design wall

Welcome to finish it up Friday! I've got no finish for today....but I did get up my design wall hung up. I'm very excited!
I've been without a design wall for several months (because our house was on the market) and boy did I miss it! It's so wonderful to have it back. I've noticed that I don't really use it for designing exactly, but it's more like a block storage apparatus. I sit and stare at it and let the ideas percolate. It also acts an ever changing wall of artwork. I LOVE it!!!

Making a design wall doesn't have to be a big project at all. I use a king size flannel sheet tacked up on the wall with push pins. Easy peasy...and inexpensive, too! This wall just the right measurement for the sheet. Perfection! It's over half full...which tells me I'd better get busy and get something (anything) finished! :)

How about you? Do you have a finish to share? If so, please link up! Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday! Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. So many cool blocks on your design wall! I am especially loving those thin stacked string blocks on the left and the improv blue and green blocks on the lower right. Can't wait to see what they become!

  9. I love how my design wall adds some color to my room too! I really like those two star blocks at the top, what a cool pattern they'll make when put together!

  10. Your design wall looks great!! I love using a design wall too, usually it's for the actual desgin process, but it also ends up being a convenient block storage.

I just completed hemming 4 pr of jeans short for my son but I don't think I will post about that!!! LOL! Your design wall is awesome. Mine is a flannel backed vinyl that is hung from hooks in the grids of my suspended ceiling. It's just in front of some shelving. No wall space suitably empty/big enough. Glad you're getting back some of the needed items! Hugs, Doreen

  13. No finish for me, but I did get a chance to catch up on your moving posts. Sounds like you are settling in. I'm in my middle of a commission quilt for my sister - a lot of work. No sewing today though, Audrey and Vincent are here and I've got hugs that need giving.

  17. Ok, dumb question, but how do you attach your blocks to the flannel sheet? Safety pins? I'm about to have my first baby and think that my current tactic of leaving my mess all over my studio floor won't mesh well with a crawling baby. Just asking for trouble!

  18. Bethe,

That's not a dumb question at all. The blocks just stick to it....much like a flannel graph. It's really kind of fun! My kids (especially my daughter) love to use it to design too.

    Hope that helps!

  20. My design wall seems to be a storage area like yours too. When it gets too full I need to finish something! But I couldn't be without it, that must have been hard for you for those few months.

  23. LOVE seeing everything on your design wall, and what a great idea for one. I've been wanting to make one with Styrofoam panels but this just sounds so much easier. Thanks so much.

  30. It is so much fun to see your design wall! At the moment I cannot use a permanent one because I don't have a special sewing room but I cannot do without it at all. It makes me happy when I walk in and see all those things. I like those sewing machines! Nice to see your house becoming a home to you and your family.
