I've been turning these batting scraps
into a nice pile of squares
that were coupled with a bunch of O-L-D charm packs
and some more charm packs
to make these blocks.
I'm taking a stab at making (my first ever) rag quilt. It was that or make about 200 coasters. Ha!
I ran out of coordinating charm packs, so I raided the stash and filled in as needed. I'm hoping I haven't gotten too carried away with my color scheme. I guess I'll find out in a day or two. :)
Happy Monday to you!
What a great idea... I love rag quilts... can't wait to see yours!
ReplyDeleteHe praises idea, already you were teaching us you still have since it ... I encourage and graces for sharing. Besotes (I am sorry that my Englishman is not very good).

Love rag quilts!! Simple and quick project! Plus they're comfy to cuddle up with.
ReplyDeleteI have never made a rag quilt. Hope you are kind enough to show how this is done. very interesting. And I have lots of scraps and batting scraps piled up...maybe I need to cut them up!

Have a great week.
Well, it will be interesting to see what comes of it.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the end product!! Though, I for one cannot understand why you didn't go the coaster route :)
ReplyDeleteI'm fascinated to see how you're going to use the squares of batting. Is it sort of 'quilt as you go'? And, love a 'use it all' session....very satisfying!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, i knew i was saving my batting scraps for something....
ReplyDeletethanks for cluing me in!
rag quilts are awesome! i got a kit last year @ the quilt show here in quilt city USA, paducah KY...you'll be pleasantly surprise @ the end result! :)

ReplyDeletejust finished making a rag quilt (fluffy flannel) It is in the dryer as we speak....so to speak!
ReplyDeleteThis one will be great!
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to seeing how this develops!
ReplyDeleteGood job. Rag quilts are great to make! I've made around 15 of them, they work up fast. My daughter always did the batting step for me! They make good gifts.
ReplyDeleteI've not seen one with batting before.... How does it go together? I'd love to use up my scrap batting as well. Looks like it will be very cozy!
ReplyDeleteooh, I loved the Aviary line! So soft and pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteI made a rag quilt one time and used flannel for the inner layer. I bet the batting will make it extra cozy.
Be careful! Rag quilts can become incredibly addicting! Especially if you have rag quilt snippers!
ReplyDeleteHa! 200 coasters. That is exactly what I was thinking in the beginning of your post. A rag quilt is a great idea! And I too get so excited when I use up things. Makes me feel frugal. I love when all the leftovers in the fridge come together to make a great meal.
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else, can't wait to see the finished product. I think lot's of people will like the technique you're using! THe shop was slow this afternoon, I didn't really need to be there, but I said that since I have to pay for an extra day of day care that I was going to stay! Got a wrap it up bag done, but broke my snap so have to attach that on Wednesday. Hope to talk soon!
ReplyDeletesuch a great idea! i always keep my scraps, but get overwhelmed when i can't figure out what to do with them. (especially the batting scraps.)
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun...minus all the snipping...I could never make a rag quilt with 5" squares...hats off to you! =)
ReplyDeleteRag quilts are so fun and easy to make! In fact, that is the only quilt that I have started AND completed (since I am very intimidated by "regular" quilts). If I can do it, you surely can too! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI've made a couple of rag totebags/handbags. I think they are so cute. It looks like you have a good start on your quilt.
ReplyDeleteI made my first ever rag quilt last month and then I made one shortly after- it is very satisfying and quick. Enjoy. Just a tip, the first time you dry it you should do it on it's own, otherwise the rest of the items in the dryer will show it!!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. I want to know everything about how to make a rag quilt. Staying tuned...
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a rag quilt in progress before - looking forward to seeing yours, as I've got a ton of old batting scraps that could do with using up!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea ... I find using batting scraps strangely addicting too ;) Can't wait to see how this turns out ... will there be a tutorial too? Pretty please?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more progress shots.

ReplyDeleteFun Frugality! (Did I just name your quilt?)
ReplyDeleteI love my rag quilt, but it is 3 layers of flannel, except for the clipping...
What a great way to use up batting scraps. I'll be really interested to see how this comes together!
ReplyDeleteMay I recommend the Heritage Rag Scissors? They are so much nicer for Rag Quilting than regular scissors as they have a fabulous spring - you are not fighting to open and close!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to use batting scraps! I can't wait to see your finished rag quilt. I have never made one before, but now the ideas are running amok in my head!
ReplyDeleteyou are so good at using it all! I am intrigued to see your new rag quilt - cool way to use some old charms and leftover batting pieces.

So fabulous! You are my idol! Can't wait to see the finished project.
ReplyDeleteHello. I love your blog. I have a question. Can you please tell me which kind/sort of batting you use for your quilts? This would interest me.
