Welcome to week 5 of the quilt along. I am so glad that I am hosting this quilt along...because I'm afraid that without it, my quilting would be very minimal this summer. (How did life get so busy???) I'm still finding much less time than I would like, but at least I'm making progress on something!
This week I managed to make 4 blocks. I hope I have time to squeeze in a few more tonight? Then again, that may be wishful thinking. This is a no pressure quilt along...so I'm happy with my 4!
I said last week that I was going to add more yellow/gold. Check! Next week I need to move on to another color. :)
It's been fun to see all kinds of 36 patch blocks popping up in the quilt along flickr group. If you are quilting along, please remember to add your blocks to the group!
So, how are you doing on your blocks?
Happy Monday to you!

I am not quilting along, but am happily following you.
Keep up the good work!
Love the yellow blocks! And I always thought 'Summer-time and the livin' is easy' was a load of baloney...summer is ALOT of work!
Amanda Jean, your work is so beautiful!!! I love this quilt!!! Is this easy for a newbie like me? I am guessing I would need to cut strips and then sew them together, then cut the blocks with the rotary cutter? The colors you chose are just gorgeous!!! :o)
Fun to see the pretty fabrics you combine, Amanda Jean. It's going to be super gorgeous when it's finished.
I got ten blocks done this weekend. But, alas i found that my seams are 3/8ths rather than 1/4th, so my blocks are slightly smaller than yours :-/
Wow, your blocks and the ones on flickr are terrific! I love how a simple block can make a dynamic quilt. I love the variations. Ooops, I said love two sentences in a row, but I guess my meaning is clear. :-)

I just realized that you designed the Figgy Pudding quilt!! I used that pattern for a great cat fabric I had saved for years because I didn't want to cut it up. It's not quilted yet but turned out great. Thanks so much! Laura
It may be week 5 for all of you following the 36 patch... but it's day 1 for me. I just couldn't resist... so I jumped right on in... a little late.
My first block turned out GREAT!!! A wayward seam or two are going off in their own direction, and a few corners don't meet up exactly... but I had fun any way, and learned a new block. I can't wait to make more!!!
Amanda Jean... I appreciate the methodical tutorial. Piece by piece, inch by inch I watched as my block came together... just as you said it would. Thanks!
I love your blocks! I have 9 made. It's been over a week since I've been able to sew. Summer IS really busy. I'm going to try to get a pic of my blocks tonight or tomorrow to add to the group. These are so fun to sew. I'm hoping I can sew tonight too, but doubtful :(
Oh wow! I wish I had known about this quilt-along:)
Your work is fabulous and I would love to see it added to SeamedUP.com (a new quilting website a la ravelry).
Thanks, Allison
(full disclosure - I am a co-founder of the site)
Hello! I still haven't gotten more than my 12 done, but I have some high hopes! I don't know who I'm kidding, we leave on Saturday and I have so much to do. I'll be 18 behind when I get home! Must get started! A Fun Connecting Threads package arrived at the inn!! The thread is so cool! Two prizes down!
These are very sunny and cheery blocks! I got nothin' done on the 36-patch last week because life got so totally in the way. I'm hopeful that will change somewhat this week though! Because I'm definitely in need of the therapy they provide.
I finished the 36th block this weekend. Mine are a bit smaller. I hope you will offer some layout advice at the end. I have had alot of fun with the blocks.
Cheery yellow! That should bring a little sunshine to your quilt -- can't wait to see it finished.
I think I'm stopping at 30 blocks -- they're waiting on the floor for me to put them together.
Today I did a little "rehearsal" quilt. I made a doll size of your tutorial on a non-HST zig zag quilt (smaller strips, of course). I call it rehearsal because I'm thinking about doing a larger one in red and green for a Christmas quilt.
I love the way these four blocks look together!
I finally pulled all my fabrics together and I found out my daughter and her family will be visiting from Michigan on Wednesday! Very excited to see everyone, 3 granddaughters included, but now I will have to find my motivation again after they leave!
Your 4 gold are looking good!
oh no you have posted. I was thinking as long as you didnt post I wouldnt feel guilty that I have only done 6. I think I might make a dolls quilt :)
It is a summer thing isnt it? I only have grandkids and evenings around a firepit that stop me from getting to my machine. ]
thanks always for motivation
Well it's never to late to start a quilt a long. I saw this last week and I've already to start pulling fabrics. Will start sewing this weekend!!!! Yipee!!!
These are all so striking when placed side-by-side! I have too many irons in the fire to do this now, but I'm filing away this for a "someday" quilt. Thanks for you and others in the flickr group for sharing. Sarah
Lookin' GOOD!
beautiful blocks this week!
This quilt along is almost addictive. I have 20 blocks done so far and haven't completely decided how many I'll make but I'm havin a blast! Love your color choices.
Well, I am a little biased towards yellow, but I'd probably still find your blocks awesome regardless. I really like the one with the Amy Butler blue dots. Pretty!!
You are a busy gal. Go on over to Molly Flanders blog at blogspot and go to the entry titled stitches aboout 4 days ago and see the antique quilt like the star one you are working on. I made this quilt too about 10 years ago. I love it. Mary Jo
I love all of your blocks. Mine have repeats, but I'm okay with that. I'm trying to use up fabrics that I've had and some I bought for a different quilt but decided to use them here instead :) I've done 33 so far and am aiming for 42 so I'm almost there. My squares aren't perfect, but neither am I so it's all good, lol. Thanks so much for this q-a-l. I love learning new things and you are very inspiring.
Fun to see your progress! I love the warm yellows you added for this week. I haven't had much time for quilting lately either, so it's a relief to hear I'm not the only one with summer distractions. Got lots of ideas swirling around which is cool too.
I absolutely love the bottom right hand corner block! They are all beautiful, but my eye keeps getting drawn back to that one in particular. I think it might be the "blue" print...pretty sure it's not a true blue...but close enough. Any idea what fabric line it is? Or where you got it? I might have to see if I can locate it in the near future.
oh i love the yellow :) especially the one with the tiny apples.. do you know who designet it or what it is called?
I was going to quilt-along but it seemed like a very big mountain at first.. I hope I'm gonna do it anyway... someday :)
Love the yellow in your blocks! I'm still having fun with this - getting near my 49-block goal already!
Your blocks are full of sunshine! I managed another pair yesterday, so am up to 12 so far. I need to up my game (60 to go!) but I have been doing them as leaders and enders so perhaps they will take centre stage next week :)
You kicked off the week with sunny blocks!
It's been such a busy week and I keep walking by the sets of strips waiting to be sewn. I missed working on these last week. I'm glad you reminded me that this is a no pressure quilt along. The blocks will get done. I just may celebrate the start of school tomorrow by sitting at my machine for a nice long stretch!
That's an awesome group of blocks! I love the bottom right one.
Love the gold blocks! I'm not partisipating except as an observer, but I am following along.
So far, I love these blocks the best. Colors are great and look good together!
One of these days, when I'm more caught up, I'll try my hand at making these!
Karen
I know what you mean about how busy the summer goes, especially with kids home from school. mine are coming along- slowly but surely.
I cannot be in this quilt along right now.....but I think these blocks are just fun and colorful and What a great idea! I've enjoyed watching for them. Maybe this winter I can get some going..
Those are gorgeous and just remind me so much of summer! :)
Love those yellows!!! I'm still working at my very slow snail's pace ;-)
i'm 35 blocks into this and going full steam ahead to get to 72! loving every single block i make and haven't repeated any fabrics yet (does this tell how much of a stash i have...) these blocks really are addicting. i have 21 more in progress, all in varying stages (strips cut, strips sewn together, and material pressed and ready to be cut into strips). this way seems to work best for me on this particular quilt. keeps me from getting bored. thanks again for this great quilt a long!
I cut more strips yesterday! Moving into new colors!
lovely happy colors!
I'm working on the last batch of 8 blocks, which will give me my 36. My quilt is going to be LOUD, lots of colors and contrast. It's a little outside of my norm, but I'm loving it so far. Back to the machine!

Fun! It tempts me to join the quilt along. I need to finish the quilt I am making first.
Looking great, Amanda. I think it's going to be a fantastic quilt!
37 complete; 27 of those were done today and yesterday. i think they look cute!
i'm aiming for 81. that's a lot, but i don't see the point in making a quilt that isn't big enough for a bed!
Very nice I can't wait to see the finished result.
I had a quiet, husband/kid-free evening, and got my whole top assembled. Just have to add borders. Have loved watching this come together. My house is a disaster, but my quilt looks great.

Love the yellow blocks!

I agree with Annie above :0)
Congratulations on another beautiful design at the Moda Bake shop.
I wish you continued success.
Happy Sewing
I have been watching your progress and will do this quilt....but I have been thinking of my basket of left over bits of quilt bindings.....they are all cut 2.5 inches.......hmmmmmmm maybe a great way to use up those leftovers :0).
As always I enjoy visiting your blog and getting a dose of AmandaJean inspiration :0)
Happy Sewing
I've missed many weeks! I think I'll have to skip the rest of them too, I just can't see my fabrics at this kind of blocks :( Maybe next time with better luck and no summer holidays :)
I'm just jumping in on the fun too! I'm loving my first blocks but have no idea how many I'll make. Thanks for the fun!
