Today's the day! I fly out to Colorado for the retreat this evening. I've worked very hard over the past month and a half getting samples ready and preparing for my classes, so I think I'm ready. I'm quite excited!! Be prepared for quilt overload when I get back. :)
After looking at the stack, I DO use a lot of white in my quilts. Oh, my.
Can't wait to see you!
ReplyDeleteHow often do you teach at retreats? I live in Indiana - do you ever come down here or nearby - Ohio/Illinois?
ReplyDeleteFor scrapbooking, I read that "white space" is a very good thing- gives the eye some place to rest between going from one thing to another- I iamagine that applies to quilts, too. And they highly recommend that you do some lay-outs with lots of white.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!! I hope you have a great time and meet other great quilters!
ReplyDeleteHave a good time! I truly wish I were going...YOU WILL BE GREAT!
ReplyDeleteHave fun! That's quite a beautiful stack you've got going there!
ReplyDeletewhite is wonderful-don't let anyone tell you otherwise! have a great time! come back to blogland refreshed!!!
ReplyDeleteThere are few things better than a quilt retreat. Have a great time.

ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderfull. Have a good time!
ReplyDeleteLove the orange too. I've kinda got a thing for orange these days.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Have a great trip!!
ReplyDeleteI also use a lot of white. On my first queen size quilt, I used white for the backing and my mom said "people don't do that".
ReplyDeleteI hope someday I have a beautiful stack of quilts like this!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one gorgeous stack of quilts...love the white! I've discovered I need the open spaces in my quilts...and the white seems to provide that perfectly!
ReplyDeleteHave fun and safe travels!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting! Wish I was joining you. Have a fabulous time and don't leave out any details when you tell us all about it.
ReplyDeleteHappy sewing!

ReplyDeleteYou use white because it looks good with those crisp colors. If you were a Thimbleberries gal you would probably use something different.
It's okay to use white - you're probably using my sharel I almost never use it. I prefer cream or darker solids.

My 5 year old has insisted we make one for "each" of her dolls!!! :) I'm so glad she likes it. It was fun! and fast! ;)
Thanks and Love from Texas! ~bonnie
You say white like it's a bad thing! I think the white really makes the colors pop, and I would never have thought to use it before. I tend to always use a color that matches the entire quilt. Can't wait to see all the quilty goodness!

There are 82 comments before mine, so I'm sure it will blend in with theirs. I have been inspired with your use of white and open spaces on the fronts and backs of your quilts. I also love the modern sensibility of your designs. What class are you teaching?
ReplyDeleteI am SO JEALOUS! I asked for your retreat as my bday gift when you first announced it (my bday is Sunday). Since I'm not flying out anywhere, apparently I didn't get it :-( I did get EQ6 though, from my dad so I can't wait to dig into it. HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!! I can't wait to see the results and TONS of pics!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about you all week in anticipation of this. I hope you have a wonderful retreat, rock your workshops, and enjoy some time to yourself. You're going to be amazing.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time. Those people are lucky to get some of your time.
ReplyDeleteYour pile of quilts looks shit. I have seen loads of those at Ikea on offer and always wondered about the people who are obsessed with them. Reading this blog and all the comments has cleared up a lot for me.
ReplyDeleteGood luck. Have fun!!! Your quilts are beautiful. You will be a hit at the retreat. Wish I was there!!!Bonnie in Tx.

ReplyDeleteThey look wonderful have a safe and fun trip.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you pointed out all the white ... it explains perfectly why your quilts ae so restful.
ReplyDeleteAmanda Jean...you should publish your own book!!! A gal I met at quilt market..paid $1.25 a book...sold then for $6.25 wholesale...I think that is what Gudrun does and Heather Mulder Peterson...
ReplyDeleteI don't know if people do this to you often (and I'm aware it's a little crazy), but I've had a certain fabric on my mind for a while.
ReplyDeleteCan't remember who makes it or anything, but it's the blue square on your gray quilt, at the top of this beautiful stack!
Could you point me in the right direction, if you can even remember where you got it?
Thanks! -Mamalia
Wow!!! That's a good news. Good luck and enjoy!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are stunning. White color is cool and for me I can have a peaceful mind while looking to light colors especially those white ones. Keep posting more of your work. Have a nice day!
