This is my Topsy Turvy quilt. I made the top back in May or June. I finished it in August. The tutorial went up on the Moda Bake Shop in December, and here it is, January, and I'm finally blogging about it. I used to be more on top of things than this! Sheesh.
This is a super duper easy quilt to make...all you need is a layer cake, a few yards of fabric for the top and a 12 1/2'' ruler for easier construction. It's perfect for a beginner. This would be a great pattern to showcase some large loud florals, although I do like it done up in these soft and subtle colors, just for a twist. You can find the tutorial here.
By the way, doesn't my bed make a lovely quilt holder?
Very pretty. I love the slight wonkiness of the blocks. Am I actually going to be first? Weird.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty! And yes your bed makes a perfect quilt holder. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely!
ReplyDeleteThose colours would make a great unisex cot quilt too. I love the slight wonkiness of the blocks :)
I really like this quilt and have marked it on MBS as a "gotta" make :) I think your bed is an excellent quilt holder!!
ReplyDeleteHa I was just thinking that about your bed when I saw the picture! Pretty quilt :)
ReplyDeleteYour bed makes a perfect quilt hanger and the quilt is really pretty.
ReplyDeletejust cool!
ReplyDeleteBefore I saw that last line I was thinking what a magnificent bed for a quilter!!! LOVE your quilts
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt! Looks simple and fun!
ReplyDeleteNice quilt! And I do like the way you hung it on your bed rail. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's very impressive. Well done on your first finish.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt, Amandajean. Hmmm...now you've got me thinking about large print fabrics...(maybe they aren't just for pillowcases anymore!)
ReplyDeleteCute quilt. Your bed is a great prop for taking a picture of your quilts.
ReplyDeleteYour bed IS a perfect prop for the quilt. I'm also enjoying the orangey goodness in the background...
ReplyDeleteHa! Every bed should have a quilt rack footboard. Or is it every quilt should have a quiltrack footboard? Although, in your case, with soooo many quilts, you'd need to live in a barracks with rows and rows of beds. Hmmmm...barracks for the children...now, there's a concept....
ReplyDeleteSo lovely! I like how most of the blocks are subtle but then there are those few that really POP.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! And I like fast and easy. I'll have to look into the tute on MBS.
ReplyDeleteWonderful quilt! I'm going to save the tutorial. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour bed is perfect for holding quilts.
Love this. I have so many large prints that I have problems using ina way that shows them off... this is perfect. I am off to print so I don't forget about it :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I really love the plaid binding, especially cut on the bias.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Mailed off my name/gift tags yesterday! Now to finish how-to instructions! So much easier on my blog since I don't give myself a word limit! I'll see you 4 weeks from tomorrow!!! Yeah!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt and yes your bed makes a great quilt holder But I would love to see the quilt you have on your bed. Love the look of what we can see.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does make a perfect quilt holder. How lucky!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt! Seeing the tutorial on the Bake Shop made me wish I had a layer cake to start piecing. Such a fun way to showcase a selection of your favorite prints.

I, too, was peaking at the glimpse of the quilt on your bed. : )
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see this made in Kaffe's. It would be spectacular!
ReplyDeleteMy question is a bit different, how often do you change the quilt on your bed?
ReplyDeleteI went to the link you posted and that quilt was made in 2007. The quilt on my bed was inspired by the bento box quilt that you made sometime later.
By the way, I love, love, love the orange of your quilt. Some day I'm gonna make me an orange quilt.
And, I do like the quilt hanging on the end of your bed. Very pretty and simple.
I absolutely love the simplicity of this quilt, it is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of you bed, why is it not wearing the bridge from blue carpet to dark furniture bento box quilt?
ReplyDeleteHonestly I dont think you have ever made a quilt that I didnt like!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes- a quilt should always be on the end of your bed!
Didn't realize the quilt holder was your bed until you mentioned it! It does make a great quilt holder. The quilt is pretty and looks like it is an easy to make one. I am working on a Catheral Window quilt for grandson who is getting married Dec. 31. This is my 4th one to make. One grandson got a Eureka because I did not have time for the Catheral Windows. Now I need to make ME a Eureka quilt!
ReplyDeleteSometimes a simple design and an added bit of wonkiness is all that's needed to make a beautiful quilt. I love the colours in this one. It's just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how happy it makes me to see you posting "old news" since I'm only now getting around to wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! I'm thrilled to read what you wrote a couple posts back about your running and your weight loss. Good for you and your husband. I forced myself to become a runner 5 years ago and dropped 15 pounds that haven't come back. I never thought I'd say it when I started, but I love running - it's amazing how much it improved my life physically and mentally. Stick with it and enjoy all the benefits of healthier living!
ReplyDeleteLove it! :) I am going to pick up a layer cake today and make one for my mom who just had foot surgery!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
Showed this picture to a group of students today. They were impressed.
ReplyDeleteAmanda Jean, taking the leap and getting topsy turvy with your suggestion on making this quilt using the big flower prints! Havent known what to do with them, but I love em, and since some were my Grandmothers and a couple came from my BFF at sewtakeahike, they're special and deserve a little spunk to set em off! Thank you for your wonderful blog!
ReplyDeleteInJoy!

Love it! And on a side note, I am getting a new machine for my birthday and I am wondering what machines other quilters use and love. Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteAnnie@thepurcell.com
It´s so lovely, I like it´s simplicity. But what makes it is the quilting! Do you use a Long arm?
ReplyDeleteHi AmandaJean. I loved the simplicity of this pattern when I saw it posted at Moda's site. I printed it out & made it over a weekend. I had a hard time choosing which layer cake I wanted to use but I ended up using an older one I had on hand. (Strawberry Lemonade). What a fun quilt. Now I need to get it basted & quilted. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow, it is stunning. I love it.
ReplyDeleteQuestion about the quilt on your bed. I'm DYING to make an orange quilt for my bed .... is this quilt showcased on your blog somewhere? I want to see how you matched the colors up and what your pillows look like ... :) Thanks for all of your inspiration! I don't know how you do it!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I love the colors.
