it's all just fabric

Welcome to finish it up Friday!
I made this wall hanging because I constantly need the reminder!!!
I usually have such a hard time cutting into fabric-especially making that first cut. I think that's why I am so enamored with scraps. I'd rather use something up than to start with something new. I'm working on it, though, because there is no shortage of fabric in this house. Ha ha ha ha!!!

I finished the binding on this piece just this morning. I love how it turned out!!! The letters are free pieced. Then, to make it more "me", I added the scrappy borders around the words. The aqua was a natural choice for the background. :) I machine quilted it with a 1" diagonal grid. (I LOVE crosshatch quilting!!! My Janome makes it super easy!) I finished it off with a scrappy binding. Why not, right?

I am looking forward to the day (whenever that may be) that I get to hang it in my new studio. What a happy day that will be!

It measures 36" x 42".

Now it's your turn! Do you have a finish to share? If so, please link up. Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!

  7. Ooh I love this! And I feel just like you... I have a few shelves of "untouchables" in my stash. It's silly but I can't seem to help it!

  8. I just adore this. Such a good reminder. I hate making the first cut too, and then wonder WHAT I'm saving it for. Here's hoping you have a new studio ASAP.

  9. oh fun!!! I love it! And yes, I'm trying to get over the fact that I just need to use the fabric that I love!! Crazy stuff! I can't wait to see you hang it in your studio either, maybe I'll get to come visit!

  12. I absolutely love this! Thanks for the reminder!

  13. Do you have any tips for cross hatching so that you don't get puckers where the lines cross? I've tried it using my walking foot, but still have puckers. Thanks!

  15. I finished a Teddy Bear baby quilt for our first great-granddaughter who will make her appearance in August. I am so bad about not posting to my blog. I have taken pictures of it, so now just need to find time to download them and get a post written. The post on the blog will not have that it is for our great-granddaughter. None of my family reads this blog, so I am safe here!

  16. I Love the crosshatching I have a janome horizon..do you? what do you mean when you say your janome makes it easy? I'd like to do crosshatch quilting on a quilt and if my machine makes it easy, I'm game!

  19. Fabulous! I could use this mini as a daily reminder too. ;o) What a pretty way to keep it all in perspective (and use that stash of treasured bits...). Happy weekend!

It is absolutely perfect!! Hang it up now! Even though there isn't an new studio yet. But hopefully that will change soon. I'm sure you all are tired of the commuting routine. And with an improvement in the weather, hopefully the house thing will start to fall into place. Hugs! And have a great weekend!

  24. I love it, Amanda Jean! I need that reminder, too, because I am like you in that I have trouble cutting into yardage. I love the tiny scraps you used for the borders of the words. Thanks for hosting Finish It Up Friday.

  25. This is such a fun wall quilt!!!! Love the aqua background and of course all the scraps. I know exactly how you feel about preferring to use already cut up fabric rather than cutting into new stuff. Having too much fabric is a nice problem to have, isn't it?!

  26. How fun and even more interesting that the word ALL is done with low volume. I can already envision it hanging on the wall in the studio that is waiting to become yours.

  27. Love that saying. I have a problem cutting into my fabric as well.

  31. Oh my goodness - the borders around the words make it look even more sensational! You are so clever. I think I might have to hire you as my consultant when I'm not exactly sure what to do...

  33. Such a cute piece! I, too, have difficulties cutting into new fabric but I have an equally hard time knowing what to do with my scraps. I really enjoy your blog. :)
