my daughter started carrying her baby around...
and...AND....she using the few doll quilts we have to keep her baby warm.
oh. my. goodness.....be still my heart.
I started sewing another one on the double.
I expect our doll quilt stack to triple in the next week.
Somebody is going to be busy, busy. Look at the little Patchwork Creation you have already started. Cute. Cute.

I just bought two ($5) baby dolls for my 15M twin daughters, because they like to carry them around and hug them (sometimes)...but mostly so I have an excuse to make tiny clothes and quilts for them...and of course a stroller blanket, hahahaha!

So, so cute! I have fond memories of those days with my own daughter. Grand-daughter too, who was "inspired" by her newborn baby brother (born when she was 20 months old). She watched everything her mama was doing while holding him. So sweet! Enjoy these times.....the years pass by SO quickly.

You are so lucky! My daughter hardly ever played with her dolls, and when she finally did, she was helping her friend deliver a baby. I had to discourage that, and the dolls have been in the toy box since.

Carter actually had his own doll when he was a toddler. My mother had one at her house and he couldn't part with it. She gave it to him. He loved that thing to pieces. Literally.
I am planning (LOL) to make Spenser a doll quilt for Christmas to go along with a little wooden doll bed that I bought from Ikea in January. Yes, I plan ahead. And then procrastinate like crazy.

ReplyDeleteMy kids like to make quilts for their Webkinz. I let them each pick out two fat quarters from JoAnn's (or the quilt shop) and the binding from my stash. They help sandwich it with a bit of leftover batting and then free motion quilt it.
I must say they are much braver with their choices than I am sometimes!
Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Oh lucky you.... My girl doesn't play with her baby; she dresses up all of her animals and dinosaurs with the baby clothes though... On occasion I dress up the baby doll because she looks all lonely and naked! Cute little patchwork you started!

ReplyDeleteWhere did you get your daughter's baby. It looks just like the one my daughter (25 yrs old now) had and now my granddaughter plays with it. Granddaughter #2 is old enough for a doll and we can't find like we want.

ReplyDeleteOne of my granddaughters used to use wash cloths for doll blankets...that was until I went to visit last year. She asked me to make some blankets for her babies. This year it was a pillow, a dress, a doll with a matching dress, and a little bag...Can't wait to see what she'll want the next time I visit;)

I am VERY new to quilting, but I would love to do more (especially with a machine). How do you do your finishing stitches (keep the batting in place)? Do you free hand it with your machine or is there a special setting your machine has? I'm hoping you can help me.

I am super excited about making all the accessories - mattress and sheet, pillow and pillow case, and especially the baby doll quilt! She is just turning one next week, but does love to hold her babies.

That is too cute. My 2 year old plays with her baby dolls non stop. I have pondered making a doll quilt for her. Along with a diaper for the baby...cause she pretends to change her dolls diapers :)
ReplyDeleteOh how precious! I made lots of doll clothes (mostly Barbie clothes) for my girls years ago. Wish I had known how to do quilts for them. Poor little girls had to use baby blankets worn from use by themselves when they were babies! : )
ReplyDeleteAww... The Monster insists on using her baby sister's blankie for her dolls. Of course, her babies have the same name as her sister. I started crying yesterday when she decided her dolly was hungry and needed mommy milk, then she pulled up her shirt to feed her...

ReplyDeleteI struggle every year to find a gift for my niece, who is 9 this year. The only things I know she loves: pink, flowers and American Girl dolls, so I made her a doll quilt.
I'm so pleased with the way it is coming along. I used Moda's May Pole charms squares in a Roman Square pattern. Thank you for giving me such great ideas and the confidence to do a doll quilt. Yours are just so sweet that I couldn't resist.
I love your blog and read it everyday as part of my morning coffee routine....
