My long division quilt is complete! You can find the tutorial
here. This was my first time designing a quilt with a values approach, and I think I will be exploring this method further. It's quite fun!
The backing is something I picked up at my LQS for $1.99/yard on sale. I LOVE getting great deals like that on backings. Or on any fabric, for that matter. :)
I stitched a simple swirl all over in light grey thread. It blended with most fabrics well. That's about all you can ask for, especially in a quilt like this with so many colors and values.
I tried out a new labeling approach. I used a little fusible web to this make it. It's ok, but I think I'm ready to graduate to "real" labels. Labels that someone else makes. Or else the labeling rarely gets done.
And here it is all rolled up. I love that little grey and white bicycle fabric. It's so sweet! In fact, there are so many special fabrics in here...some came from my friends:

Victoria. This is sure to be one of my favorite quilts for a long time to come. And it's all from stash. I think I might go make another. :)

I LOVE YOUR BLOG - noticed you mentioned labels? A friend uses Custom Couture Labels for her purses that she sells on Esty. MADE IN THE USA (N.H.) Check them out, as they have great quality & seem to be very reasonable. Keep up the beautiful quilts!
I adore this quilt! I love the pattern, I love the colors, I love the quilting (go grey thread), and I love the backing fabric. You find the best fabrics at your LQS, especially for backings. And to my surprise, I saw my name as a contributor. How cool is that. This will be another great quilt to add to my efforts to use up my scrap stash!

It's so good! I love that even using all of those bold prints, separating the values like that gives the eye a place to rest so it isn't too busy! Love the gray thread swirl too! It is fast becoming my favorite neutral thread!
Oh, I love how it came out. I am starting to quilt mine tonight and can't wait to finish it. I made the backing entirely from scraps too, so thanks to you I have only used purchased batting for this project.

With as many quilts as you do, you deserve to have "real" labels. So many people I know through blogland use namemaker. That's where I'll order from if I can ever find a catchy name to put on my quilts.

Wonderful quilt! I'll be sure to save the tutorial to my list of quilts to make (in the future). Love your machine quilting! Wish I could do that, but so far, I'm doing well with straight line quilting.

What is there NOT to love about this quilt. Starting with the name Long Division *sigh*: perfect name! And having scraps from friends in a quilt makes it super special. I don't think I can do meander quilting but I might try the loopy quilting. It looks awesome! Because I DID promise myself I will machine quilt in 2011!

While of course I can always appreciate an intricate quilt, it is this kind of quilt I am always drawn to. Fun to make and beautiful to look at. And something draws me about squares and rectangles. I really like this one.
And a question for you, where do you find your labels? I have had a hard time finding labels. I am going to try and make them...

I've ordered labels from this shop a few times: http://www.etsy.com/people/customcouturelabelco - my favourites at the moment are the ribbon yardage with my name repeated along the length - with about an inch between each repeat I can fold them in half and sew them into the seam of the binding on the reverse, or across the corner in a diaganol.

For labels, I've started using Spoonflower. It's a fabric printing service where you can upload your design & have it printed (in full color!!) on a number of different fabrics, for a very reasonable price. It's great if you want to use more than just text for your label.
I wanted to use my cattails logo, so I created my label design in PhotoShop, uploaded it, and ordered 1/4 yd of it in 3 different sizes, so I can play around with it on different items.
I've also done a few 'single' labels on samples, for special quilts or IRRs. Again, an easy way to get a nice label, if you don't have your own embroidery machine or can't print on fabric or transfer paper.
