These were made from white Kona cotton and lots of pretty scraps...many of which came from Terri. Thank you, friend!
The tutorial is here. I loved it then, I love it even more now, in a scrappy version.
I love free piecing, but once in awhile it's a good exercise to do some precision piecing for a change. My 1/4'' foot helps!
Doh! I just noticed an error in one of the blocks. Can you see it too?
bummer! left block top left corner. Oh well...at least it's an easy one to fix...and you noticed it before you had a whole quilt top put together. ;)
ReplyDeleteYep... definitely an easy fix tho. Super cute idea... I have lots of scraps, might have to give this one a try.

ReplyDeleteThey are lovely, I love the colours of the scraps, and as always LOVE the white!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that funny how you see your mistake after you post a pic---done that before!
ReplyDeleteI was just about to ask if you wanted me to point out the oops. :o)
ReplyDeleteI think those are twinkly stars in the White, pretty.
ReplyDeleteI always spot my mistakes in photos too!

I had to look at it for awhile to see it, so it may or may not be worth tearing out. I LOVE scrappy quilts/blocks, they are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe persians always put a mistake in their rugs so as not to present themselves as perfect. My mom use to always put in a mistake in her wall hangings. Funny part was that it was easier to find her imperfections than the actual purposeful error. The beauty of art is that it is created my non perfect humans.
ReplyDeleteI do but only because you mentioned it! They are beautiful (mistakes or not!)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks! Love those colors against the white!
ReplyDeleteI did see the error, but it can be fixed quickly and easily. Lots of quilters say that every quilt has at least one mistake!
UH OH! I see it! but only after you pointed it out! I love the colors!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors with the Kona white. Beautiful job piecing.
ReplyDeleteDidn't notice the error until you pointed it out :-)
It's not a mistake. It's a spin on a traditional design.
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty! I like Suzanne's take on the boo-boo :-)
ReplyDeleteSome reverse sewing happening at your place? ;) I was wondering why they were different and realised maybe they weren't meant to be different! They look beautiful and fresh!
ReplyDeleteWhat a soft, pretty quilt those will make. Easy fix on the "mistake".
ReplyDeletesuper cute - such fresh colors! I might try that block - how would you suggest putting those together into a quilt?
ReplyDeleteReally pretty, if you like those star kind of things! Color choices are great and I'd never have noticed had you not pointed it out! Are you up for a chat?
ReplyDeleteMistake or no mistake, this is super cute! I will for sure try it, and I am also interested in your suggestions for making it up into a quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
It was the first thing I saw, but an easy fix, and the blocks are lovely nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the mistake. It just shows you are human! Plus who wants to get out the seam ripper?
ReplyDeleteYay, I adore these blocks! I was thinking about doing a star block for my quilting bee project this year, and I might want to use your tute for these. Happy to see my scraps in action, rather than shoved into my scrap bin waiting to be included in some patchwork fun.
ReplyDeleteAn error in one of the blocks? I see no such thing! hehehehe
Yes, the left star and in the upper left. But I liked it! Wonder how it will look to have all corner like that.
ReplyDeleteMaja
I didn't notice the oopsie until I looked for it. Beautiful colors in this, can't wait to see more. :o)
ReplyDeleteYeah saw it right away and thought it looks cute and does not take away from the block.......leave it alone...." a humility block"
ReplyDeleteBesides we all know you are awesome and practically perfect in every way...
Happy sewing
I don't think I'd worry about it - the blocks are lovely the way they are.
ReplyDeletei like it. keep it that way. it's barely noticable anyway.
ReplyDeleteI didn't notice until you asked! I like it that way they are! I would love to learn how to quilt like you from scraps. I am slowing getting into stiching small pieces. I hope someday to make small children quilts for the homeless or orphane children. If you have interest in ever donating let me know. I have a give back today blog you can read more about what I am doing. -Melanie www.givebacktoday.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteupper left corner of the left square... probably wouldn't have seen it if you hadn't mentioned it. These are really pretty!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see it for the longest time, even when I was looking for it! If it was me (and this is only because I am the queen of lazy quilting, lol) I don't think I'd even mess with ripping it out. I love the colors you've put together and the way it all flows. Looks great! Makes me wish I was a little more patient with that whole precision sewing thing. :D
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Isn't it funny how we never notice those types of things until we're done? :P
ReplyDeleteI like the stars. A LOT! I did find the mistake, but if you don't fix it, it is likely no one would notice it.
ReplyDeleteYou know I think personally I'd leave it and put it into a larger quilt. Wouldn't it be fun on a larger quilt to know there was one thing to specifically look for?
ReplyDeletebeatiful blocks by the way!!!
Heidi
These are beautiful! I will have to try this tutorial!
ReplyDeleteDon't you love a good camera shot to find your mistakes LOL! What would we do without them? I LOVE this block -- I love stars.
ReplyDelete{cough}bella{cough}
Hahaha!
Love these....lovely.
ReplyDeleteyep, that corner is turned the wrong way. But it looks great! I wouldn't fix it, if I were you. It gives it character.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are always beautiful, mistake or not (not that I've ever seen one before) :o)
ReplyDeleteI like the colors in your blocks. I had to look a while for the misplaced squares. It is a very quiick fix.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Beautiful blocks...I see it, but I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you asked if we could see your switch - it sort of seemed like one of those photo hunt things where you have to spot the differences between the two provided pics!
ReplyDeleteSo will you take it out and change or leave it in for "character" for the finished piece?
I had to look for it as I did not notice it. I just thought they were awfully cute! I am working on some variable stars and pinwheels right now.
ReplyDeleteAh! I see it! It is like playing I spy.
ReplyDeleteit's not a mistake, it's handmade. that's what makes it wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love the 'quirky' block... I would leave it - on purpose! I love the scrappy-ness too!
ReplyDeleteI love the star design. It will look great in a whole quilt. I'd leave that block as is. Consider it a humility block like in the days of old. I think my scraps might be used for the same design.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a minute to find the error. I scanned around and got to that corner last. My first quilt teacher told us to put the block we liked the least in the top left of our sampler quilt, because no one would ever notice it!
ReplyDeleteUpper left, it shows you are humble.
ReplyDeleteBetter than posting a picture with your bras in it for all the world to see. Why no, I wouldn't have any experience with that, why do you ask?
ReplyDeletegorgeous! and i read once that amish quilt makers deliberately made one mistake in their blocks, because only God is capable of perfection - or something like that. so go with it!
ReplyDeleteLove the scrappy look of these blocks. I didn't notice the mistake until you pointed it out. We are often our own worst critics:)
ReplyDeleteThey are happy little block, right? Mistake? Thought it was just a variation on a theme!
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteUm, I was just going to say the same thing as someone else, about the Amish deliberately putting in a mistake as a sign of humility. Regardless, the blocks are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI say leave it. It will make you smile each time you look at it :)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are really pretty. Isn't it funny how sometimes you don't see a mistake until you see it in a picture or at the very end of doing something?
ReplyDeleteAwww.....just leave it and call it your "Humility Block"!!! Always Love to see your selection of fabrics!
ReplyDeleteTrès jolies ces étoiles. J'aime beaucoup. Dommage pour le bloc en haut à gauche. Personnellement je laisserai comme ça, ça donne une touche personnelle au quilt une fois fini.
ReplyDeleteVery nice these stars. I love it a lot. Arf for the left block. In my opinion, you should let it like that, il will give your quilt finished a personnal touch.
Yes, I saw it... glad you did too, so I don't need to tell you LOL. Love this block!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it.
ReplyDeleteOur queen here in Denmark is very creative and makes a lot of things for churches (chasubles and the likes) and designs costumes for the royal ballet and she says, that there must always be an error - you should be able to see that it is homemade.
I tend to honour that...
Love the colors you are using in this block. So pretty. Noticed the turned around corner piece but at least it is a easy fix!
ReplyDeleteLove these squares! Now, now...no need to point out your boo-boo's. Did you know that the amish didnt strive for profection as their thought process is there is only one that is perfect and it is God:)
ReplyDeleteI have given people quilts and challenged them to find the mistake. Where's Waldo?
ReplyDeleteThe stars look great!
love the fabric choices-that's my style
ReplyDeleteThey are just fantastic,I love the colors you chose, lovely.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate it when you get something turned around? Top left corner...darm.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when I do that! Top left corner is turned wrong. I made 25 of these squares for a quilt I made my mom. Still working on the quilt, actually. This is one of my favorite blocks! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful- even with the oops!
ReplyDeleteI do see it, boo! If you hadn't mentioned it, no one would have ever noticed!!
ReplyDeleteYes, but all beauty has flaws.
ReplyDeleteMany religions say "Only God is perfect", so why try for perfection? Leaving the "flaw" acknowledges that you're human.
=-)
Oh! I love those squares - the pattern and the fabrics. And I didn't notice the mistake - until you pointed it out! Will you fix it?
ReplyDeleteGood eyes! I was looking at it and could not pick up the error! Love your colours and use of the crisp white to bring it all together!
ReplyDeleteSuch bright, cheery stars! I wouldn't have noticed the mistake, if you hadn't told me there was one!!~Jill
ReplyDeleteJust like when I see a "ticker tape" quilt I think of you...if we all make this wonderful block with the'Amanda Jean signature touch' we will know we are in good company. Thanks for keeping quilting real and do-able for us average quilters or is it quiltist as in the term I've been seeing around blog-land: sewist?!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I think I will get into my scraps/stash and piece a square together similar to yours. BTW, we are human, and only God is perfect. I say you keep the "mistake." It doesn't look bad whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteI love these colors, It makes me want Spring to come really bad!
ReplyDeleteEven with the mix-up in corner...still darling colors. Erinpoulsen @ yahoo. Com
ReplyDeleteYeah Well I think it looks terrific.
ReplyDeleteYep, I see it in the left block, left corner.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've heard, the Amish usually have something wrong in each of their quilts (on purpose), because only God is perfect:)
Beautiful stars! Took me a minute to spot the booboo but you know what? I'd consider it a design element, not a mistake, and leave it in! My quilting philosophy is: A mistake is merely a new design opportunity.
ReplyDeleteOh that is not a mistake it is a creative opportunity.....these are very pretty. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI finally spotted it. Just pretend you're Amish!
ReplyDeleteGood to know I'm not the only one to does that. I usually don't find them until the whole thing is finished.
ReplyDeleteNever would have noticed if yo hadn't said something!!!
ReplyDeleteThe white sets off those beautiful colors, love the block
ReplyDeleteoh dear a solid block where there shouln't be one, nature is not perfect you know, so leave it there!
ReplyDeletewow, progressive dinner and a book...what a combination
ReplyDeleteDear AmandaJean, I think that a mistake is necessary in a quilt: I dont speak english very well, but theerror is the square in the corner okìf the first block... ah, the block is very tender
ReplyDeleteonce, after critiquing my own quilt i was asked by a seasoned quilter "can you see the mistakes from a galluping horse"? love your stars!
ReplyDeletevery pretty
ReplyDeletethose are pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt's an easy fix. I like the blocks a lot. thank you
ReplyDeleteSo bright that colours!
ReplyDeleteI see it but it like others said it is an easy fix. The scrappy look is really cute. I'm gonna have to see what I can do with my scraps now. Thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteStars are great! I'll be peeking a the tutorial as soon as I leave here :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, love the fabric choice
ReplyDeleteFantastic block. I love the scrappy look and your tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI love the stars block!!!
ReplyDeleteAs a new quilter your little opps looks like something that would show up in one of my projects. I have been so inspired by all the quilting blogs out there. Thank you
ReplyDeleteCute little blocks out of fabric from Terri! Easy to fix, easier to leave!
ReplyDeleteLove the stars! and no one would ever notice the error if you didn't point it out!! I come to your blog regularly for inspiration...thanks for sticking around!
ReplyDeleteLove the stromboli recipe and the kona cotton/scrap stars!
ReplyDeleteI thought every quilt was SUPPOSED to have a mistake. Don't fix it! It will become a funny story to repeat and no one will ever notice once you get the quilt together.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the progressive dinner! Looks fun!
ReplyDeleteYes, I see it. I think that even though it isn't noticeable here until you pointed it out, it will be noticeable once you put the quilt together. Time to change it now. You'll sleep better too!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to call it an error, you can, but I would call it creative interpretation, or made with love (not a machine where it would be "perfect." Thanks for sharing.... would love to win.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a progressive dinner with such yummy fabrics and projects!
ReplyDeleteYour work in a book? It must be a great book!
ReplyDeleteLovely mistake :)
I had to look for it, but did see it. Still love it!
ReplyDeleteOops are ok. Perfection is a myth.
ReplyDeleteI think it gives the quilt personality. Makes you want to look and see if all the corners are done the same. Love it! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to find your blog! Lots of neat ideas!
ReplyDeleteTook me a sec, but I caught it. Upper left corner, left block. The kind of boo boo we all make occasionally. It's an easy fix. Thank goodness for seam rippers, huh?
ReplyDeleteI am excited for you, Amanda!!! Love you, girl.
ReplyDeleteAt least you noticed before you put the blocks together. I noticed a opps after I started to quilt the top.
ReplyDeleteI see it! Funny thing is that I almost NEVER notice that kind of thing but saw it before you even mentioned it. I just assumed you wanted it that way. It gives the block character! Thanks for your generous give away.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt and the mistake I only after it was pointed out. Easy fix.
ReplyDeletetshaw6580@yahoo.com
Caught it, but they're both beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteCaught it, top left. I like the scrappy look, I've been looking for a block like that. Looking forward to the book coming out.
ReplyDeleteI see it, but I wouldn't change it. I like things a little fun and funky. Beautiful design and I want this book!! Thank you for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI love all your own quilt tutorials. They are awesome. I am new at this and I'm so excited to reference your site and get to work.
ReplyDeleteSeems like I never find my errors until after the top is together. Good job finding (and fixing) yours earlier!
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me that the Amish deliberately put 1 mistake in their quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love the stars. I am really excited for the book
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win
It still looks pretty. Let's call it "artistic expression"
ReplyDelete
