The layout is much different than what I had anticipated when I first started this quilt. That happens sometimes, and that's ok. I really like this happy little accident!
Materials:12 10" squares...either use layer cake pieces or yardage from your stash. (if you are using yardage, you will need just under a yard of fabric) I used 12 different prints.
1 1/4 yards background fabric (white, in my case)
1/3 yard binding
1 1/2 yards backing fabric
37" x 49" batting or larger
Cutting:
Cut the background fabric into 16 2.5" x wof (width of fabric) strips.
If using yardage for the colors, cut 12 10" squares.
Assembly:
Follow the instructions here to assemble the 12 blocks.
Then, cut each block into quarters. Each piece will be 6.25" square.
My original layout was going to be this:
It's ok, but it definitely lacked pizazz. Not the vision I had at all.
So, a little rearranging of the blocks....
Much, much better!
Here's a better view of how the blocks are layed out.
Sew the blocks together into rows.
Sew the rows together to make a quilt top.
Finished quilt top size is 35" x 47".
If you try this pattern, I'd love to see it!-----
In other news....Cheryl is here for the week to visit. Woo-hoo! We've been playing fabric already. Imagine that. :) And she gave this quilt it's great name. Thanks Cheryl!
I plan on picking a winner for Amy's Modern Basics book sometime tomorrow.
Happy Monday to you!
I'm really digging this monthly exercise in stash reduction - thanks!
ReplyDeletelove this, love the colors! I will stash this in my mental notes for "quilts to make".
ReplyDeleteI love them both, your original and the final. Maybe I'll have to try them both.... more scraps used and more fun. =)
ReplyDeleteOh I really like this! Very pizazzy :)
ReplyDeleteI love the wonky diagonals!
ReplyDeleteyour happy accidents are the best! :)
ReplyDeleteYou have great quilt top vision! I love it.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!! Definitely getting added to the to do list!
ReplyDeleteI love any ideas that look like I have done a lot of piecing. This design looks great. I think the diagonal arrangement is so much more interesting than the squares.
ReplyDeleteLove the final design. So much better. Your colors are yummy. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt, but I think I would start with the smaller squares and add the white to the two sides. I work better that way than cutting a bigger square. Call me crazy, but I hate cutting apart already sewn together big pieces. Same end result, but I'd rather do all of my cutting first and then all of my sewing. I'm gonna try this with 6 1/2 inch squares cuz I got a ton of them already cut out. Just need to cut a bunch of white fabric to go with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great idea.
Big fan of the layout. A little modern/edgy without too complicated assembly... Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteGreat layout and colors!
ReplyDeleteLoving this quilt and your layout is wonderful...i'm see it in red's and blue's'..thanks for the inspiration..
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful little quilt. So clever and so simple. I just love it. Loving the purple and green, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking modern Easter with the green, purple and strong graphic visual.
ReplyDeleteMy kind of quilt! I might try it with scrappy whites also.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I never would have thought to put it together that was. Smarty!
ReplyDeleteI love the layout...and never would have thought of doing it that way. That's why you are the queen of quilting!!! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous and I LOVE the colors!!
ReplyDeleteThat is just a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI have stash in mind to make this on the weekend!
Thanks!
I really, really LOVE this quilt. The green and purple are fabulous together!
ReplyDeleteI really love this quilt.
ReplyDeleteI really like the "stepping up" look!
ReplyDelete~Judy
I agree with JG...the "stepping up" look is very nice. Easy to make and can easily use up scraps too. Happy quilting.

ReplyDeleteThe zig zag design is so interesting, and the colors work great together.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome quilt. Love, Love, Love it and can't wait to make one of my own.
ReplyDeleteLove the new layout. I think you should call it the "7-L Quilt." (In each row the white background fabric is either a 7 or an "L".
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I think I'll make one, too! Great inspiration!
Very Cool CrazyMom! I just saw a super cute little girls dress in those colors today -- you're on the cutting edge as always! ;-D

ReplyDeleteSeguramente haré esta colcha porque me gusta mucho.
Stunning - I love it and might just keep this in mind for some of my own stash clearing later in the year.
ReplyDeleteI love the layout you settled on, but I'm a little confused. You had PURPLE in your stash? That doesn't seem like you. The question is: Why haven't we seen a pink quilt yet? Cuz we know you've got THAT stashed. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt

ReplyDeleteOptical Illusion!
ReplyDeleteWow and thanks :0) I have a quilt in mind for my middle daughter. I've put together a couple of charm pack squares and sashing but it was so lacking that it's been sitting in the quilting/guest room waiting for me to go back to it. This could so be the way I need to go with it! Thanks again, Sarah

ReplyDeleteI am about to start this in green and aqua! I had bought these two amazing vine fabrics in vine and aqua and saw this pattern and thought it would be perfect, but I'm going to make it bigger. I am a new quilter and don't have a huge stash so I pulled a few fabrics from my stash and bought the rest.
ReplyDeleteCindy said.
