My all time favorite scrap size is the 2.5" square. (With ticker tape pieces coming in a close second.) I have a box that is overflowing with pretty squares. Then I have a separate box of ugly squares that I couldn't bear to part with. Now Moda started making candy...which is pretty much cuteness defined. I have several of those cuties from market.

Isn't it a positively addicting quilt?! It's fun seeing all those random fabric playing so nicely with one another! I'm making the same right now... 22 blocks done out of the 49! Can't wait to see how yours comes together!

ReplyDeleteI have a random question, though, and maybe you would have some advice...I recently inherited, from my mother-in-law, a baby quilt that her grandmother made entirely of 2" squares. It's adorably, and the pieced part is in good condition, though the backing/binding (which seem to be one and the same -- I think I've seen a method for that) is a bit worn.
Do you have any idea what kind of care an antique quilt in good condition should get? Or know where to look for more info? I'm guessing that once our little baby, who spurred the gift, is grown a bit older, I won't need the quilt in his room for middle-of-the-night warmth ;) and would likely want to tuck it away somewhere. Thoughts?
Or maybe this is just the age-old question of what to do with any appreciated item that isn't going to be hung/displayed. Attic storage...

I have recently developed an obsession (passion?) for 2 1/2" squares and cut out 900 or so over a weekend, whew. Last week I found a bag of charm squares that I also cut into small squares. All this because 1) I made a granny block and loved it and needed more squares to choose from, and 2) I want to make the checkerboard quilt from your book (LOVE it, by the way). And now this . . . and who knew Moda would be so wonderful as to start selling the mini charms (I just ordered a pack on Etsy)? Thank you Moda! And thank YOU for sharing.
