Thanks to my younger two kiddos, who played together quite nicely on Saturday, my epic quilt top is finished! I think it will work out just fine and dandy on my bed! Now, to figure out what kind of backing to make for this huge quilt....it measures approximately 110" x 99". (!!!!) The block measurements can be found in this post, and the construction methods can be found in this post, (although I pressed the seams open on this one).
The fabrics are from various Denyse Schmidt lines, including Hope Valley, Chicopee, Ansonia, Shelburne Falls, Hadley, Florence, and a few prints from her lines at JoAnn's.
I haven't said it in awhile, and I can not say it enough. Thank you for stopping by, reading and taking the time to comment on my blog. It means so much!
Happy Monday to you!
The quilt top is so very happy!
ReplyDeleteI DO like that quilt top!!
ReplyDeleteLovely finish! it’s going to be fabulous! Will you quilt it yourself (if so, are you crazy? hehe) or send it out? Have you thought of what quilting pattern you might like? Again, beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteCathy,
DeleteYes! I plan to quilt it myself. I'm looking forward to it, actually. That's the crazy part! Ha!
AJ
It is just stunning!! Good for you...and your arms will get a workout when you quilt it!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic quilt!!! so cheery and bright!
ReplyDeletewow tht's v cool and speedy too!
ReplyDeleteI really like your quilt. It is nice to have one that is large enough
ReplyDeleteto completely cover a bed.
So fun and bright. Your bed makes a terrific frame for it.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is very pretty! Could you explain what you mean by "epic" quilt? You are a big inspiration to me!
ReplyDeleteElin,
DeleteI used all kinds of my hoarded, precious stash...thus the name. :)

I love how this turned out. cannot wait to see it quilted. I meant to comment on your ticker tape tiles mini quilt the other day. I have made a bunch of ticker tape minis, each one in a different colorway. They have been sitting in a drawer for a few years. You inspired me to get them out and hang them together above the fireplace. I love the arrangement. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI like this quilt top so much. I love reading your blog! =)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Love it. This is helping me to rethink a huge HST square WIP I'm not 'feeling' right now. I may cut it up, add more color, sew in hour glass squares, and see if it turns out like (nowhere near as great as, though) this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
so fantastic!!! i think i'd like to do this with chicopee!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how you decide to quilt it.
It's gorgeous! May it keep you warm for years to come.
ReplyDeleteOh it looks absolutely amazing!! And huge!
ReplyDeleteI think your fans would agree that stopping by is a great pleasure. So inspiring. Thank you so much for all the time you take to share with others. Sometimes seeing what you make is enough to get my projects off the ground....
ReplyDeleteSusan
I would really enjoy doing a slightly smaller version of this quilt! It looks rather vintage!
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy looking quilt top!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great! Good job!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking up your binding tutorial again for my son's quilt. I can't believe I've gotten this far with it. 😊
It's beautiful! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI finished a 110 x 90 king quilt a few months ago. The only fabric I even considered was the 108 wide width fabric. Having one large piece was so much easier than having to piece anything that big. The basting and quilting was much easier to do, too. I love your quilt. Those are some BIG blocks.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting on your blog! I always look forward to read and see what you have been up to!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!
So fun and EPIC is just the right word for this quilt. I have been stressing about a kingsize quilt for our bed but a pattern like this makes it seem doable. Hm...now I am thinking about piles of Tula and cute hidden animal faces. Thanks for the inspiration as always!
ReplyDeleteIt's stunning and I'm in awe! The hubby's been on me to make a quilt for our bed but I'm procrastinating as much as I can.
ReplyDeleteThe Epic quilt is very pretty. Love your blog. Paula in KY
ReplyDeleteOh boy, our guild's stash buster top is your block. It's great to see your glorious quilt top. I am inspired to play!

ReplyDeleteLove it!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely really this is a beaut! oh wait there is a wrinkle there on the corner...better take care of that! :) j.k.
ReplyDeleteYou are the best!
I don't often comment, but gotta let you know that quilt top is STINKIN' COOL!!!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! I also loved your comment about DS fabrics looking "ugly-ish" but when put all together they just look wonderful - spot on!! I think a top that big deserves 108" backing.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Good luck with quilting.
ReplyDeleteLove this so much!!!! I hope to have my epic quilt top finished this evening. A queen size...can you believe it????
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It's so bright and cheerful. I will have to share this with my sister, it is perfectly her style.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the binding on my own epic quilt - a queen sized quilt that I started working on over two years ago - I know it was 2014 because I watched the Winter Olympics while trimming and pressing half-square triangles! It is right now taking its first trip through the washing machine and should be on our bed tonight.
What a fabulous, fun, bright and cheerful quilt! You did a fabulous job with it, and all your hard work is rewarded!!!
ReplyDeleteFor sure, that's a quilt you will enjoy using on your bed when it is quilted. It's very pretty! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteLove your big quilt - and I love reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before - but the highlight of my weekend is to sit down quietly, and catch up with you and everyone else on your Friday Finishes blog. Occasionally, I get to put a finish up too!
Thanks for being so generous with your time, your hints, and showing us your wonderful work.
Jenny from New Zealand
will you adopt me and make one for me!
ReplyDeleteseriously -- it's freeking awesome!
What a gorgeous quilt! It IS a big one, but then - it's really nice to have one big enough to totally cover a bed, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt top is beautiful! Can't wait to see it quilted and what you choose for binding.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors! It's a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful
ReplyDeleteWow, that was fast. It looks great!
ReplyDeleteLooks fab!!
ReplyDeleteThis makes my heart sing! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteSimple design, totally awesome results!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt. I love the vibrant colours. Looks beautiful on your bed
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt Amanda. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. I have used your construction method for making hour glass blocks. That was really helpful.
ReplyDeletebeautiful. A real inspiration
ReplyDeleteIt may be epic for sure, but doesn't it have such a warm charm about it! Great job and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks great. For something that is going to be used constantly, I use an LL Bean flannel top sheet as a backing. Beautiful heavy material that will last. The flannel helps to stop the quilt from sliding all over the place.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be any good for a quilt you're putting in a show but it's fabulous for a family quilt.
It's beautiful! When I saw the size, I was wondering if you were going to quilt it! Can't wait to see what design you choose!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. It reminds me how well her prints go together.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful quilt. Love it.
ReplyDeleteAnother BEAUTIFUL project!! In my opinion, try to make a backing that you can "flip" and use the other side! Perhaps small flying geese (of the same fabric from the top) in small rows & lots of "solid" space. I can see it now....keep up the fabulous inspirations! ; )
ReplyDeleteWow! Wow! Wow!
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt and love your blog:)
ReplyDeleteAmanda Jean, it's so cool to see the Epic Quilt finish!
ReplyDeleteWow that must have been a bit of wrangling at 110".
Think about seaglass or aqua tone-on-tone for the backing.
Oh my! I love this quilt top even more when it's on your bed. I'm very interested in seeing how you quilt this whopper!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Thank you for giving us inspiration on how to include a sample of every fabric in our stash. How large are the blocks?
ReplyDeleteOh joy!! I am so happy to see your quilt top in its happy place.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, I love it! Hugs,
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeeeoooosooo. Looks fantastic on your bed. Advice: I have made a couple of large quilts for our beds and batting is key. Do not choose cotton, bamboo etc. as once it is quilted it weighs a ton and is like sleeping under a slab on concrete. So the next one I used a poly batting mid weight for warmth and if not over quilted looks fantastic and gives depth and dimension to the fabric and quilting as well as being supper light and warm when sleeping under it. Only wish I had known that for the first one.
ReplyDeleteCheers. L
What a fabulous quilt. I have only been quilting about five years and when I started I took a My First Quilt Class at a LQS. The teacher stressed using quilting fabrics at first due to quality, etc. Later I learned that some "quilting fabric" designers had lines at JoAnn's. Do you find the quality is the same and those produced for LQSs? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTypical of a fabric hoarder, I still have the very first layer cake that I ever bought, bought just before I met you for the first time. I have been thinking I would finally cut it up into the same pattern you have used here, I would have to do some sashing in mine. Seeing your quilt is a sign that I have made a good decision, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI really like this quilt. It just looks pretty ad bright, just what you need to brighten up a space. I can't believe how much you get done. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful quilt in every detail Amanda Jean! I love the colros and the large size of the blocks. Looks fabulous on your bed!
ReplyDeleteLooks great AJ. Perfect for your bed!
ReplyDeleteWowzer, Amanda Jean! I look at my own king bed and know I will NEVER make a quilt for it ;) Great job in every way!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt top is lovely, can't wait to see the quilt all put together and quilted.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!
ReplyDeleteWell done you, a fabulous finish; very inspiring
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt-- so lively and lovely!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks brilliant!
ReplyDelete:)
love love love the fabrics!! Cant wait to see how you quilt it!! Good luck tackling that big beautiful beast!!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt! I have some Denise Schmidt fabrics from Joann's that I have been collecting. I think that this is the perfect way to use them, do you mind if I use your idea?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't really 'see' the size until I saw the finish photo! Very fun, exciting, colorful! Beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! You are inspiring me to make one for our king size bed. I am eager to see what you do for the quilting.
ReplyDeleteThe randomness of colors is really striking! Good luck quilting that big monster.
ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely finish--you are obviously NOT angle-challenged--this is one BIG quilt...I love the way it looks on the bed...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDelete110" x 99"???? It is epic!!! It's also epic because it's so beautiful. I can see why you said in an earlier post these are your favorite fabrics. And I understand why you'd want to use them in a simpler pattern. They are beautiful but too much would be, well, too much. You've made a wise decision (as usual) and put together a stunning quilt (also as usual). Can't wait to see it all quilted up!
ReplyDeleteI love that, wish I was that good at making them... Maybe one day!

ReplyDeleteAmanda, You are welcome!!!! I check your blog a few times a week. It is the first one on my bookmarks. I rarely leave a comment, but I always enjoy what you post and learn a ton too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring♥☺
Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery, very pretty! Thank you for your inspirations. My niece is going to France with Denise in June. Wish I could do the same.
ReplyDeleteWow that really is epic!! I love her prints so much and this showcases them beautifully!
ReplyDeleteIf I lived closer, and we were friends, I'd sleepover and roll that quilt into my suitcase! LOVE it that much!
ReplyDeleteok, kidding. kind of.
Great quilt! I would love to make a quilt that size but in big pinwheels. I've seen them done before, and I love the look.
ReplyDeleteAny way you could please oh please give fabric amounts needed for that king sized beauty and how many blocks up and down!?!
ReplyDeleteSwooooon
It looks great! So nice to have color in the bedroom, don't you think? Good luck with the quilting.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I just started one for my son's queen size bed. I'm interested to see how you quilt yours. As always, thanks for your inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYou do beautiful work. This piece really adds color and life to the room. Shared!!!
