We went to visit my sister this weekend. It was great to get away for a few days. We made a quick (to me, not to my husband) trip to Gruber's. I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. This is what I came out with. After a mere hour. There are 10,000+ bolts. Oh, the choices!
Notice the absence of (primarily) pink fabric?
It was intentional.
My stash doesn't need any more of it.

I love the white lilies on green... Oh but they are all beautiful! Only an hour?! I think if I went in to a place with that many bolt I would be totally unable to choose.....it would take me days!!
Love your selections! It will be fun to watch them become something even more beautiful. I would get lost in a place that huge! And I would have to go alone, or with a quilting buddy.
Beautiful green fabric. To shop for an hour in that big store....that must have been very hard not to go over your budget.

Great choices.

Oh so Yummy! The retro fabric is very groovy-thats my favorite one (second from the left). You are one talented girl and I really love your blog!

I know that feeling...I usually end up spending more than I would if I had more time to decide. You made wonderful choices though!!
My zig-zag 1930's fabric was from Gruber's at the Chicago quilt show! So were the batik jelly rolls!
I loved their booth, it made me soooo want to visit the store! You got some good stuff! I'm jealous!
OoOhh like those fabrics....
Lovely choices! My stash has gotten out of control and I am busy at work dreaming of destashing projects...
Great choices, I love the green and white in the first row the most.
I folded my stash over the weekend. Stefan said to me, "Now remind me why do you have so much fabric?"
They are great!I love the third one in from the left. The limey green with all different colored flowery circles.
you have such a good eye for colour and design! I love all your choices :)
Wow! That is some green goodness right there!
Lovely stuff! An hour is certainly not long enough! LOL
Just found your blog and love it. I will be coming back to visit and hope you will visit my blog. I am a quilter and would love to hook up with more quilter blogs if you know of any. Thanks.
im loving the fabric second right at the top! its so cool!
Lucky You! A trip to Gruber's! I only get to salivate over what it must be like - I always visit on the Fab Shop Hop, but have never been to the shop (of course I only live 2,000 miles away). Great selections Amanda! It almost looks like you have an eye for spring and it isn't even winter! Glad you had fun! Cheers!
Great choices!!! Nothing like a quilt shop to rejuvinate :0)
Wow, 10,000 bolts and you managed to spend only an hour in there? I would have to tell my husband to go enjoy the day and I would go wild.
Love your choice of colors, and from what I can see, you don't buy by the yardage but just a bit of this, and just a bit of that. I like that. That's how I like to fill 2 shelves of my stash. That way there is always a little something to add pizzazz to anything.
And you are so right. I just looked at my stash and there really is a lot of pink. Must do something about that.
Have fun with all your yummy fabrics.
~~Fran...:c)
Oh wow, these fabrics are really great! I like the one with green and blue dots... And the flower-prints... And the groovy-retro one... ;-) I can't wait to see what you are going to do with them...
Have a nice day,
Pedi
Oh how fun! It is so exciting to get some great new fabrics and begin the vision of what they may become! I love your choices!
Beautiful fabrics.
yes...NO MORE PINK....we even had our little GD saying "No More Pink"
Love shopping for new fabric and you picked some pretty ones!
I have a question: What is the typical amount of fabric you purchase when not buying for a particular quilt? It seems that I never have enough for a backing. I end up piecing the back which isnt always what wanted.
shannon,
I buy fat quarters and half yards mostly. that way I can buy more variety. often times I go to the store and look for the yardage for the back after the quilt top is finished.
10,000 bolts - how do you choose?
Oh my goodness! You picked some beauties. So you're on a pink diet? ;o) Wonder how long you can hold out... LOL
And to think, I almost went to Gruber's on Saturday. I decided to try and be frugal and went to JoAnn's instead. Still spent too much money, lol.
10,000 bolts sounds like quilting heaven! Love the choices you made!
it looks like your green is going to start giving your pink a run for the money soon! nice choices! :)
Love your choices. Many remind me of Free Spirit fabrics. I always love their fun, retro fabrics.
Congratulations on not buying pink fabric. I don't think Iwould have been able to resist.
me? i would have to buy the pink to balance out the green...
I love, love those prints!! I can't wait to see what you are going to do with them! I understand the need to buy pink...
Oh, baby! Top row, far right... so perfect! I love the blues and greens.
Hey Amanda Jean! I love your color choices. Maybe, in your free time(HA)could you write about how you pick your colors? I've read the Ringle/Kerr books. I've noticed on my quilts,I just use fabric from 1 collection. While they are pretty, they dont really 'sing' I would love to hear your thoughts on matching, color wheel and how you decide what goes into your stash then onto a quilt. Thanks for sharing your quilts and life with us! Libby
10,000 you say? I must work in a trip to this place, too.
How did you narrow it down to just those 10? Oh, the agony!
They are lovely prints. For some reason I'm into blue lately and I'm not a blue person!
oh, i love that green sis boom!
These are more like my favorite stash colors! Like them.
cute! I think you definitely need some more green in your stash : ) It's my favorite color :)
Love your Fabrics great colours.
Hugs Mary.
GRUBERS! Where do you live??? I grew up 30 miles from there. (aren't you in WISC?) that was quite a drive!) Worked in St, Cloud, SEARS in high school. oh and they have that awesome antiques store next to gruber's, where I pretty much furnished my cabin from! Great prices! Fabulous fabric store.
LOve that rich green square!
Amazing that you could leave the store without any pink.
