quilt blocks-11" unfinishedthis time we are collaborating to make an auction quilt for our boys' school.
original inspiration quilt
here.
many thanks to
marie' for providing me with the measurements for the large scale blocks.
i have a feeling we are going to have a hard time letting this one go.
Any chance you can share the measurements. The only pattern I have makes a 5" block and that is too small for me...LOL
ReplyDeleteLove the colors....
Love it! The colors are great. I'm getting an acrylic template from Jodi (Simply This and That) to use on charm squares! I'm so excited.
ReplyDeleteWow I looked at the inspiration quilt, and it said it was all made by hand! Amazing to me. Thanks for all the great stash ideas!
ReplyDeleteholy crap. excuse my language. :) The inspiration quilt is beautiful, and this is going to be great. you are like a fountain of inspiration for me, both in yourself and your links to others.
ReplyDeletewow!! this is going to be so lovely!! thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat is going to be gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove it - especially the colors.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! Is it very difficult to cut perfectly and then line up? or is their a secret to cutting those angles so nicely? I can't wait to see the finished project!
ReplyDeletei LOVE whirlygiggles. i'm quilting mine now. this is going to raise a bundle!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen this pattern before, but never in the larger scale. That makes it more do-able for me, any chance you can share the measurements. Love the greens of this quilt, can't wait to see it done.
ReplyDeleteSure! No problem. I want to start a pink and orange one soon.
ReplyDeleteI've been a silent reader of your blog for a while now - it is fabulous! I'm wondering about the quilt-a-longs...any plans to do another one soon?
ReplyDeleteI can already tell I am going to love this! Beautiful, I'm going to have to look for a pattern or something...
ReplyDeleteWill you share those measurements for the blocks?
ReplyDeleteToo bad I'm not the Heather that you are doing this with. Maybe I'd get to keep it at my house a while. ;) I love it. I'm also hoping you'll share the measurements.
ReplyDeleteI love your inspiration for this one too!
ReplyDeleteI'd like the measurements also....how big is the block?
ReplyDeleteAs always, your work is beautiful !!
Thanks for sharing with us!
sorry I can't read.......the block is 11" unfinished.....just one of thooooose days!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was reading the tutorial for the original (here), and got to wondering if there wasn't an easier way. I'm a real newbie to the quilting world, but I've been experimenting with a few blocks and it struck me as unnecessarily fussy to cut each piece individually, manually adding the seam allowance.
ReplyDeleteDo you think you could piece and cut these like the way some people do half-triangles by sewing two squares together? Say, for a 4" finished block, to cut two 4.5"x5.5" rectangles, put right-sides together, draw the diagonal line, and sew 1/4" on each side of that line before cutting them apart on the line?
I hope I'm describing that adequately enough. Your blog is a great, happy inspiration. Thanks for sharing your creative energy!
It's going to be stunning! I love the various green fabrics, can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteoooh, i like these!
ReplyDeleteoh i love those greens.
ReplyDelete:D
can't wait to see how this one turns out.
Love green! that shape works well! can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteI have actually made this pattern before and really love it! Nice colors that you picked out, it is sure to be a hit.
ReplyDeleteThese look fantastic, I cant wait to see it all come together. Are you able to share your measurements etc. for this block size?
ReplyDeleteIt will be wonderful! I'm making my 2nd quilt for my kids auction this year and last year I almost cried when I was out-bid! This year I'm bringing more cash!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Dionne
i love that pattern. really easy once you "get it". love the colors too.
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks. I am making this quilt right now too. It is so fun. Did you find that your blocks where off like 1/4"? Mine were.
ReplyDeletethat is beautiful... i have been wanting to make one of these for a long time....i can not wait to see what it turns into
ReplyDeleteThese squares are awesome. I love the shapes the pieces create. Yea to you and Heather!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun project! I too love the fabrics your using :) I would have a hard time parting with it!
ReplyDeleteOooooowwwwww. I like these scrappy cartwheels, what looks like a simple, somewhat easier to piece block, but with great interest for the grand color opportunities. Definitely one I'd like to keep at hand should I make it through my first lap quilt adventure to more!
ReplyDeleteI love your choice of colors! You are so busy making quilts, by chance do you work outside the home? Not that you can't do this when you work, my mother did, made clothes, coats, etc for 8 kids, too. Worked full time, at one point owned a restaurant, too. But dang, you sure do make a lot of quilts.
ReplyDeletequbie,
ReplyDeleteyes, my blocks are off a bit-maybe about 1/8". so i just trim them at the end to square them up.

Very cute!! I love the paisley fabric. I have the same, but in pink and green. This quilt is going to look fabulous. I have finally decided to do an "amanda jean" and make my backs as pretty as my fronts. I am working on my last baby quilt (there must be something in the water!) and did a large strip of different fabrics like you do often.
ReplyDeleteClaire
**I'll let you know when I post it!
Cute blocks. What a cool pattern! I love the paisley fabric.
ReplyDeletevery cute! I've been wanting to make one of these pinwheel blocks for a while now :)
ReplyDeleteThis pattern is next on my "to make" list. I'm making it out of charm squares. Can't wait to see yours finished!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. The green and white looks spectacular.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern. It is on my list of to do's. I really like the color scheme you chose as well. Looking forward to seeing the progress on this one.

Check it out!
I love this quilt...have you shared the measurements anywhere? I know others have asked too. Thanks for a great blog!
ReplyDeleteYou've got to stop making such beautiful designs!
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be very pretty. Nice, neutral colors.
ReplyDeleteI know I've said it before, but it's very kind of you (and Heather) to make quilts to donate. Very kind.
wow, just found your blog and looks like i'll be adding it to my blog reader list since it's awesome! i just started quilting and can't wait to have my first one finished!!
ReplyDeleteOh, me too, me too! I guess I need to stop reading your blog. Every day I see something else to add to my future project list. I also just happened upon Jacquie's blog and saw her version of this quilt on her flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22833158@N05/2495010430/
ReplyDeleteSo fun!
Anna
I loved this quilt the minute I saw it (a year and a half ago!)... so much so I made one like it myself for my baby boy. I can't wait to see how yours turns out! I didn't make mine one patch style like the inspiration quilt though (cause i'm too lazy)... I used mine by making squares and then cutting! Amy
ReplyDeleteIsn't it hard to let any of them go? They're all so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYou're an inspiration! I bought all of the fabric I need to make a quilt, but couldn't decide what design I wanted. This is it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of your pictures and tutorials. They really help those out there like me who have just started quilting.
That cartwheels quilt was my first inspiration to quilt, I think I saw it on on CRAFT.
ReplyDeleteThis greeny version looks like it'll be great!
I just finished a version of Twisted Sisters - all in Batiks and it's finished at the quilters and I'm going to pick it up. I love the larger block size!
ReplyDeleteLove these blocks!!
