The Easy as Pie quilt is done! I sure love simple quilts that show off all kinds of pretty prints. Tara helped me pull fabrics for this quilt when she came to visit in February. It's always interesting to see my stash through other peoples' eyes. She added a few fabrics into the mix that I never would have thought to put it in, but I love how they all work together.
If I ever grow up as a quilter and I have my own signature style quilting, I'd like this to be it. It's relaxed, easy to do and adds a bit of movement to the quilt. I haven't washed it yet, but I have a feeling that it will have a great texture (even better than it is now, I should say!) after I do. The quilting lines, which are done with a walking foot, are about 1 1/4" apart. Just the right density to keep the quilt together for a long time, but far enough apart to maintain softness in the quilt.
This backing is something that I came across at JoAnn's, if you can believe it. It is THE perfect red, it was half price and I was amazed at how good it felt. Gotta love that! I just love red polka dots!! I bound the quilt in a sweet lime green print from my stash.
The quilt finishes at 58" x 70".
If you want to make a quilt like this, you can find the tutorial for the Easy as Pie quilt here.
Happy Monday to you!
I think you are all grown up as a quilter...since I try to emulate your style! I am proposing to teach a quilting class here in MD that I am calling "Modern Machine Patchwork and Quilting"--easy to do yet beautiful and personal. Anyway, your quilt looks fresh and pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Very vibrant colours.
ReplyDelete"Easy as Pie" may be just what I need! My 6 year old daugther has outgrown her Princess quilt, and is asking for a new quilt for her bed - this could be it :)
ReplyDeleteI love the red and aqua combo! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics all look fabulous together and the quilting looks great too!
ReplyDeleteIt is absolutely beautyful!
ReplyDeleteWish I had the time and space to quilt. I guess that will be when the kids grow up and move out...
I LOVE the vintage look. I'm currently working on a very vintage quilt one that either my grandma, great grandma, or great aunt started. It is mostly feed sacks/flour sacks, and pieces of clothing and all hand stitched. I'm getting some battle wounds from trying to keep it all hand stitched. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors you used here; the red and aqua are so pretty together. The quilting is really neat, too. I love the slight wave, and it really does add movement. I have purchased some of that same red and white polka dot from Joanne's, and it is such a nice true red. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the colors! I may have to make this for someone on my Christmas list this year.
ReplyDeleteSo very cute... Love the background as well. Being from Europe I don't know what JoAnne is excately but it sounds like you were lucky to find something of a treasure there :)
ReplyDeleteLove. The colors and fabrics work very well together. Gotta love a good Jo-Ann deal!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt! It is just perfect in every way - lots of my favorite colors, a great backing (RED!!) and the binding is just right, too. Your quilting is pretty well perfect, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt girl! mmm
ReplyDeleteI hope my easy as pie quilt looks as good as yours when I am finished.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is so liberating. Thank you for making a simple quilt beautifully! Thank you for choosing and incorporating fabric that you love! Thank you for your humility. Yours was the first quilting blog I stumbled upon, and it is usually the one that I refer to when doing any step in quilting. I honestly think you taught me how to quilt. And, whenever I talk to people about quilting, it is always fun to hear them say, "Oh, I read a tutorial about that on Crazy Mom Quilts." You Rock!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I agree, a simple pattern is nice to show the fabric and I certainly will remeber this one. Love the colour of the binding and the backing too!
ReplyDeleteGroetjes
Annemieke
Oh, how I love this quilt, and I think I will attempt to make one myself sometime soon! :o) I am a beginner, and this looks quite doable--I think, anyway! LOL Thanks for sharing. :o) I just love your choice of fabrics.
ReplyDeleteVery cute - I just love those colors! ...and the backing is great. Way to go, Joanns!
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove those colors! And the backing really adds to it. Very, very nice.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite colours with the perfect backing! Yum, yum...
ReplyDeleteSqueeeeeal! That splash of lime for the binding is divine. Love Easy as Pie, Amanda Jean. It's scrumptious.
Great quilt! May just have to make it soon to "bust some stash".
ReplyDeleteLove the quilting too as it's one of my "signatures" as well. I refer to it as my wavy line quilting. I like it because it is easy, yet effective, and I can do it with my walking foot, which is much less stressful for me than FMQ lol.
The quilt I just finished has the wavy line quilting in the borders.
I love this quilt-- I'm thinking of making a similar one soon! I especially love the quilting, though-- I'm thinking I might have to steal the design if I make a similar quilt :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the quilting - I have been trying to find just the right amount of quilting to keep the softness of the quilt so that it isn't too stiff. I'll have to give this a try! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteoh, it's cute. i love that green binding.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Amanda Jean!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Sometimes a simple quilt pattern is just perfect to show those lovely fabrics, i did a couple in the bliss and verna ranges in a similar fashion they turned out great! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and the quilting lines!
ReplyDeleteLooks great AJ, sort of springy/summery. I love the backing.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great and simple quilt! I have the perfect Christmas fabric and I think I will be making one in the very near future...thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThis is a truly lovely quilt. Simple and straight forward. Meant to be used and loved.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty quilt - I'm going to add it to my bucket list to test out for our quilt ministry - looks like it might be a great scrappy and quick addition to the repertoire! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteThe colours are great, and the red polka dots bring it to life.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love that red backing - I got the same from JoAnn's. Did you pre-wash it? Pam
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeletePam,
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't prewash the red. I did a quick color fast test in my sink and no dye came out. Hope that holds true in the wash machine! For that fabric AND all the rest.

Fun project! How great to have it finished now. I love how soft that quilting made it look. Definitely want to snuggle up in this one! It's also fun to look at the variety of prints on the front
ReplyDeleteYummy quilt...just yummy!

Love this!!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt and think the lime green border was a touch of genius! I plan on using this pattern for my first foray into quilting!
ReplyDeleteHi, I love your quiltpattern. I'm going to try this one. Meandering isn't working for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat colour choice. Such a simple yet beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh it looks great! Love the quilting on it as well.
ReplyDeleteMy kind of quilt! it looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric combinations and the close-up on the quilting... looks fun and easy and now on the "must try" list.
ReplyDeleteWhen you did the quilting, how did you keep it 1 1/4 inches apart? I struggle to get the quilting even when I try to quilt with lines.
ReplyDeleteI love that you bound it in the lime green, and I love the wavy crosshatching too. I just finished my easy as pie quilt too and am about to blog about it.
ReplyDeleteME,
ReplyDeleteWhen quilting the lines, I tried to follow/echo the block lines from the patchwork. First I did the lines about 1 1/4" from the seams, then I quilted lines in between those, splitting the empty space in half. Then I sewed between those lines, splitting the empty space in half again. Finally, I sewed over the seam lines in the patchwork. I hope that makes sense!

What are you talking about? You do have a signautre style - its called FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful. I really love blue and red together.
ReplyDeleteReds and blues are so satisfying together:)
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome! I love the colors and the quilting. That red with polka dots IS perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour style? LOL I think you have it! I told a friend who I sent to your site, "You'll love her style! It's simple but beautiful!" Which of course she did!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think I may try this one when I am done with the 2 projects I am working on now!
I love it. That green binding looks great.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt! It is beautiful, and it definitely looks simple... Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou changed the backing choice! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great quilt. And I love the pop of green as the binding!
ReplyDeletelovely quilt!!thanks for the tutorial!!
ReplyDeletehugs from spain!
Lovely! Definitely fun to have another quilter playing in the mix. And so happy that you found a good quilting balance. The more I play with quilting, the more I actually like dense quilting, but man, if it's not soft? Forget about it! An art quilt can be stiff. Otherwise, I gotta be able to snuggle under that thing and that means soft. :) Glad this one fits the bill.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteso pretty! you always shasre things that make the beginners of us feel like we'll get there someday. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWow Lovely quilt you did a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteLove it! so cute!! Your quilting is lovely and the backing is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Especially the polka dot back!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt! I love the quilting and the lime green binding!
ReplyDeleteI am a BIG fan of simplicity. This is one of my favorite quilts I've seen in a long time in blog land. Love it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!!! It makes me want to run upstairs & get started on my own RIGHT NOW! This could be dangerous!
ReplyDelete- limivadygirl
Love the simplicity of the quilt, and I adore those poka dots.
ReplyDeleteThis is still one of my favorites. I have a stack of similar fabrics and now I'm dying to cut them up and shamelessly copy. Love the lime green binding!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! The colours and fabrics look amazing together. Lucy x
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet quilt! Love the color combo.
ReplyDeletethere is so much to gush about over this quilt. that lime binding just blew my mind. i **never** would have chosen that color for the binding, but it adds so much interest. so many red and aqua quilts are rigid, but your binding and the green in the calorie print are a fantastic addition. the backing is perfect, but you knew that already :) and the quilting is just right. i love it all!
ReplyDeleteThat quilting really compliments that quilt so well. It's a beautiful match to the patchwork you did.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love scrap quilts! I have a couple of foundation pieced patterns where I can use bunches of strips and odd little pieces - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSoooo lovely Quilt..
ReplyDeleteHello Amanda... I love this and made one baby blanket using this pattern... thanks...

I love these colors! Very pretty!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so easy! I loved it because I didn't want to match a bunch of finiky seams for a quilt I planned on using outside. Please feel free to see what I've created using your pattern. Thanks for sharing! http://bluecrabquilting.blogspot.com/2011/06/easy-as-pie.html
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to see if you still have this quilt or one similar in style and color. I'm preparing for my first baby and her nursery is red and aqua. I would love to have this displayed on the wall in her room. I, by no means am a sewer and therefore not even remotely close to being able to quilt. Do you sale your finished products and this one in particular?
ReplyDeleteI know it has been a year since your post, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Gorgeous work!
Kyla
