I also put signed copies of the book on sale for $19.95. (Shipping is additional.) This sale will be good for two weeks. It would make a great Christmas gift for you or someone else!
Now, for the question portion of this post. I've got my drano quilt basted. But how on earth should I quilt it? I'm totally stumped. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Here's a peek at the back. (LOVE!!!)
One last little tidbit for today....this is a conversation that happened in our house last night.
my 9 year old: "why do we have to go to school tomorrow?"
my husband: "because it's open."
Happy Monday to you!
An orange peel or Baptist fan would be nice.
ReplyDeletelove your husband's answer. I'll have to keep this one in mind for when I get asked that question - it will happen within days, I'm sure. Your quilt is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking pumpkin seeds, or is that the same as orange peel?
ReplyDeleteI´d go for clean&chic diagonal lines á la Red Pepper Quilts.
ReplyDeleteSince it's called Drano, how about some swirls (you know, like water going down the drain?)? LOL
ReplyDeleteMy daughter asked the same thing this morning when she didn't want to get out of bed. I think my answer was similar! haha.
My kids told me over the weekend that they thought it would be a great idea to have a 5 day holiday weekend (W,Th,F off) every week. Yikes! No way! I'd never get anything accomplished if they were always home.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what Em did for her quilting on her similar quilt, but you may want to pick her brain.
How about quilting a circle into each square piece? Might take forever. But I think the curve of it would break up the squares really nicely!
ReplyDeleteSince it's all squares, how about a giant concentric circle starting in the center and working out in a spiral? Really neat quilt...Julierose
ReplyDeleteIf it was me I'd do straight lines on each side of the seam, but I like the swirl idea too.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest went back to school too. I miss her!
Maybe emphasize the black squares even more by quilting on the diagonal through the black squares, to create a diamond. Then go inside each one, corner to corner on each charm. Does that make any sense? Concentric squares, basically, is what I'm trying to describe.

ReplyDeleteI'm definitely storing that answer in the back of my brain. I figure it's gotta work on more than why go to school. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have nothing new to add. I initially thought swirls like a toilet bowl too and then I thought of Oh Franson's orange peel design. I see circles or something with curves.
I am like you. I resort to the quilting I do easily and quickly and find it hard to do any other pattern. Something fluid to counteract the squares?
ReplyDeleteI don't have much experience with quilting. I don't really like the fiddly all ,over patterns. A light hearted finish would be the big spiral. You would have to do it in the right direction though. Love the school comment.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a lazy S in each small square - then its not too stuffy and its something you can machine quilt in a way shorter time than full circles.
ReplyDeleteSince it's draino, I'd do spirals tight at the center of each drain, spiraling wider as they go away from the drain, to look like it's water going into them... make sense? Maybe some water waves throughout the rest? You can make them very organic... wavy spirals...
ReplyDeleteI love your husbands' answer. Classic! For the quilting I think I'd do bubbles or circles, nothing angular.
ReplyDeleteFor the quilting, how about quilting around the solid with some fancy pattern design and on the others use random/ puzzle? Sometimes, I would love school open 7 days a week...
ReplyDeleteFor something geometric like this, it would be nice to soften it with an all-over larger scale stipple/meander. I love the shrinkly texture it gives after washing.
ReplyDeleteNo good ideas for the quilting, but I LOVE Kev's answer to young P!
ReplyDeleteDiagonal lines both ways would look great - simple and effective.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt. I vote for swirls, to soften all the geometric lines.
ReplyDeleteI have a quilt just like yours. Mine is called "Steps to the Alter" and I used 30's prints...LOVE! I quilted the solid (yours are the black ones) blocks in a cross-hatch and stippled the rest. It really looks great on the back, too! Enjoy! I love your quilt! I could make lots of them and never get tired of them!
ReplyDeleteI love how Dads have such great answers. I tend to over-explain everything, but my hubby gives straight forward, no-nonsense answers like this one:
ReplyDeleteQ "Why do we have to go to church?"
A "Because that's what our family does on Sunday."
end of discussion! Love that!
Not sure on your quilting dilemma. I always have to hang my tops up and live with them for a while before the quilting answers come.
I love the classic X in each square.
ReplyDeleteBut someone suggested your big concentric circle on top.....maybe off set would be cool.
So many options aren't there!?
Happy Sewing
I'm really chuckling-that's great. I sit and stare and try to figure out how you made Drano!?
ReplyDeleteKeep it simple with straight lines.
ReplyDeleteI almost spit out my coffee when I read your last little tidbit!!! Love your husband's reply!!! Sure hope I remember that one ;-)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking same as Mama Pea. Swirls. Love the quilt and love your hubby's answer to your 9 year old.
ReplyDeleteMaybe just simple straight-line quilting on this one. Or stippling all over?? I'm just no help at all. It's going to be gorgeous whatever you decide.
ReplyDeleteDid you decide on your quilting yet? I vote cross-hatching -- x right through those blocks!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so pretty I love it! I just got into quilting and I've been looking for some good moda fabrics, any idea on where to find some?
ReplyDeleteI love the school conversation. That one is priceless.
ReplyDeleteI would pick diagonal lines through the squares for the drano quilt. Maybe every other diagonal 'row'. It's gonna be lovely whichever way you quilt it!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I go to school every day cause it is open, too. Even when it isn't easy. :)
ReplyDeleteRecently finished my top similar to this. I'm thinking diagonal. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
