it makes me giddy. it really does.
to prove that the first pair wasn't a fluke, here's my second finished pair.
my husband thinks i'm nuts.
i just think it proves that i have a high tolerance for tedium, which comes in handy in my current profession, stay at home mom.

I like the socks.
If you like tedium, you could come over and help me rip stitches...I have lots to do because I am removing at least a border on my quilt top.
They're completely addicting, aren't they? Especially those self-striping yarns. I went through a crazy sock-knitting phase a few years ago. There's nothing better for waiting on flight delays, long lines, watching Sponge Bob with the kids...
Beautiful socks! I love the striped blue ones.
I'm completely jealous. I need to find a sock-knitting class.
i love knitting socks! my husband also thinks i'm nuts but doesn't complain when there's a new pair of chunky wool boot socks under the xmas tree for him every year.
Socks are a great activity for a stay-at-home mom because they are so portable!
Yeah!! Good for you!!
It's probably a good thing your husband thinks you're nuts ~ then you don't have to knit socks for him. Once he tries a pair he won't be able to get enough of them...
Sock knitting is way too fun. Way too fun. But be warned, sweaters are just as fun, if not more!
I love your socks! I was going to say I was really partial to the red pair, but then the blues started talking to me...they are both beautiful. I started a pair 2 nights ago. I have to have something in my hand while I watch TV with the kids or I go nuts. Knitting socks sounded like a great idea. It's been fun! I'm only half done with one sock.
I love knitting socks. I am completely addicted. They are so portable. Hard to take your quilt along. g
great!!!! i love the red one!!
Your socks are beautiful! Good job. And they feel so nice when you're wearing them, don't they.
Welcome to the club!! Just wait until you start buying more sock yarn than you could ever knit into socks in your lifetime. Or are you already there?
i love knitting socks... i actually think it's so much fun... wait til you start knitting lace socks:)
you should go over to ravelry... do you have an account?
I'm envious ~ love the first pair! I wonder how they will wear compared to commercially produced socks. Enjoy your colorful tootsies!
When I finished my first pair, my husband asked me why I'd bother knitting some when I could just go out and buy some. Men. But good on you! Very nicely done :) I have to say they're quite addictive hehe
Those are so cute, I would like to learn to knit.
I LOVE them! Are they self striping? What great yarn!
You definitely aren't nuts! I can't wait to start making socks. They look great. I love the first pair!
cute tootsies!!! :-)
your not nuts, your good! wished I could do that....i have no clue how to knit.
woo-hoo Amanda Jean. Great job! I just picked up the knitting needles again. I have not knitted since I was 13 (which is a VERY long time ago) Thanks to youtube!
Great socks! love the colors...
I too casted on a pair...but it's not going as great.
They are so cute. I love them. Good for you. Knitting is tedious to me so I'm glad my daughter loves it.
Your socks are too cute. I'm a sock knitter too! Almost everyone in my family got hand knit socks for Christmas last year. This year it's hats and mittens. Knitting socks is such a portable project and the yarns available are gorgous!
Love the socks. I have never done the socks. But I have done a smashing pair of opera gloves which go all the way to the elbow. I gave one to my daughter for Christmas and the second one the next Christmas. Didn't plan it that way I just wasn't finished in time. Now we'll see if she wears them or if they are just a really cool pair of gloves in her drawer. Either way is fine by me.
Kudos! They are fun, aren't they? After I turned my first heel, I felt like a "real" knitter.
I am totally doing a happy dance over here! Wonderful Socks! Just Wonderful!
Yes! My pairs of wool knit socks are the most comfortable and get tons of use every winter.
Hooray for you! I adore the yarn you chose for the second pair. I am totally addicted to striped handknit socks. Seriously. My guys think I'm nuts, too. I guess we're a pair of nutty sock knitters. LOL
Fun! I love your last line there - SO TRUE! When do your boys go back to school?
I knit socks and other easily portable items exactly because I DON'T have a high tolerance for tedium. I can't stand doing nothing, so I knit - waiting in line, during a long conference call, and basically whenever I have to wait on others.
Cute socks! Knitting is a fun and a handy hobby. I am working on a baby blanket. :)
oh, amandajean! they are perfect. that is something i am too afraid to try. i love them!
Try out www.yarnharlot.com. She's a crazy knitter and author, she loves socks, too. Beautiful job by the way.
they look brill to me!
I have only recently finished my first sock - which I started in January.... Never pick a over the knee cable knit as a first sock project! However, I have made so many mittens it's almost embarassing. I'd say they number in the triple digits. But they are well-loved and well-used. If you love your socks, you are not nuts.
They're awesome! I've got two pair started and yarn for two in the wings. Do you use DPNs? I just discovered HiyaHiya 9" circular needles which I LOVE!!!! I thought I would hate them, but they're much easier on my hands. Let me know and I'll send you some. Kathy is looking for your plane ticket!!! Yeah!!!
this puts you in a totally different league! sock maven!
Now I want to learn how to make socks!!! I LOVE THEM!!! GREAT JOB!!!! I should have taken that class with you! Oh well. Live and learn.
WOW! I am impressed! I've considered learning how to knit socks, but really already have more than enough projects/crafts. I quilt by day and knit/crochet in the evening and while traveling. Lots of projects! Oh, and I am way, way behind on scrapbooking!
Some day I probably will add socks as I do find myself looking at sock yarns!
Have fun making socks!
Karen
You are talented!!! I want a pair in my Christmas stocking!
I don't particularly like knitting socks BUT I find I can't stand store bought socks anymore so I've always got at least one pair of socks on the needles all the time. Make your husband a pair of handknit socks and he'll never make fun of you again for knitting socks. The bad part is you'll have to take time from knitting socks for you to knit him a pair every so often.
i really wish i could knit!! it has been on my list of things to learn for way too long! your socks look so fun and comfy!
i'm having a great giveaway on my blog! you should hop on over. :)
I'm waiting for the next blog "Crazy Mom Knits"
LOL
Andi :-)
High tolerance for tedium...LOVE THAT! Mind if I quote you?
When people ask me what I do for a living, I tell them that I am a professional wiper. I wipe faces, butts, tables, you name it.
Love your blog!!
oh, they are gorgeous. Congrats!!
your socks are great! I have not talent of knitting!
I love the blue pair!
Nice sockies!
When I asked my Dad to teach me to knit, he said, "Why don't you try socks - they're an easy 1st project."
What do you think? Agree? Disagree?
Wait until you knit HIM a pair of socks! He won't think you're nuts then!!!
Aaarrggghhhh knitting! I love the *act* of knitting, and am very good at it, but my brain is not nimble enough to follow a pattern. Oh well, that just gives me more money to spend on fabric!
Your socks are gorgeous!
I've been following your blog for a while but this is my first time commenting.
COOL socks! Don't you find knitting relaxing? Knitting was my first love before I discovered quilting. Even though I am passionate about quilting and would never give it up, I have to admit that sitting still and knitting IS more relaxing.
Keep those creative juices flowing!
Great job matching the stripes - I never bother with that bit! Knitting is fun and relaxing to me and I really enjoy socks as an easily portable project for waits.
Cheers!
Beautiful!
Too cute! I've only made some teeny tiny socks, never grown up ones. The needles are just so TINY! I'm afraid my attention span just won't last.
lovely socks; I think you're crazy too! I love those white cotton gym socks--so comfy. I just can't quite get used to the ones knit with soft yarns, and I'm so hard on them :). Your socks look absolutely fabulous though!
Everybody is knitting socks - even my own local craft group. All I need is to run for those doublepointed needles to start (which will take some time since I'm already busted from the fabric stashing earlier this year).
ha ha Your hubby will be begging for his own socks come winter! They look so warm, comfy and cosy!! I'm a stay at home mom to...no wait!!! I don't have any kids!!! ha ha ha You'd think I would have all the time in the world to work on my projects. But no....there never seems to be enough hours in the day!!!
Love the socks. Aren't they fun to make? And pretty too. xo
And I wish I could too.....
they look great and what satisfaction to have made them yourself.
I love knitting socks and sock yarn is not stash...
Hahahaha! And WooHoo!!! They look fantastic -- Congratulations!!!!
I snorted at your tedium comment. True! Cute socks.
your toes will be toasty cozy and stylish this fall + winter! Congrats :)
Congratulations and welcome to the club - be warned though, THEY ARE ADDICTING!
I knit my first pair about 3 years ago and never looked back. They are now all I wear. and the very best part is THE TURNING OF THE HEEL!
Congrats again!
Not silly at all, I need to sign up for a class to make socks!
I am self-taught when it comes to knitting. Have not tried socks yet but I do have the needles, yarn and a pattern waiting to go!!!
So cute!
Those look so cozy... Can I have a pair?? LOL I need to learn to knit, and then I can have beautiful socks like you :) And maybe some for the hubby, then maybe he won't go through socks so often LOL Great job!
Oh I LOVE those blue striped socks! You should knit up 100 or so, then post a garage sale day on your blog. I'll come and buy 10 pairs or so!
Now you need to make a quilt to match the socks!
Peggi
I want to be a stay at home mom...so jealous! maybe then my socks would be done someday!
I love them!
Great socks. One way to convert a husband to the joys of sock knitting is to make him a pair. My hubby loves his hand knit socks! the only problem with that plan is that he'll want more hand knit socks!
Totally addictive is sock knitting. Spotlight now have a self-striping yarn now for $12/ball - haven't washed them yet - but compared to the german wool that was around firt, a cheap alternative.
congratulations! I love the stripey yarn on the second pair
I love the socks!!! I'm pretty new at the sock knitting myself, but just love it! Thank you for sharing.
Sock kitting is a way of fun. I like to do this.

Very well done, The most I can do is knit a scarf, a very plain scarf. Someday I would love to learn to something else.
Love the "high tolerance for tedium" comment. You do have a lot of patience. I think that's why I am not cut out to be a sock knitter. These are awesome - good for you for learning a new skill.
I love the socks! Keep up the good work but don't give up the quilting for the knitting!
I am about to start on my first pair of socks - taking them to France as a holiday knitting project.
this is possibly the BEST thing I've read today! :D I'm in the same boat - only I haven't finished a pair yet - but I'm getting there! ;)
thanks for the vote of confidence! LOL ~cheers!
Thank you for sharing this great
post with us....
I loved it.
Good one .I look forward to see
lots of posts of beautiful work.

I have a pair made from the very same yarn as the bottom pair. I call them my Caribbean socks - they remind me of the many colours of Caribbean water. Great job on the knitting!
And You continue to inspire me with all of your quilting...My dream is to have a full quilt cupboard one day. Congratulations!
From a pin to an anchor. Great work.
amanda - I am a quilter sock knitter fanatic too!! I am currently unemployed - my children are in college - so I do it to fill in time when I am not quilting or looking for a job. Have you tried knitting both socks at the same time on two circular kneedles?? EEEHAA!!! You don't get single sock syndrome and people ask you all the time what you are doing!! Glad to share direction links if you need them. Mary
