flea market fancy 2

Boy, it's been awhile since I finished a pink quilt. I've been slacking!!!

I love the pink line of flea market fancy fabric, and I had several large pieces of it in my stash. The only problem is that they don't match many of my other pink fabrics. Weird, I know! So I put all these pretties into one quilt. There is a little bit of Heather Bailey's Freshcut fabric and an Alexander Henry print in the mix, too.
I'm fairly happy with the results, although looking at the photos of the quilt, I see that I should have used more contrasting fabrics.
I love how the muslin crinkles after it's washed.

I used a bias stripe fabric from Moda to bind it. The print is on the diagonal, so you can cut the strips salvage to salvage, but still get the fancy looking diagonal stripes. It's perfect for binding.

For the back, I cut 11" squares and joined them into a strip, then used muslin for the rest. I love a pieced back. The nice thing about this one is it came together quickly. I liked using the large blocks a lot.
All the materials for this quilt came from my stash. That being said, I'm hoping that I can actually notice a dent in the stash sometime soon.

Lovely pinks. That Flea Market Fancy quilt pattern is great, I'd love to try it sometime.

I'm about to try stippling a quilt. I'm very nervous, I've only done in the ditch or other various straight lines.

  20. I'm beginning to think that your stash must be the size of a large quilt shop. I do like your quilts though and wish I had your energy!

    Happy Stitching...Ann :)

  22. With as many quilts as you make, I'd think that you'd have a dent in the stash very soon! My DIL called me this weekend and said "Mommy (that's what she calls me LOL) I went to that Crazy Mom site and ... She IS Crazy!" Thanks for all the great inspiration you provide. My DIL is a beginning quilter and I think you're going to be very instrumental in getting her hooked!!!

  49. I thought of you today as I was looking through my photos for something pink to post in a week of color project I'm participating in. I thought, "If only I were Amanda Jean. I'd have tons of pink fabric and quilts to shoot!" While I'm not a huge fan of the color, I love what you do with it!

  51. Looks wonderful! I have enjoyed visiting your blog and getting some inspiration. I have vowed this year to dig into my stash to quilt. My hubby was helping me rearrange my Craft Studio the other day and he said "more creating & less buying is needed up here" I guess that is a HINT!

  57. I don't suppose your sweet husband could do a longer video of you stippling??
I hate to seem ungrateful - I'm not; I SO appreciate all of your tutorials & help. BUT I am having trouble with my stippling looking nice & I thought, maybe, if I could watch you a bit longer (4-5 minutes, instead of 1-2) maybe I could get a better handle on it....

thanks so much for all you share! As usual, it's a lovely quilt!!!

Question: what size are the blocks. They look rather large. I am working on a similar quilt -- inspired by you and have cut 3 1/2 inch strips for the blocks. The finished blocks will then be 9". I was wondering if that is what you did so I have an idea how mine will look.

    ReplyDelete
  78. What a lovely quilt! The binding is perfect for it. The pinks make me feel like spring.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I love it and the fact that it's fairly monochromatic. Also, I'm in binding envy, currently making my own bias binding with non-bias fabric - such tedious work!

  91. PINK! I love it! It's hard to believe pink was once my least favorite color. When we purchased our current home the previous owner had installed pink carpet in the entire thing and it took me YEARS to get rid of it, one room at a time. Now I find myself looking for ways to add pink back into the mix. Who'd have thunk it? :D

  98. I read somewhere that you think a good lap size quilt is 60" x 72". Is that the measurement of the top before quilting? or finished quilt? Is that taking into account "shrinkage"? How much do you add to a top for shrinkage?
Thank you! Glad to see you back.
