Thanks in part to my son being sick and home from school yesterday (and thus lots of movie watching together) and partly due to my husband working all day (he got home after 9pm), I was able to finish the candy corn quilt.
I. LOVE. IT.
Since my quilt holders are at school today, I had to get creative for the photo shoot. I wiped clean my rain gutters and used binder clips and clothespins to hang the quilt. I really need a clothesline.
I pieced the binding so it would match each colored section, otherwise there is no way I would use white binding-that's just looking for trouble.
Exact piecing of the binding was a new challenge for me...
and it came out better than expected.
I quilted the orange section in orange thread, the white and the yellow sections in white thread.
I adore the polka dot fabric that I used for the back.
I even have the label on. So it's really done.
Many, many thanks to Lera, who originally inspired me to make this quilt and for all the cheering me on she did along the way. Thanks friend.
I love your fabrics - this is quickly becoming one of my favorite sites!
ReplyDeleteI. LOVE. IT. TOO!

ReplyDeleteDarling!
ReplyDeleteMy sister is crocheting her kids candy corn hats. I told her to send me a picture so I can post it.
I just love the quilt! Beautiful finish! The rain gutter worked well, clothesline would definitely be better.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH! IT IS GREAT!
ReplyDeleteI just love it!
It's lovely. The perfectly pieced binding is amazing! And I love the polkadot back too.
ReplyDeleteDid you have to get on the ladder to hang the quilt up there? Sounds dangerous!
Love it!!! The first thing that came to mind when you said rain gutters was that you had to get on the roof. Do be careful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea. Think about this. Cut the center out as a triangle and flip the two side and sew them back on. Hmmm....I might have to try this.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely gorgeous! Such a fun twist on a halloween quilt.

It's a beauty! When you free motion, do you start in the center?
ReplyDeleteDo you do sections or go all the way across and back?
What a great idea on the binding. It turned out so cute!

ReplyDeleteTop tip for when your helpers are at school...Get some trouser hangers...you know the ones with the pincers and use those on the top of your quilt ...then hang you quilt from a curtain rod...or guttering to take your picture. I like the hangers with the swivel hooks so that I can turn them perpendicular to the hanger...you can just about see the ones I use on this quilt on this post http://janeweston.blogspot.com/2008/10/gift-for-teacher.html
I love the quilt, too! You've got me thinking candy corn all the time!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt!

ReplyDeletei wonder what your neighbors are thinking as you climb up a ladder (i assume a ladder was involved) clip a gorgeous quilt to your gutters, climb down and take pictures. are you the crazy neighborhood quilt lady? i think my neighbors think i'm nuts taking my quilts to the park across the street to photograph them.
ReplyDeletewhat we do for our quilts!! i love this...it's great seeing more pics of it.

ReplyDeleteYour Candy Corn quilt gave me a great idea for my little candy corn lover's birthday in December! I'm making her a Candy Corn Quilt to go into her very first "own" room, which is named the Sunshine room. I bought the fabrics today and can't wait to get this Dorothy costume done so I can get started!
