish at 1 by 2 inches. I just need to use them now. I spent a whole week a yr or so back just cutting up my scraps. But how the bin is full again!
ReplyDelete1.5" squares, someday I'd like to make a traditional postage stamp quilt with my modern fabric scraps...someday.
ReplyDeleteTrina and I were just looking at this at B & N the other night--it's a great book!
ReplyDeleteThe smallest piece I ever used was the last square inch of one of my favourite fabrics in a paper pieced block. I was making three baby quilts for my triplet great nieces, each different, so I thought it was a great way to use that last scrap. I have a large and uncontrollable scrap collection (I think it's breeding...) and this book would help me tame it!
ReplyDeleteI am very bad at throwing tiny piece of fabric and sometime I actually use piece smaller than one inch for paper piecing or applique. So some are tiny. Japanese say don't throw away if the fabric can wrap three beans.
ReplyDeleteThe smallest pieces of quilting cotton are probably 1/2".....but these are reserved for fabric postcards where I use them with WonderUnder to "paint" fabric pictures on a 4"x6" canvas. I've made 2 quilts so far so I only have scraps from them. I haven't needed to store large quantities of scraps....yet!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you use scraps in all kinds of projects. great way to use what you have!
1 inch square. You can do a lot with 1 inch. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks to you I now have a showebox of micro pieces wistfully labeled 'ticker tape'. The more expensive fabric becomes, the harder those tiny scraps are to part with.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that Stardust quilt, wouldn't you know!
I keep 1 inch and up, sorta sorted by size. Plus I save selveges and thin strips for tomato ties. We have a lifetime supply tomato ties.
ReplyDelete1 1/4 inch is pretty small for me
ReplyDeleteI used to sort by size but am switching to color although I'm actually trying to use not save ....
Would love to win thanks for the chance!!
1 and a half inch is the smallest scrap I save. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteMy smallest scraps are around 1 inch - for raw edge collage. A little larger for improv piecing.
ReplyDelete1.5 inch triangles, waste not want not!
ReplyDeleteI save all strips and down to 2 inch squares. Love this book!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fun book! I don't save small scraps, but only because I think that would push my hubby over the edge. I just don't have the storage space/organization right now. So only about 5" for me currently.
ReplyDeleteI just recently went through my old stash of fabric, and found LOTS of scraps there. First thought was what-on-earth-was-I-thinking-to-save-this, when I saw some scraps about 2x1 cm in size (that would be less than 1x0,5 in inches...), and still did not throw that out!
ReplyDeleteThe smallest I'll save is a 1-1/2 inch square, though I do have some 3/4-inch strings! They're tiny, but I'm always glad to have them.
ReplyDelete1" square and I use them!
ReplyDeleteI can't bear to throw away ANY piece of fabric, no matter how small. I use the littlest scraps to make greeting cards (tutes on my blog). It's never too small :-)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a lovely and inspiring book! My size: 3/4" strings, and 1.5" squares. Smaller than that, good bye! annesimonot@sasktel.net
ReplyDeleteI would say the smallest scrap I keep would be about 1" square. I sometimes use those really small pieces in paper piecing.
ReplyDeleteSusan
skpitt@aol.com
I save the skinniest strips (~3/4 ") for some paper pieced projects
ReplyDeleteThis book looks amazing! I would love to win it and add it to my collection. Crossing my fingers!
ReplyDeleteI adore scraps! I can't bear to throw anything usable away... if its the size of a postage stamp or larger, I keep it. I throw all my scraps in a big plastic tub. I love love love that they can be used to make another project rather than going to landfill. Anything under 1" square gets put aside for a friend who is a Kindergarten assistant for the kids cut and paste projects. This books looks very inspiring - thanks for sharing and the giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteI save any scrap with seam allowances plus a little.
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful book- would love to own and be inspired by this book! the smallest scrap that i'll save is about 1½".
ReplyDeleteI generally don't keep anything smaller than 2" square. However, if I win this book I might change my mind on that!
ReplyDelete1x1 is the smallest I've saved but I haven't used them yet. :)
ReplyDeleteI save every last piece of fabric. This book was written for me. Hopefully I can win it.
ReplyDeleteI generally keep everything about 1 1/2 inches or bigger. However, one of my favourite scraps are the half square triangles left from trimming flying geese. I keep these too. Would love this book.
ReplyDeleteMost of my scraps are about 2". I'm starting to think I need to start saving the smaller piece too though! Thanks for a chance to win this book!
ReplyDeleteI've saved a picture of the cover built since I first saw it on line. I can't wait to make it! Thanks for chance.
ReplyDeleteI will keep strips that are about 7/8inch wide. squares would have to be about 1 1/2 for me to bother with.
ReplyDeleteI typically don't go under 1-1/2", but sometimes will cut 1-1/4" for special projects. Scraps are the best! Each a gem.
ReplyDeleteI used to save anything 1" or larger. Now-------I save pieces that are at least 2 1/2", or 1 1/2" strips. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteThe bin of crumbs has the smallest bits at 1 to 1.5 inches square. This sits next to a bin of bigger chunks, next to the bin of strings. The variety is fun to play with! Thanks for the opportunity to win a wonderful book!
ReplyDeleteAnother kindred spirit! I love scraps and this book is definitely on my wish list! There's nothing like a bit of scrap inspiration.

I save everything over 3/4". I cut squares as small as 1-1/2" and anything between 3/4 and 1-1/2" no matter the shape gets thrown in a "bits and pieces" bin.
ReplyDeleteProbably 1X2" size but I'm not sure why....it's just hard for me to throw away fabric!
ReplyDeleteAbout a year ago I discover Bonnie Hunter and since then have become obsessed with scraps and how to use them all. This book would be very inspiring as Im always looking for more ways to use my scraps.

The smallest pieces I save are around 1.5" x4" or so. I also save strings that are 0.75"+ in width.
ReplyDeleteI used to make mini quilts that used very small pieces so tiny scraps were hoarded. I haven't made a mini quilt in a while so I only save scraps larger than 1 1/2".
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat Book! 2 inch square is the smallest I keep. It is a struggle to throw things out-- know what I mean?!
ReplyDeleteThere are several quilts in this book that appeal to me. I like finding new uses for the little scraps. I keep two inch squares and odd shaped pieces for strings.
