use what you have or another reason I love my Juki

My son needed a belt, even though I am continually feeding him and his bottomless pit. (Oh, to have his metabolism!)

My husband had a belt that the holes were wearing out, and it was splitting a bit. So he cut it down to youth size, punched new holes with a leather punch and I sewed around the edges. I was afraid that I would break a needle or worse, but my Juki pulled through. It sewed through the belt without a problem. (wow!)

My son loves his new belt, and I love that we reused something we already had.

What is your favorite repurposed project/idea?

wow, that's great...do you have an industrial machine? I want one, that bag sewing is so hard on the regular ones, I burn mine out every couple of years!

  3. I have two that are similar. Knitting with tied up pieces of scrap fabric or selvedge and tying those leftover pieces of floss together pairing with a yarn and knitting them together. Leftover scraps get to be turned into something beautiful!

  9. Way to kick with your Juki! The resized belt looks great.

My favourite repurpose has been making a cellphone case for my husband using leather from an old handbag and clear vinyl from the container new sheets are packaged in.

  10. I used some beaded trim from an old skirt on my new kitchen curtain's seam. I think it looks great.

I just read a lot of your blog, and I love your quilts! I really like that you stick to one complimentary colours within your quilts. Often times the workmanship is great, but people pair bright yellow with purple and red. Ick.

  11. My favourite remodel and recyle is my most recent. An old cardigan i had seen too many autumns, so i unpicked it and remodelled it into a mini-jumper for my wee dog.

OK.... so I dont have kids yet....

    :) love the belt

The belt looks great! I love to buy wool sweaters at thrift stores and felt them. My plan is to make a throw for my family room. But so far I've used them to make totes and a pin cushion. I also made a tote from a linen tank top that I didn't wear anymore. I loved the fabric, so it makes me happy that I still have it around.

  13. I will have to keep that in mind (that your machine can sew through leather) if I ever find a nice belt that is just too long.

  14. You can sew through leather like that? I'm jealous. Mine sounds like it's going to die when I try to sew through corduroy.

  15. You have a great machine, I see. Mine would laugh in my face if I tried a project like that. I really like that your recent posts have been about reusing things - a responsible and creative way to approach crafting!

  16. I think I need one of those. The Juki, not the belt. That is amazing! I don't have any repurposing that can hold a candle to this.
