goodbye summer

Welcome to finish it up Friday!

This was the last week of summer vacation for us, so I took most of the week off and spent it with my kiddos. We spent some time with their cousins and then we spent some time preparing for school. It included a 24 hour cleaning stint (their room was a disaster area!!) so cleaning that was a HUGE accomplishment. I'm counting it not only as my main finish for the week, but also a personal victory that all 4 of us lived through it and still love each other. Ha!
I did just a little bit of piecing this week, here and there. I pulled out my solids scrap bin and just started sewing.
I love working with solids. I love working improvisationally. I LOVE playing with color.
This was/is all about enjoying the process. I truly have no idea how it is going to end up, but I'm fine with that.
I DO know that I am not going to run out of scraps any time soon!

It seems like it was just last week when I was asking if we should continue finish it up Friday throughout the summer, and here it is, the end already! I'm so glad that we continued on....it was very helpful and productive! Thanks for the accountability!

Now it's YOUR turn. Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks, as always, for joining me for finish it up Friday!

Oh! And thank you for all your sweet comments on my EPP star quilt from last week. Each and every one is much appreciated! xoxo

it can't be true! summer cannot be over yet!
I do like your improv blocks and all the color. I have never made anything with all solids, I think I need to. Have a great weekend.

It's about to be spring here: & the wind is howling, rain pelting no chance of blossoms on tbe trees. I do envy you. Also your beautiful work & last week's star quilt was divine.
Enjoy the warmer weather

Oof house keeping. That's a love/hate relationship right there. It always feels amazing to have it done but my son hates when we clean out his room and reorganize. It's like we're threatening his personal space when all we're doing it just getting things put away and dusting! Those look great! Sounds like a fun process to just go and sew!

Interesting project!

Just a little bit of piecing? That's a lot of piecing! Good for you for doing something just to enjoy the process! It's so therapeutic!

Love the blocks. Well done on surviving the great clean up. I've only got the one daughter and she causes enough mess xx

Love these! They are so simple yet so great. Love that you have a solids bin. I am going to do that, too!

I finished my first Scrap Happy Purse. It won't be my last! I'm so please with how it turned out.

Not a thing finished this week. Lots of starts - more fabric cutting - and slow progress on several things, but not much to show for my efforts. I need to be more diligent about keeping after one thing. But heck. It's always "SQUIRREL!"

Thank you for continuing Finish It Up Friday throughout the summer. I love seeing what everyone has accomplished each week. Your solid improv piecing is quite inspiring. I have been working on a lot of solids projects lately and am looking forward to amassing enough scraps to have a similar future play day!

Amandajean, what you said about cleaning your children's room being one of your finishes is funny but really - THAT is a finish!
Loving those blocks you are playing with. You could just use them like that on a wall as art!

I'm not a fan of solids, but your blocks could easily convince me to make a quilt out of them. It's shaping up beautifully, Amanda.

Wow, I love your colourful blocks - and your gorgeous colourful chair too! You sure have some great scraps, my finish this week is a scrap quilt too, but none of the fabrics go together like this - they make my heart sing :)

I've always sorted my scraps by color. I like the idea of having a separate bin for just solids.

Love those blocks! Wish the kids a good school year for me. We will have to get together sometime. You and me for a sewing day, and maybe a fire in our fire pit at some point with everybody before the weather gets too cool.

I have some solid scraps I was going to give away but now I'm not so sure...

You have a beautiful finish! I also love your ironing board cover. I have been wanting to cover a board to put on the top of mine for pressing large quilts. Maybe some day. I prefer to use 100% cotton canvas to press on so I bought some last week. Now I have yet another project (ha ha).
