yellow
On Sunday, while I was home from church with my sick daughter, I started to sort my fabric scraps by color. I finished sorting yesterday. There are a lot of scraps.
So I thought I would make a series of mono-chromatic quilts.
Yes, I am hardcore.
Yellow was one of the smallest heaps of scraps so I started there. I had a scrap of batting left over that was about a baby size, so that determined the size of this quilt.
I was nervous how it would turn out, as I am with every quilt, but I do like it. I can imagine how pretty it will be when it is washed and dried and all crumply. As of now, just the top is finished.
Just so you know, things aren't all rosy here, even though I've been doing a lot of quilting. My daughter is sick with a bad cold, so she doesn't sleep well. Therefore neither do I. And she is whiny. It's been so stinkin' cold here for a week and it's supposed to be -15 tonight. I haven't been out in a loooooong time. I am going stir crazy. At least this weekend it is supposed to warm up. And we do have plenty of quilts to keep us warm. :)
Very striking! That's a great idea to sort the scraps and make monochromatic quilts. I'll have to remember that one.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain btw I have a whiny cabin fever child myself. I dont mind the snow but the freezing cold I cant take much longer.
My goodness how you amaze me!
ReplyDeleteYellow is my very favorite. I am glad you started with it.
Hope your little one is better soon so you can both rest.
Oh I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very pretty and interesting quilt. I love what you are doing with fabric. You certainly are inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteok so i realize this is just the top, but my goodness you are a machine with all your pretty things!
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side, your sewing machine works!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea. We're doing the "daddy left this morning now let's all get sick" dance here.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!! Like that's a shock. You do such a great job!! Very inspiring. I had to work today so I didn't get to sew but they did let me knit since they had nothing for me to do. So not all was a loss. Hey I think my husband needs to pay me at home to knit or sew. :):)
ReplyDeleteSew pretty!!! Hope the cabin fever abates soon. We are sick of being hot here and are longing for the cool of winter. Of course, we don't do cold like you do. We don't even know what minus anything is!
ReplyDeleteI have nothing to say. I am stunned into silence and can't wait for the pink one...
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! Can spring be far behind when bright, cheery quilts are materializing in your posts every day?!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the yellow quilt! I think it's time to get away from my computer and into my sewing room, I'm always so inspired here!
ReplyDeleteI like yellows and this makes a really attractive quilt top. I like the idea of doing a scrappy monochromatic one. I'm glad you shared it.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the monochromatic quilts! This one is gorgeous, of course. I love the design you did too!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the sick little person and being trapped in the house! YIKES. We have 2 little people with colds here so we had a "jammie" day.
Hope it all lets up soon!!
Ooooooo - that's a really beautiful one! I love the yellow monochromatic idea. I don't have much yellow in my stash, but I will have to see to it eventually to make one of those! My son has also been sick with a nasty cold - for over a week! I'm tired of it for sure, and I know he is tired of seeing me come at him with a kleenex! Ha ha! Em
ReplyDeleteI really like this quilt. Very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI don't have sick kids, but we have the cold weather here in Montana too. At least there is beautiful snow to go along with the cold for now. I really get depressed when everything is brown and gray for three months!
Hope your kiddos feel better soon.
Lovely quilt top as usual. This reminds me of my 70's childhood. Good memories.
ReplyDeleteThe sick has been through my kids, lingering with me, and just knocked down my husband. I feel your pain. Even I am whining at myself!
You are being SO PRODUCTIVE!!! I'm envious! I'm at home with a 3 and 5 yo. We just moved from Arizona to Wyoming... so we're learning ALL ABOUT the cold and I'm in a hurry to make some quilts, but, I seem to spend more time making other little projects AND working on my Quilt Pattern Design than actual quilt tops. I love the Monochromatic Idea... Yellow is seldom done that way.
ReplyDeleteYou may find them good backgrounds for applique??? Hmmmm....
Sorting scraps really makes it easier to use them! Have you ever peeked at www.QuiltVille.com? She has a whole scrap method/system.
Enjoying you're beautiful work.
:D
What a great idea....hope your daughter is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI love it - of course. I wish I had some of your creativity. I hope your daughter gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteYvonne
A series of monochramatic quilts, why not! You are really a stash buster, and you must have had some stashes! I hope your little girl will feel better soon and for some quality time for the crazy mom!
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt!! Great use of your scraps. I hope your daughter feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea! I love the first one - all those gorgeous yellowy tones - yum. You are an inspiration always!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I'm sorry little A is sick and you are cooped up in the house. I sure hope this cold weather leaves us soon. It has been 64 degrees in the drive up where I have had to work every day for the last week. Friday I wore two long sleeved shirts and a sweater, tights, pants and two pairs of socks and I was still frozen by the time I got home. UGH. I hope things get better at your house, soon, (and no one else gets the crud, either).
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow quilt. I am still trying to figure out this scrap piecing thing. I am thinking maybe I need to sort by some sort of groupings, too. I gave myself a goal of finishing all the tops that I have already started before I bought any more fabric, unless I absolutely needed it to finish the top of the quilt. We'll see how that goes. I already know I need some white. LOL
I think it's gorgeous. Like a burst of sunshine!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks wonderful! I hope your daughter feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteStay warm! Why can't winter just be over already:)
Sorry to hear that your daughter is sick. Hope she's feeling better soon and that you both can get a good night's sleep!
ReplyDeleteAmandajean, you are a wonder! Even when you're dealing with a sick little one and crappy cold weather, your creativity can't be stopped. This is a lovely quilt. I like your monochromatic idea for hitting the stash. Can't wait to see the next colour you tackle.
Take care and keep warm.
OHHH it came out great. It looks so soothing too. I also like the quilt you showed before this one what a great way to use what you have. Hope your little one is feeling better soon, "moms" usually feel more tired then the sick ones.
ReplyDeleteI adore your monochromatic approach. I tend to dress that way - something about lots of shades of one color is really appealing to me.
ReplyDeleteAnd I admire your honest about things not being rosy all the time, even though you're being productive on the quilt front. Just because you're making beautiful things doesn't mean that everything else is so beautiful, right? I hope your daughter feels better soon so that you can feel better, too!
Your Yellow quilt is lovely. I look forward to seeing what colour you choose next in your series.
ReplyDeleteHope your daughter feels better soon.
Such a great way to use up all the scraps. If only I could be bothered to sort mine into colour piles ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you are all feeling better soon.
Josie

ReplyDeleteawesome. I always love this idea but you're right it seems scary...and like it won't turn out. But I love the look of patchwork. This is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love it -- you sure know how to give a girl ideas on how to use up stash and scraps. hehehe
ReplyDeletejulie
