I'm declaring it small projects week here at crazy mom quilts. I find that my list of things to make "someday" has gotten extremely long. Some things have been waiting for a year or more. I also find that I would usually work on a quilt rather than a smaller project. Anyone else like that? This week I hope to make some progress on my list.
Today's project is a door stop from Lotta's book Simple Sewing. I checked out this book from my library last summer, made the pattern and that's as far as I got with it. Until this morning. It only took about an hour, and that included interfacing everything. Of course now I'm wondering what took me so long to make it. :) I used popcorn kernels and fiberfill (so it wouldn't get too heavy) to fill it. The fabric is Moda Cherries Jubilee. I love this fabric! As much as I am tempted to make a few more of these, I'm going to move on to the next thing on my list.

Lovely ... did you do anything special at the corners ..it can be so fiddly doing the inset seam thing.
ReplyDeleteYou are smart to use the library. There are usually only a couple projects I would do from a book, and paying $16 is too much for that. I go every week with my kids, but never get around to get books for myself. next time I will.
ReplyDeleteDoor stop is a great idea. I could use a few. I always get nervous when my kids start slamming on the door.
Next small project on my list is the display board from your tutorial. I have made one for the kitchen, and the kids are waiting impatiently for theirs with a stack of artwork to put on it.

ReplyDeleteFunny, I'm the exact opposite as of late, opting for more small, quick, easy to finish projects and totally avoiding quilts. Someday I'm sure I'll circle back around...I mean I have all that stash!

Hey, I'm with you. I thought I was all alone. I almost always make quilts, bed size mostly. That's how I started out. I just try and try those small projects like wall hangings etc but don't feel satisfied, like I haven't "accomplished" anything. I dunno...but then again, I have more fabric than time. I just feel like I hate to 'waste' my nice fabric on small stuff or placements/tablerunners that will get soiled.

ReplyDeleteI broiled tilapia today...it had been in my freezer for at least 4 months...it's always such a good feeling to clean up, catch up, or get-going on ANYTHING! I also felted some sweaters again. I might make a wool blanket...when I get around to it! Love the dots, Amanda! Which door are you going to "stop?"

I am the same. I go down to the basement to sew some curtains for my naked kitchen windows, and come up having rearranged my stash and cut out squares for a quilt. Its a sickness, I tell you.

Maybe your small projects week will inspire me to actually make something from it. Probably not the cute bag that you made (you referenced interfacing... too complicated for me) but something!
