These two are my favorite ones to use....at least this week! :) I love that they have a firm base (a repurposed tuna can) and that they sit up higher than most pincushions. There is a tutorial here, from a long time ago, if you care to make one of your own.
My pincushion "candy bowl" is full! This makes me super happy!
And one more...I made this little one on retreat this weekend. I found a scrap with my birth year on it and it was centered on the piece of fabric, so I just HAD to make a pincushion out of it. Isn't that the cutest? It's scrap project # 116!
If you are curious to know how I make my pincushions, I basically follow the directions in this tutorial...I just change up the patchwork on the top panel. I like to fill my smaller pincushions with crushed walnut shells, which I purchase in large quantities from the pet store. (They are sold as lizard litter). If the pincushions are over 5" or 6" I fill them with poly fiberfill, so they don't get too heavy. I hope that helps to answer any questions you may have!
Happy Monday to you!
The armchair one is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love the tuna can pincushions, one of my peeves with some pincushions is when the pincushion is too thin and the pins poke through and stab you, the tuna can would prevent that quite nicely.
ReplyDeleteJust wonderful!!! I have been trying to find crushed walnut shells over here in the UK since reading your tutorial - all the people who work in the pet stores think I am crazy!!
ReplyDeleteI love the little tiny dresden!
ReplyDeleteLove all your pincushions. I have the tuna can tutorial printed out and ready to make, hopefully after all my Christmas sewing is done.
ReplyDeletegreat idea for a tuna can - I am curious as to what you are going to do with all of them!
ReplyDeletePeople can be so creative. And to think that I just have one!
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing your posts with a pincushion in there so seeing this superb collection is a bonus!
ReplyDeleteI think I may hop along to your tutorial for the "tuna" pincushion!
Goodness! I thought I had a pincushion problem!
ReplyDeleteI bought my giant sack of walnut shells from a specialist snake/reptile pet shop. Going there was an experience in itself.
Why do I foresee a larger "candy bowl" in your future? :) Thanks to you, I have actually made a few pincushions, but they drive me batty to use...I am too accustomed to my faithful "Grabbit" magnetic thingy :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pear pincushion!
ReplyDeleteA bowl of pin cushions...how awesome is that. I need to give your tutorial a try
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty! I love the mini Dresden. Actually ... who am I kidding? I love them all.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wonderful, a girl can never have too many pincushions. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic collection of pincushions! Thanks for the tutorial on the tuna can pincushion, I may have to make some chicken salad this weekend ( Not a big tuna fan) so I can give this tutorial a try.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's alotta pincushions.
ReplyDeleteOh I like the tuna can pin cushion. I am going over to check out the directions. Thanks, Debbie
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see your pin cushions it makes me want my own bowl full of them even though I rarely use one. I use a magnetic bowl instead. Happy Thanksgiving
ReplyDeleteI just love your pincushions. I made a couple of the tuna fish style pincushions when your tutorial came out. These are also my favorites. I have used a small peanut butter container. I picked the height by using DH's Dremel tool to trim the container where I wanted.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great show of your pincushions.
Just Another Quilter
I could really sit down to a bowl of your pincushions and fill up on the eye candy inside.
ReplyDeleteI love pincushions and yours are so full of scrappy goodness, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy grandma crocheted pin cushions just like the lavender one you have right in the middle of the picture. I wish I had one of those now. Problem was I was only 8 years old or so, and I had no need for one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super pincushion photo!
ReplyDeletesuch cute pincushions and a stellar day at the thrift too!
ReplyDeleteOh, so extremely cute! Lovely tiny pillows! Writers from pinkelstar.com loved them so much!
