My daughter needs a pencil case for school and we decided that I should sew one up for her. I should probably mention that she LOVES purple. As if it weren't obvious. (Lucky me.)
This was my first attempt. I finished it late last night and was a
little disappointed. It's a make up bag, not a pencil pouch, for crying out loud. She insisted that it was great, but I just couldn't stop there. I'm a bit of a perfectionist.
I attempted another one this afternoon. And, hey! It actually looks like a pencil pouch! Now she has two purple pouches to fill with who knows what. She's pleased as punch! I love that she appreciates hand made things so much. It's wonderful.
These are made from scraps, so I'm counting them as #8 and #9 for my 101 scrap project challenge. Woo-hoo! I'm hopeful that I'll be able to whip up a few more projects before the weekend is through.

I've been drawing up a new pattern. Hope to get it sewn together tomorrow and finish another little project, too.
ReplyDeleteOf course I'm sewing....just put the finishing touches on a small piece of my nuno felted wool...happy, happy, happy....beads, embroidery, and felted wool....does it get any better than that?? Oh, ya.....a child who loves her 2 purple pouches!!

ReplyDeleteI'm making a quilt or a wall hanging I call color study of all different shades of orange, purple, and red. I wanted to challenge myself on what colors "go." It's kind of a mess but I'm organising it by value light to dark. I don't really know what I think of it, but as a beginner quilter I can feel my skills improving which is what it's really about when I get down to it.

ReplyDeleteThe pouches are simply perfect! I teach and some of my students would fill the first one with all their bits and pieces, no problem! I am playing with a Polaroid project pattern this afternoon!
ReplyDeleteGreat bags! Purple can be very happy, and it won't show as much dirt as a lighter color. I'm working on doll quilts for a guild charity project and cutting a "dark" volume quilt using Sunday Morning Quilts. Can't wait to start it!

Great back to school set of pouches. You did make an intentional set for your daughter correct ;-}. You did a great job and that they both contain the same scraps it does look like you planned it.

ReplyDeleteI love the scrappy pouches they are a lot of fun. I also like to set ambitious goals. Last year I wanted to make 1 quilt a week so set a goal to make 52 (lap or baby size quilts) in one year and did it. The goal for 101 scrap projects are fantastic. I may have to make a more serious goal of my own.
ReplyDeleteLove the bags. My husband's favorite color is purple so I am ready to quilt purple quilt #2 for him. Those bags are so cute. I am whipping up some bags for Christmas presents and love your patchwork ideas.

I'm making a quilt using The Proverbial Quilt pattern by Denyse Schmidt. I'm using some lines from one of my all time favourite books; it's going to be a lovely quilt just for me! It's been so much fun making the letters in colours that match the spirit of the text I'm using, and it's using lots of my vintage scraps that I love so much too!

ReplyDeleteNo labour day here in England (we had a bank holiday last weekend). I spent the weekend shoving a king-sized quilt in my 6" machine and am now licking my wounds. Now that it's done I realize I could have QAYG it, but I'm going to buy a machine today with an 11" today, instead!

I finally finished all my nine-patches (not one-a-day, but in spurts) and need to cut the sashing. It will be nice to see this quilt come together. Last night I finished the top of a simple lap-size baby quilt for a teacher who's expecting later this year - now for the backing ...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I've been working at quilting a quilt and piecing another top. I've been able to get a lot done, yay! But the weather has been very lovely and it's been hard to keep my head down working, lol!
ReplyDeleteThe pouches are so cute! I'm not sewing this weekend but I just finished reading your book, Sunday Morning Quilts and got inspired to sort my fabric and "clean" my sewing room. It could have been on a hoarder's show it was so bad! Thank you for the inspiration and concrete advice for organizing my fabrics.
