So, today I pulled out my string scrap bin and tried to divert my attention from all the new projects calling my name. I made a few more of these free formed coin blocks. I have about 20 ideas of how I could use them. And I just stumbled upon a new one.
I received these blocks, shown above, along with a passel of scraps from someone a few years ago. They really aren't my style, but I have this thing where I feel the need to rescue fabric (I could write a whole post or two on that subject!) and apparently quilt blocks, too. I held on to the blocks because figured I would come up with a way to use them somehow, someday.
Well, it finally all clicked. I don't know what prompted me to pair them with my pieced string blocks, but wow-whee! I am smitten!!! What a difference scraps can make! I love stumbling upon happy accidents like this. The only down side is, I'm going to have to make a bazillion more blocks for my other 20 ideas. :)

OMG that really does look amazing! I must admit - when I first started reading your post, I wasn't really sold on those blue & white blocks......but team them up with your bright blingy scrap strips and they just totally work!!
Don't start something new. Just think how you will feel if you only had a dozen projects going at once. :) That layout has a real possibility.

It works perfectly, i have a few of those blocks around myself.
I have my next quilt project ready to go, but I still have a quilt top to finish first. It's so hard to motivate myself to put the border on when I have pretty new fabrics waiting for me@

How funny that you made liberated coins... I just made some a few weeks ago... so fun to make! I used a foundation and squared to 3 1/2 X 10. Fun and colorful way to use up scraps!
What a great idea! I feel the same way about rescuing fabric. I have bags of fabric that I don't like, but don't want to see thrown away! Thanks for the inspiration to dig through my ugly fabric and try to beautify it!
What amazes me is that it has an American Indian feel to it....

I make a lot of strip pieced rows like you did and stash them away for who-knows-what! Sometimes they just come in handy - and yours really brightened up the sort of plain-ish blue and white blocks.
They also make up into quick charity quilts - they can give sort of a primitive ethnic look.

oh, I start far too many new projects as well. The start of this year was going to be for finishing some UFOs, but I started more projects instead!! oops!
