an epic thrift store day

I had a bunch of errands to run today (along with everyone else in the country!) and one of the fun stops was the thrift store. Man, I cleaned up today!!!
First up, this funky, but super fun rug. I paid 79 cents for it! It is so fabulously homemade! I thought I would put it in my kitchen, but it's a little small for that, so it will either end up in one of my bathrooms or else by the side of my bed.
I love, love, LOVE the color scheme. I think I need to build a quilt around this color palette! It's so good!
This shelf was obviously homemade in someone's garage.....and I love that it's not quite symmetrical. :) I've been on the lookout for something tall and skinny with storage for my sewing room. This is just the ticket!
I found a board in my garage (already cut to the perfect size) and I covered it to use as an ironing board. I only paid $11.99 for the shelf and the rest of the materials were things that I had on hand. The best part? I got the project done within a few hours after I got home. Hurray! Oh, and my husband approves of it, so THAT'S good, too! Ha!
I covered the top with the tomato red cross stitch print from my good neighbors fabric line. I kind of love it! I purposely chose a darker color to cover it with so hopefully it will wear well and last for a long time.
And the last deal of the day....this quilt is hand made, tied and it is in really good condition. I paid $7.99 for it. I certainly don't NEED another quilt, (are you laughing with me yet?) but for that price I just couldn't leave it there!!! I love it so much!

When you add it all up, I spent less than $23 total! I'm thrilled!

This is my favorite week of the year...and thanksgiving is definitely my favorite holiday. For those of you in the States, Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you have a wonderful, blessed day! xo

I particularly like the colour scheme of the outermost strip of that rag rug, and also the grey/pink/lilac strip. Love how you find inspiration everywhere. Happy Thanksgiving; I wish you and your family a safe, peaceful and contented holiday, with best wishes from Down Under.

  14. All great buys. I am avoiding op shops for a while. They are full of too much bargainy goodness. (Yes, I know bargainy is not a real word!)

  15. Wow - what amazing finds!! The 79c braided rug has to be the bargain of the century. I love the wooden unit and how you have repurposed it - it's made think of the wasted space under my ironing board which just so happens to need replacing because it's broken!!!!

  17. I would have cried "what a lovely find" for any one of those, but all together? You definitely were on a winner there. Love the shelf. You'd better watch it carefully, otherwise a little elf might come by and steal it.. LOL

  19. I have recently purchased an old entertainment center for three bucks at an auction. No one uses them anymore because a flat screen tv won't fit in it. So my Hubble added some shelves to it and I use use it to store some of my stash. Now that was my bargain of the year. Plus we bought another one for the kitchen and one for the bedroom. The most we paid was $5!

  29. My Grandma made those braided rag rugs. One of my fondest childhood memories is sitting next to her on the sofa in the evening as she braided "rags" which were feed sacks. Those rugs were scattered throughout her house, except for the living room which was the only room with carpeting. The rest were hardwood floors. And your cabinet find is perfect, even in its asymmetry. Nice that you likely have bolts of your fabric collection on hand, for any spur-of-the-moment sewing need. The colors and prints you came up with are fabulous! I just used the white background cross-stitched ones inside some little pouches. Perfect. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with your family!

  34. that truly was an "epic" thrift store day!! Well done on all your finds. The only other adjustment I'd make, is to put casters on your new ironing station. I will be visiting my thrift store over the weekend too, but with a load to donate.

  42. what great bargains you found, the mat would be perfect for me at the kitchen sink as the tiles are so cold to stand on. The shelf unit is ideal and a bonus that you now have a great ironing surface. Such a shame that someone did not want the quilt but it has now got a home where it will be well loved.

  43. Great use of that cabinet!

I find so many amazing remnants and patchwork pieces and incorporate them into my quilts.
