If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you know that I love to support
Margaret's Hope Chest and the work that they do. I'm happy to be teaming up with
Carin once again. I wrote up a tutorial for a very easy ragged square block, which can be found
here. Would you be willing to make a block (or several) and mail them to Margaret's Hope Chest? Then, on the weekend of August 25th, we are planning a sewing party where we, along with several West Michigan quilters, will be assembling the blocks into quilt tops. (More specific details to come.) I'd love to have them flooded with quilt blocks so we will be busy all weekend!
Just a few things....
Please make your quilt blocks monochromatic as stated in
the tutorial.
The deadline for this project has been extended and is now July 31, 2012.
This would be a great way to use up some stash for a great cause. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

ReplyDeleteSounds like fun! I might do a few. I just sent off my Wrapped in Hope quilt a week ago. I did some blocks for the Wrapped in Hope bee last year, too. It was fun to see how Carin put all of them together. It was fun to see the others share their blocks on the flickr group, too.
ReplyDeletehow do the blocks stay unraveled,,,do you just cut off the ragged edges when and after it is washed, i just don't get this part???????? JUST wondering,
ReplyDeleteI'd love to help. I understand monochromatic, but can we use children's fabric in mono? I have blue boy dirt bike fabric that needs a good home...thank you for extending the deadline.

ReplyDeleteThe raw edges will fray after washing. There will be a few strings that need trimming at that point, but these quilts wear beautifully and get softer and quite cozy with use. There is a ragged squares quilt tutorial that I posted that will explain it in more detail. Hope that helps!

This sounds like fun! I've actually been in Grand Rapids for the past month and wanted to make a kids quilt for their prison project, but I don't have enough tools with me to make one. Hoping I can whip out a quick one when I get home before their deadline for their visit, but it would have been nice not to have to mail it. :)

ReplyDeleteWould you be interested in an almost complete quilt top? The blocks are not monochromatic, but a red/tan/blue mix, they are sewn into rows, and the rows need sewing together. I'm just not loving it and it will probably languish in my UFO pile forever. Please let me know if you would want it, and I can mail it to you. Thanks.

In any case It is likely what I will send, unless you object onc eI get cracking on the blocks I will also blog about it, must be some other Ontario, or Canadian, quilters that will get involved, and the blocks seem super simple. ReplyDeleteI love that block. It is my friendship block from my quilt group. I asked them to use their favorite fabrics in one color. They sure had a hard time sticking with one color. I have it in top form and plan to machine quilt it, following your tutorial, next month. It's a fun and easy block. I will send...
