yesterday a friend came over to learn how to quilt. it was our first session, so we picked fabrics and a design for her quilt. i loved the fabrics and the idea (which has been in my head for months) so much that i decided to make one, too. i hope that BOTH quilts turn out well, because that is a whole lot of pretty fabric that i just cut up. :) even after all the quilts i've made, i go through moments of doubt when making each one. that being said, i have high hopes for this one.
this brings my work in progress number to 13! somebody help me.
It's gonna be a great one!! As are all 13! You finish quilts constantly, so it's GOOD that you have so many to work on!
ReplyDeleteit'll be beautiful, i love the fabric selection!
ReplyDeleteIf you only have 13 wip then your doing good. The blues and greens look great. Hurry and finish I want to see it.
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived near you so I could come have sewing lessons too!
ReplyDeleteYour quitlting is amazing! How do you juggle some amny quilts at once. Do you cut several projects out at one time and have them on hand ready to sew when you have the time? What is the secret, besides having a great stash! I love you fabric choices! Diane
ReplyDeleteVery pretty colors. Thanks for being real. We all go through those doubtful moments when we slice up those gorgeous fabrics.
ReplyDeleteYou are starting to sound like me with all your WIPs. LOL Just keep at it.
ReplyDeleteLove the colours
ReplyDeletethat is gorgeous fabric...i dont think that you can go wrong. I can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteI have been frequenting your blog for the past few months. your work is inspirational. -Sharon
i think this one is going to be great! i'm loving that color combo!!
ReplyDeleteFun! I'm excited to see more :) Encouraging the quilting addiction to a newby is SO fun!
ReplyDeletei've been reading your blog for months. LOVE IT... keep it up. You blog actually inspired me to make my first quilt (simple pinwheel baby quilt for my friend). Thank you! As for your 13th quilt... it's beautiful. it's a wonderful combo.
ReplyDeleteI love them next to each other. I only have two quilts going right now, and that's one more than my usual rule. lol. But I don't finish them as quickly as you do.
ReplyDelete13 in progress is good...as of today I'm up to 21!!! I LOVE your new quilt...maybe I'll have to start #22!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was that friend! I would love to have some one on one quilting lessons with you. I am still working on the star quilt though. Slowly but surely.
ReplyDeleteIt's what makes you feel good and happy and you do it so well. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYou are so wrong you're right. Lucky 13... quilt on, woman!
ReplyDeleteShould we send out the quilt police? Those colors are great!
ReplyDeleteoh lordy lady! I have 3 WIPs and I thought I was bad! I guess now I can allow myself to start a new one. :)
ReplyDeleteJenny
Love the colours! Where do you get all this gorgeous fabric?!
ReplyDeleteWell maybe 13 is your lucky number?
ReplyDeleteThe avocado green makes this so happy!
I love these colors.
ReplyDeleteAs for the WIPs, I think you just need to make a decision that, for every new project your start, you have to complete 2 WIPs. :o)
Will the finished quilt incorporate both sizes of squares? I can't wait to see it done! Great colors, as usual. Like several others here you inspired me to start quilting and since I discovered your blog about 2 months ago, my sewing machine has been getting such a workout! You know you'll finish them all, so don't sweat it!
ReplyDeleteooh that fabric is gorgeous!! it's so nice to hear that someone who's been at it for a while still has doubts about their choices. especially from someone who seems to make tones of fabulous choices. so many i wonder how you keep doing it! makes me feel better!
ReplyDeleteLucky friend, beautiful fabric. I'm so envious of your flea market fancy stash...
ReplyDeleteLove the colours. I will be anxious to see how you will use two sizes of squares.
ReplyDeletediane,
ReplyDeletei have quilts at various stages. i have 4 tops done, another one is in the quilting stage, and the rest are being pieced. i just work on whichever i please and let the rest of them sit until i get the urge to work on it. i don't have a bunch cut out...as i hate the cutting step. no secrets...just a lot of insanity. :)
aj
hannah,
ReplyDeletethis was all fabric from my stash. most of it came from various quilt shops.
aj
tara,
ReplyDeleteyes, the quilt will incorporate both sizes of squares...and at least one other different sized square-or maybe 2 more, depending on how it looks. i'm designing as i go. :)
aj
Your blues and greens are great! I also like the different sized squares together and the design as you go comment;) I think that helps to keep your projects unique;)
ReplyDeleteHoly Moly, 13?! I though having 5 was crazy! :) But as always, another pretty quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that you always have the BEST fabrics??? I love these - the blues and greens are "me"! I can never find stuff like this!
ReplyDeleteOh, they are great, love the colors. I would never say how many projects I have going on, a girl has to have some secrets! LOL Danielle

LOVE the fabric! I say it is what you have done that counts...don't you agree? Go & Piece!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the dark side of quilting, girl. (Muah-ha-ha-ha!) I cannot help you. I have more WIPs than I can count. This one is irresistible as well. Great colors -- more masculine. I've been impressed with your lack of pink recently. I need to follow suit. We love to see all your stuff, so chances are, we're just going to encourage you to keep going down this road. = )
ReplyDeleteLooks GREAT!!! I'm sure I'll be trying it myself real soon!:)
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely colors! I don't want to count mine...nope, don't want to know!
ReplyDeleteI have at least that many works in progress, its sad that I have that many. I just get side tracked with new ones to much. I like the fabrics in your quilt.
ReplyDeleteWe are here to facilitate, if that is what you mean by 'help'? You're doing great, keep your chin up!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'm intrigued by the different sizes of squares...
ReplyDeleteDon't make me count... I don't think it's as high as 13, but if I counted everything it might be worse than I think.
from one addict to another...
ReplyDeletejust take one day at a time!!
i love this so far. there's something so timeless and pleasing about quilts made up of squares.
ReplyDeletealso- what a lucky friend you have!
x
I just love helping someone to learn how to quilt for the first time! Your quilt is a perfect one for that.
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how comforting it is to hear that even an amazing quilter such as yourself has moments of doubt! I love the way this is turning out just like everyone else who commented :) It's gonna be so cute and if it's what I'm seeing it is a fantastic idea... if it's not I'm sure it'll still be fantastic but I think I'll have to try what I'm thinking of! Have Fun!
ReplyDeleteHey Aj! Don't ask me for help!! You know my little secret and now I started not only the class quilt but the spiderweb now too!
ReplyDeleteCheck my blog @:
www.coffeebeansdailies.blogspot.com
Give me a day or a couple of hours (I"m nine hours ahead of you, I think??) to see mine!!
Take care. Alia
13? That is so unlike you. I bet you're getting antsy :-)
ReplyDeleteI just love that color selection! Somehow it is very springy even thought there aren't many yellows or pinks. 13 ain't bad at all. I have more than that and I've only been collecting them for 5 years! Tomorrow is my Dash to Slash my Stash sewing day. You can join me if you want, just visit me on my blog http://sewgoodsewfar.wordpress.com and let me know you're participating. You're so good at stash slashing anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnna
I love those fabrics!!! The colors are so beautiful. Your blog always inspires me.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at #13 in progress, I have decided not to count any more. I just have different piles in progress. Isn't such a daunting task that way. Have fun and your quilt start is very nice!
ReplyDeleteLizzie
I really love the fabric choices on this one! I have to ask you though to maybe show us how to square up a quilt. My blocks never seem to meet just perfectly at the corners. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see how this quilt turns out. You are a quilting goddess :)
ReplyDeleteOnly 13?! I wish. I quit counting! Some quilt I don't complete - they will be finished into gifts but it is easier to store a quilt top than a completed quilt - less space required! - Until I know who it is going to. keep up the great work - I love looking at your projects, the color are so refreshing!
ReplyDeleteWith those colours you don't need to doubt anything! It's looking beautiful already.
ReplyDeleteOh, such pretty colors. You really have an eye. :-)
ReplyDeleteThose thoughts go through my mind when I cut up fabric as well, but it is always worth it in the end. I love the blue/green combination, it is my most favorite. Your fabrics are so bright and pretty. And good job enabling others! That is what makes quilting fun I think.
ReplyDeleteGreat colours ~ super combination of patterns ~ loving the different sized squares!!
ReplyDelete13, it's just a number.... lol
You create gorgeous quilts, many of them. :)
13 looks like beautiful number!
ReplyDeleteLove the fabrics and really looking forward to seeing this progress.
Lovely fabrics and the colors are gorgeous. It's going to be a beautiful quilt. I admire you so much for getting a lot done in a short time :D
ReplyDeletei love these colors. so pretty.
ReplyDeletewish i could help, but i have the same problem. can't wait to see the quilts, of course they are going to be great!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! and I just love the fact that your friend has someone to learn with! The colors are nice! 13 projects in progress?! Man...I can't hardly stand to have 2 going at the same time
ReplyDeleteOh yes, it will be gorgeous! I've been collecting lime green and grey after seeing another quilt you had made awhile back (I think it was you!) I loved the two colors together, but the added turquoise, well, let's just say that now I'll be shopping for some turquoise, too.
ReplyDeleteThose are great fabrics!
ReplyDeletei was sent a link to your blog by a friend a few weeks ago- now i'm hooked! i've spend a small fortune on fabric and have been spending hours on the sewing machine!!! i have 2 WIP and 2 more in the planning stages
ReplyDeletethankyou for all the inspiration
Great name! I know exactly what you mean about doubting a project after you've cut the fabric, but this one looks like it's going to be a winner.
ReplyDeleteI love the selection of fabrics and the idea of incorporating different sized squares. Looking forward to seeing this one finished!
ReplyDeletesuch pretty fabrics...i have stash envy.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, don't count them! They are like rabbits! They will multiply! I gave my UFO's to the local grandma's club! No more UFO's and no more guilt!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe you doubt yourself at the beginning, being the pro that you are :) But I think it's normal. It's going to be a gorgeous guilt!
ReplyDeleteFun fabrics! I love green and blue. How fun that you have a quilting student
ReplyDeleteI love those colors!
