madilynn's quilt

Yesterday I hosted a baby shower (with the help of a few good friends) for my friend Tanya and her little baby girl. Of course I had to make them a quilt. :) I don't really make that many baby quilts, so I always forget how much fun they are! I love that you can start and finish one in a few short days.
I went with a simple patchwork pattern with a few random circles thrown in. I started with 5 circles (on white background squares) when I pieced the quilt. After the quilt top was done, I decided that the circles were too sparse, so I cut a few more to add on. I ended up quilting them right on to the quilt sandwich. It worked fine and dandy! It's fun to design on the fly. :)
The circles have raw edges, so they frayed nicely in the wash. I quilted the circles in spirals and the rest was stippled. The whole quilt crinkled up quite a bit after washing and drying. Yay!
The binding is from the Children at Play line. LOVE this fabric for binding. It's just so sweet!
The backing is Remix by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman. I picked this up last summer for a song. It's the perfect baby (girl) quilt backing! I'm happy I still have a bunch left. The quilt measures 40" x 50". I'm pretty certain that this quilt will be well used and loved. Hurray!

And while we are on the subject of baby quilts....remember this one? My daughter and I went to a birthday party a few weeks ago, and the new little guy was passed all around the room wrapped in his quilt. It made me so very happy to see his quilt in use! He made it look so much better. :) Aren't those little feet so adorable???

Happy Monday to you!

The quilt is so cute, and I never would have thought of adding the circles at the quilting phase. I always learn new things from you. Thanks bunches!

I just LOVE Ann Kelle's argyle prints, they are awesome.
Those feet are too cute. It is the best seeing a quilt you made in use!
My niece is old enough now to say "Aunt Charlotte made me this!" & I just love to hear her say that! Hers was my first quilt, other than a practice one I had to keep. lol

This is so pretty and perfect colors for a little girl! I love the fact that you added more circles to the completed quilt. Quilting (as well as any hand-crafted item) has no "rights" or "wrongs" to it, it should be whatever someone feels like doing, that's what makes it special. Love it!

Very Cute! I love baby quilts too -- quick and dirty. Doesn't it seem like new babies are everywhere these days -- we must be in the middle of a baby boomlet or something???

Ticker Tape Circles! Great idea!! (And we just don't ever get tired of circles around here- our quilt group meets monthly and I think someone always has a circle quilt to share.)

Awe, so sweet!
A very nice look from when I started having babies... :)
I am wondering, did you decide on a quick---pattern, measurements or turorial for the sweet
"lil-pin cushions"?
Did I miss it or what-cha' thinking on that?
Thanks.
Blessings~

All the fabrics you chose are so sweet and -- okay, I want to use the word "buttery" here. I know they're not all yellow, but they just are the right amount of saturation. They just look rich and decadent in a baby-girl way. I love how this turned out!

Very cute! My favorite new baby card says, "Some accomplishments are measured in feet..." It has cute little baby feet, too.

I love the tattered circles. Gives the quilt such interests. You have such a nice eye!

There is not much that beats the simplicity of a patchwork quilt, but your addition of the circles just takes it over the top! Perfection! Did you use a charm pack or just cut scraps? Doesn't it just warm your heart to see a baby snuggled in a quilt? Darling photo of those precious little feet!
