patchwork makes me happy

I love turning this....
...into this.
Doesn't it scream summer? Isn't it so happy?
Oh, I just love it!
The squares are cut 4 1/2" so they finish at 4".
It's a lovely lap size. 60" x 72". My favorite.
Several scraps are from the lovely miss Anna of Noodlehead, (thanks Anna!) like this lovely patch of pearl bracelets. It's the only red square in the whole quilt, but I had to include it anyway. It's so good!
Several of the scraps are from my own collection, like this long hoarded Heather Ross camper van fabric. Isn't that guy on the van so cute? I love the grey bikes, too! So many fun fabrics in one quilt top. I think this is going to be a favorite for a very long time!

  10. Yes!! So pretty, and I agree- have found I prefer to make quilts from scraps. And dinner from leftovers. So cheerful for spring/summer, you've motivated me to go "dig". ;)

  15. Another fan of simple patchwork! This is a lovely quilt.

Amanda Jean, would you mind explaining how you organize a quilt like this? ie. what your different stacks mean and how you assemble them? I have never figured out a great way to transfer what I have on my design wall to the sewing machine and back again and have it consistently be what I set out to do!

  26. I just had to do a "red square hunt" to find the pearls in the big quilt. I felt like a kid again.

Months ago you inspired me to make pieced quilt (with parallelograms). I love it because I can do a little at a time on the couch next to my hubby at night - or take it on vacation.

  27. Oh I can see the seahorse fabric you used for the fabric bucket that is the poster item for your shop! Despite all the wonderful quilt designs out there, this will always be my favourite.

  41. It's lovely! So nice to be able to follow your progress on the blog. It ALMOST makes up for the fact that you aren't present at my LQS anymore ;-(.

  42. Love the patchwork! I am also currently making a patchwork quilt for a new nephew (4 and a half inch squares too). What is the best way to piece the squares. I have been chain piecing pairs of blocks and then piecing the pairs to other pairs to make four patches which I'll eventually sew together. Just wondering if this is the best way. Thanks!

  56. I have to agree with everyone. Your scrappy quilts look terrific. But I, too, will ask: What's the secret to your block corners all meeting perfectly? Any chance for a tutorial to reveal your trick(s) for lining up your blocks and getting perfect intersections?
