I was successful.
So I thought I would try it again this year.
I only made it 20 days.
First off, I bought some simplicity charm packs. I had a moment of panic thinking, "What if they are all sold out and I miss out buying some of this beautiful fabric forever???" Oh, I shudder to think of that happening! My plan is to make another quilt much like my Christmas charm quilt with these. They came from the fabric shack.
I went to Joann's last night and I walked out with about 24 yards of fabric.
(I'm finding that it's better to NOT caluclate these things...)
The reds and blue will go into this quilt. I think.
I'm planning new bed quilts for my boys.
They are very excited.
They are from the Darla line by Tanya Whelan. They are delicious!!!! I purchased these with a gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop that I received from one of my blog readers. Isn't that the sweetest thing ever? Thank you so so much, Edith!!!
Now please excuse me. I have a LOT of sewing to do...
Do you give photography classes also?:) Your pictures look so good! Makes me want more fabric. If that is even possible. ;) It was great to see you today. I'm having some stromboli and dreaming of more quilts!:)
ReplyDeleteI had that same cherry fabric, and our JoAnn's was all out the last time I was in there. I wanted more! I will have to try again:)
ReplyDeleteI know it is hard to make movies. But if you ever decide to do a video tutorial. Will you show us you cutting your fabric for a quilt? That would totally rock!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics! The orange and grey look so good together! Way to go on 20 days with out fabric shopping!
ReplyDeleteYou are not weak you are a quilter!!
ReplyDeleteI have that very same cherry fabric!
ReplyDeleteI want to be weak like you… then i can live without regrets and the feeling of I-have-just-missed-the-best-pattern-ever.
ReplyDeleteThat nine patch is going to be darling! I agree, charm packs are VERY hard to resist. They're just so "charming". LOL Sorry.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the boys' new quilts.
love your new additions! 20 days is better than 1 or 2 :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Crazy Train, that would rock! I often think there has to be some secret to cutting that I don't know!
ReplyDeleteNot weak; just very creative. If you see it, you must buy it. I agree with you there.
ReplyDeleteAnd the little cherry fabric is soo sweet! The polka dots too. Great addition to your quilt!
Those charms are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your confession, I don't feel so bad now about buying those 4 cross stitch kits!
If you are weak then I'm a total weakling. I haven't bought fabric stash this year {yet}... but I've enhanced my yarn stash a wee (huge) bit. Sales, what can I say ~ they've been amazing!
ReplyDeleteYour Charms are very pretty. I picked up 4 packages of charms to make a quilt just like your Christmas quilt last year. It's still in queue... lol
oh my goodness I love, your fabrics
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Moda simplicity! I made a cute table topper out of my charm pack. I also love the fabric in the last pic...I am a sucker for red and blue. :)
ReplyDeleteI say if you're going to fall, you may as well fall hard! Besides, you're buying all the fabric I can't buy -- so it's like you're buying for two. = )
ReplyDeleteYou are not the only weak person around! I recently quilted my very first quilt and I KNOW I have a new favorite hobby. I am also weak. (I've always known I would never collect a paycheck if I worked in a fabric shop!)
ReplyDeleteThat is hysterical. I love it!
ReplyDeletehey...about not buying more fabric...well, it's never too late to try..try again....and again...and again........and again.................wonderful fabric eye candy..you made some wondrfull choices!
ReplyDeletegorgeous fabrics!
ReplyDeletei don't think i could have gone a month withoug purchasing any fabrics!! 20 days is great!!
ReplyDeletelove, love, love the darla fabrics too!! i've been hooked on them ever since doing tasha's quilt for baby ava! :)
I have never bought that much fabric in one sitting.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally envious.
To hell with resolutions. Bring on the fabric goodness!!!
Andi :-)
Oh, I just love buying new fabric and in wonderfully large quantities...makes you feel so warm and tingly inside :o) I love the orange and grey together!! So boyish too!
ReplyDeleteIt's ok Amanda, you buy as much fabric as you want. We all have those feelings of "I may need more of this fabric in the future ~ I better buy the whole bolt". LOL Have fun and I can't wait to see what you do with your fabric!
ReplyDeleteYou are not weak, you are normal - at least by my standards! lol
ReplyDeleteAh! That reminds me I really need to get the charm packs for cotton blossoms in the daughter colorway. I want to make a quilt like your Christmas charm quilt out of them.
ReplyDeletenot weak!!!
ReplyDeletejust addicted!!!
hahaha.
love the new fabrics!!!
:D
What yummy fabrics! Can't wait to see what you do with them!~Smiles~Tam!
ReplyDeleteIt's okay - you are among friends - in fact to make you feel better - I am going to go and buy some fabric too! It's the least I can do - I see that cherry fabric at Joann's every time I go and I just might get some too!
ReplyDeleteHey, there's always next month (better to do a buying ban in February anyway since it's the shortest month). I am SO excited to see what you're going to do for your boys with the orange fabric. Will you use the gray with it? I LOVE that color combo.
ReplyDeleteHow funny, I feel the same way too sometimes. Am I going to miss out? Then there is that undying sense of urgency to hunt that perfect fabric down. Can't wait to see all your projects.
ReplyDeleteI had the same sort of resolution, and if possible, it seems I've gone even more fabric crazy lately. I hate that feeling of missing out on fabric! In fact, I'm on my way to Joann's now - I need batting (but that doesn't count, right?!)
ReplyDeleteLovely stashes of fabric, especially those in the second and last picture... yummy!!
ReplyDeleteGirl, you gotta stay out of those shops! You gotta resist temptation and you are so weak.
ReplyDeleteWeak weak weak. Oh well, it's just so much fun to be weak, right?
i'm trying to live my addiction through you! haven't been since before christmas...killing me...just killing me.
ReplyDeleteYour weakness only makes me feel better about myself. Thanks!
ReplyDelete24 yards?!?!?!?!? Oh my! That's a lot of quilt-making, friend.
ReplyDelete(It's all lovely, btw.)
You are not weak at all! Its just an inspiration as a quilter. Cheering for you! I cant wait to see what you will make with those fabrics. Have fun as u sew!
ReplyDeletei'm trying so hard NOT to buy fabric the rest of the month, but when it's cold outside i start clicking away and convince myself I NEED it. I love orange too...and grey is a new favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics!! we are quilters. have you ever been to the Fabric Shack? I went there once and OMG.. it was so hard to decide on what to buy,I wanted it all. thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing...I'm just starting to dabble in Quilting. Your quilts are so beautiful. I've only recently found your blog and love it.
ReplyDeleteI made a quilt inspired by your "snippets". Take a look on my new blog: parkave-sweatshop.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOOH! love the orange. my favorite color too! yeah, I can't do the don't buy fabric thing... Everytime I try I get somethimg online or int he mail saying SALE!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm telln' ya, there shoudl be a 12 step group for FABRIC Over buyers Anonymous... FOBA's! ha!
O.K., buying 24 yards of fabric isn't that bad but what I want to know, is what does your sewing room look like? Actually what does your Fabric stash now look like. You've seen the sticker before "She who dies with the most fabric wins", well that could be us according to my family. Have fun.
ReplyDeletelove all your new acquisitions, especially the orange and gray fabric. Have fun creating!
ReplyDeleteAck! I love that green print in your Darla fabrics -- I didn't see it when I got mine -- I'll have to be on the lookout. If you must be weak, at least you did it in a great way LOL!
ReplyDeleteDon't I feel ya! I'm not doing to good with my "more fabric out than in" resolution. Love these choices, though, I can see why you couldn't resist them!
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous fabrics, Amandajean. I'm excited to see what your talented hands make with them. I'm lusting over the Darla fabrics... oh, the aqua and red are calling to me.;o)
ReplyDeleteHappy Quilting!!!!
I have the same problem...fabric love. I want some Simplicity Charms or layer cakes as well. I keep looking at them but I resist. Now if I had some cash in hand that would not have to be tracked by hubby and the credit card companies....
ReplyDeleteLove your selections and I can't wait to see your quilts.
Lovely fabric! Can't wait to see what you make.
ReplyDeleteI'm nuts for that Darla Fabric too. I can hardly wait to see what you do with it. I want to make bags with it.
ReplyDeleteI hope this recent splurge wasn't prompted by my little nudge toward that great sale??
ReplyDeleteI've been on a major fabric shopping spree lately and I MUST STOP!! I have been posting about all of it on my blog and I still have tons of pictures still to show!!
I absolutely love your fabric. I am really into aqua and red lately. I was even thinking of changing my kitchen to aqua walls but I already have red, so I will change curtains. Also that cute little baby has the cutest expression I have ever seen. She is too cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your talents.
Sallie Gayle
Just curious, how much are those charm packs?? my local quilting store has them for 7.50 for...I think 36 squares. Is that pretty good or not??
ReplyDeletelove your work!
ashby family,
ReplyDeletecharm packs vary in price depending on where you buy them. $7.50 for 36 sounds pretty typical, i think.

I love your Darla stash! I'm madly in love with Tanya's new Darla. It wants to come to my house too. I don't know if the Fat Quarter Shop is the next best thing after sliced toast... or if it's the nail in my checkbook coffin!
ReplyDeleteDang that's a lot of yardage you go at JoAnn's! Did you need a forklift to get your purchase to the car?
I totally agree that it's best not to quantify yardages, unless you're sorting piles of value. I don't like having to explain that those adorable two yards of something don't have a purpose yet!
