WIP Wednesday

I started a 3rd version of my bright birch trees quilt. (You can see the first one here, the second one here. The pattern is available here.) I started the first two blocks at two different workshops that I taught in the past year. Rather than leave the blocks languish, I felt the need to turn them into a complete quilt top. The blocks are going to finish at just over 12" square. I love using up my tiniest scraps in this way! As you know, there is NO shortage of scraps at my house.
This time around, I think I'm sticking with a blue/green/gray color scheme. These are some background fabrics that I'm considering adding to the mix. It will be fun to see where this quilt ends up!
I'm also working on knitting another scarf. I haven't made one in awhile and it's a nice change of pace from knitting my sweater. It's a lot more portable than my sweater is at this point, too! The pattern is called the mistake stitch scarf. I cast on 39 stitches on size 7 needles and the yarn is Madelintosh in DK weight. It's been snowing here the past few days, which always gets me in the mood to knit. This a great project to take while I sit in the dentist office, during music lessons, in line at the grocery store.... (I'm only kidding about that last one! I don't think I've knit at the grocery store.... not yet! Haha!)

What project(s) are you working on this week? I'd love to hear about them!

  1. I'm squaring up all En Provence units. I still need to put together 9 blocks and all of the in between blocks, plus the outer borders.Yikes!

  4. Love your trees quilt. I need to make a start on something like this as my scraps are threatening to take over my sewing room

  5. Yes! One of my favourite patterns - it's all those teeny weeny scraps turned into tree trunks that make my heart sing. :o) Mmmm... definitely knitting weather here as well. I have some sock yarn calling my name. ;o)

  9. Your birch tree quilts are some of my favorites. I really should make one! Really enjoy your posts, as well. Snow in Minnesota is much better than the freezing rain, right? I'm impressed with your knitting; I tried it but don't enjoy it much. Wendy at piecefulthoughts@gmail.com

  11. I've been in a finishing mood, which is unusual for me. I've quilted six tops and stitched on the binding, trying to get at least one done a week, and will work on stitching the bindings in the evening and keep at those quilt tops during the day. (A lovely bonus of being retired!) I only have a dozen tops left to go. I probably will lose the urge before they're all done--some of them are really big. I'm going to try machine stitching a binding on the next one. It would be nice to get some of them done more quickly. I LOVE your birch tree pattern, no matter what the colors! It's on my Craftsy wish list.

  12. I knit at the grocery store all. The. Time! Seriously. I never go in without knitting as I never know how the lines will be. Socks are made for times like this.

  13. This week I'm working on several costumes for our club for Beta Convention. So much fun! I'm also getting close to the end of my latest quilt...just the binding left! So it's a good week for me. Hope everyone else if having good sewing week.

  14. Oh that is just gorgeous! I love the original but with the wintery frost feel to this one it's perfect to let the colours really pop - and a colour combination I may well borrow. Wouldn't it be amazing to have seasonal birch trees - orange and golds in the autumn, the original for summer and pastels for spring?!

  17. Love the birch tree quilt with the cooler colors. It's like the "winter" version. :)
Jason got me a KitchenAid mixer for Christmas and I started sewing together 2.5 inch squares to make a scrappy cover for it. Not done yet, but hopefully before the 3 day weekend is out.
