Welcome to finish it up Friday!
This was the last week of summer vacation for us, so I took most of the week off and spent it with my kiddos. We spent some time with their cousins and then we spent some time preparing for school. It included a 24 hour cleaning stint (their room was a disaster area!!) so cleaning that was a HUGE accomplishment. I'm counting it not only as my main finish for the week, but also a personal victory that all 4 of us lived through it and still love each other. Ha!
I did just a little bit of piecing this week, here and there. I pulled out my solids scrap bin and just started sewing.
I love working with solids. I love working improvisationally. I LOVE playing with color.
This was/is all about enjoying the process. I truly have no idea how it is going to end up, but I'm fine with that.
I DO know that I am not going to run out of scraps any time soon!
It seems like it was just last week when I was asking if we should continue finish it up Friday throughout the summer, and here it is, the end already! I'm so glad that we continued on....it was very helpful and productive! Thanks for the accountability!
Now it's YOUR turn. Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks, as always, for joining me for finish it up Friday!
Oh! And thank you for all your sweet comments on my EPP star quilt from last week. Each and every one is much appreciated! xoxo
it can't be true! summer cannot be over yet!
ReplyDeleteI do like your improv blocks and all the color. I have never made anything with all solids, I think I need to. Have a great weekend.
Your improv blocks are wonderful! As always, your colors are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIt's about to be spring here: & the wind is howling, rain pelting no chance of blossoms on tbe trees. I do envy you. Also your beautiful work & last week's star quilt was divine.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the warmer weather
:0)
Lovely blocks!
ReplyDeleteOof house keeping. That's a love/hate relationship right there. It always feels amazing to have it done but my son hates when we clean out his room and reorganize. It's like we're threatening his personal space when all we're doing it just getting things put away and dusting! Those look great! Sounds like a fun process to just go and sew!
ReplyDeleteInteresting project!
ReplyDeleteJust a little bit of piecing? That's a lot of piecing! Good for you for doing something just to enjoy the process! It's so therapeutic!
ReplyDeleteLove the blocks. Well done on surviving the great clean up. I've only got the one daughter and she causes enough mess xx
ReplyDeleteLove these! They are so simple yet so great. Love that you have a solids bin. I am going to do that, too!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for Finish it Up Friday!!
ReplyDeleteThose solid scraps may have made my heart beat just a little bit faster. :)
ReplyDeleteYour improv blocks are so cheery! They look so cool up on your design wall! :)
ReplyDeleteSandy Reeves.I absolutely love the solids.I literally do not have any but will by the end of next week.that is probably what are the missing pieces in some of my puzzles.
ReplyDeleteI finished my first Scrap Happy Purse. It won't be my last! I'm so please with how it turned out.
ReplyDeleteNot a thing finished this week. Lots of starts - more fabric cutting - and slow progress on several things, but not much to show for my efforts. I need to be more diligent about keeping after one thing. But heck. It's always "SQUIRREL!"
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of this!! I love bold solids.
ReplyDeleteThank you for continuing Finish It Up Friday throughout the summer. I love seeing what everyone has accomplished each week. Your solid improv piecing is quite inspiring. I have been working on a lot of solids projects lately and am looking forward to amassing enough scraps to have a similar future play day!
ReplyDeleteAmandajean, what you said about cleaning your children's room being one of your finishes is funny but really - THAT is a finish!
ReplyDeleteLoving those blocks you are playing with. You could just use them like that on a wall as art!
Ha ha! awesome finish!!! love what you are doing with your solid scraps. Thanks for hosting Finish up Friday, always a pleasure to stop by on fridays... and other days too.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of solids, but your blocks could easily convince me to make a quilt out of them. It's shaping up beautifully, Amanda.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving those blocks!!
ReplyDeleteoh this is going to be fun! so modern and cool!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love your colourful blocks - and your gorgeous colourful chair too! You sure have some great scraps, my finish this week is a scrap quilt too, but none of the fabrics go together like this - they make my heart sing :)

ReplyDeleteOoooooh, love that first photo - the chair and pillow look great with your blocks!!
ReplyDeleteI've always sorted my scraps by color. I like the idea of having a separate bin for just solids.
ReplyDeleteHope the kids have a great and successful school year! Love your colorful improv blocks!
ReplyDeleteIt shows that you're having fun ~ it's already so lively!
ReplyDeleteI so love what you have done with those solids. Really inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThese blocks look like an art installation at a gallery. Thanks for another one of your inspiring ideas!
ReplyDeleteLove the improv blocks! I want to try that. You're an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteoooh i love working with solids too...your blocks are sooo gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThose are mighty fine solid blocks you've put together. I'm so enjoying Finish it up Friday-Have found loads of new blogs to subscribe to and read... need more hours in the day or less sleep !~!
ReplyDeleteHappy clean room, my workspace is coming into that need very soon-sorting out my solids seems to be a good change... thanks.
the scraps are looking lovely and will make a great quilt. Hoping to have some late summer weather here before the autumn sets in
ReplyDeleteLove those blocks! Wish the kids a good school year for me. We will have to get together sometime. You and me for a sewing day, and maybe a fire in our fire pit at some point with everybody before the weather gets too cool.
ReplyDeleteI have some solid scraps I was going to give away but now I'm not so sure...
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful finish! I also love your ironing board cover. I have been wanting to cover a board to put on the top of mine for pressing large quilts. Maybe some day. I prefer to use 100% cotton canvas to press on so I bought some last week. Now I have yet another project (ha ha).
